I sent 13 coins to be graded. All came back MS 64 to 65. The next 12 coins back cleaned. All coins were from granddads collection. I was disappointed to say the least. So I have decided to collect chocolate candy instead of coins. Your videos have been a great help teaching me the hobby. I'll keep watching your videos Thanks.
Great example to show new people interested in collecting coins about luster very intelligent and you have a lot of common sense West!!! Great show Daniel!!!
Absolutely genius in regards to the approximation of the subject representation. My little neice and nephew are getting to the age where quite a few younger people (kids) are introduced to the wide and wonderful world of "collecting." This "analogy" is a perfect presentation to facilitate the explaination of an element of coin grading criteria which can seem at first to be a confusing ordeal. The old saying: "Takes a day to 'learn' but a lifetime to 'master," is perhaps an appropriate quip to sum up the size of it.

@officialoverlander Yes, mint state coins will show the full lustre how they came from the mint, and as you move towards VF, the lustre gets weaker and weaker. You'll notice on real coins in XF, there's still lustre around the rim usually and maybe faint traces of it in the fields. You'll see it when you rotate it around under a light. Near the edge still has some of that cartwheel effect flipping around, but it's pretty much gone from the middle.
Thanks for making the video Daniel! I wish I could have spaced the grades out better, but you still get the idea of what lustre looks like, and how it gets diminished through wear. Happy new year!
Exciting news! The inclusion of Rose number [273] beautifully symbolizes our collaborative efforts in this creative garden at CoinEra. Let's continue nurturing this shared space together! 🌹🌷🌼 Thank you for being an integral part of it! 😊💖
That was a great video got a little fun out of it 😊 and a totally different perspective of grading coins. Kudos to the author of that. Thanks for showing.
Thanks Daniel. A truly unique way to show wear / grades on coins by Westin. Once chocolate was mentioned, I had to stop the video and grab a piece I had left over from Christmas. I graded it as a MS70 cause it hit the spot. Have a Safe and Blessed New New Year.
Great concept, one day i used the pro mode on my Samsung for light reflexions out the blue. The camera gave me lines in colour even on the scratches not seen with my eyes. Gave like grid lines. Very interesting.
Thank you! I thought, "okay, this is either genius or stupid. Let's see what people think!" I'm glad that is seems most people see this as a good visual tool for understanding this effect.
Happy New Year DM ! Very interesting post. Will watch more than once as I have picked up a number of coins over the years i think are in gradeable condition that would benefit. May have to rethink that.... Thx !! Happy New Year to all you coin folks out there !
No one can predict the future ... but I would love to hear your opinion about the current Gold prices, & if you think you would invest big in Gold right now. The USA Dollar is basically worthless, & it is only going to get worse in the future for the dollar. If you had the cash in hand, sitting in some saving account, would you invest in 5 pounds of Gold right now ? Thanks
You thinking from the wrong angle here, the USD isn't worthless, it's just lost a lot of buying power. Also I would not put all my money in gold or any precious metal. I would do research and learn what the wealthy are putting their money in, because that's why they're rich. People who make money investing are not caught up in the worth of the dollar, they're just trying to make as much USD as possible and let everyone else worry.

Brilliant (pun intended) explanation of luster! 🎉 Best I’ve seen to date. And that chocolate sure looks scrumptious 🍫

It’s actually a pretty interesting way of showing luster in the flow lines. 👍
He made a good example for using chocolate, even as it got more and more damaged it still had some luster to it.

That's an exceptionally clever was to explain luster/lustre. Thank you for sharing this and happy new year!
That was an excellent demonstration

Good morning Daniel. Happy New Year! It's been a pleasure being one of your viewers, I learned so much. Thank you!🎉🎇🎆🎊
What a cool demonstration!
Absolutely a genius analogy

Me too, lol 😅😂
Morgans are some of the most beautiful coins the US Mint has produced. That's why I really like them.
Great, I'll never look at my chocolates the same way ever again lol
That's a great way to show wear. I wonder what happens when it's totally bad shape quick and easy to depose of.
You eat it😅
I can go as low as Good 4 for my chocolate consumption.
I tried to go one lower and crushed it. It got eaten instantly.

Thanks for sharing very cool
Really enjoyed that, Danile
(Intentionally spelled Daniel that way to give it the "British" spelling).

That's pretty cool!
Love me some cartwheel 😍
Great visual!! Out of the ordinary approach is what sticks in our mind!! Creative group blessing the coin help community 🩷
Happy new year to all
Very informative 👍 a little disappointed at the end tho should have Melted the Chocolate somewhat for being damaged 😂😂😂
So. To grade my chocolate coins do I send them to PCGS or Hershey?
That was fun!
WESTIN, THIS WAS BRILLIANT.
Thank you! I thought, "okay, this is either genius or stupid. Let's see what people think!"
I'm glad that is seems most people see this as a good visual tool for understanding this effect.
Very different way of looking at a coin I put my coin on a turntable microscope above it and i see 8 different images of a single part of that coin.
This video makin me hungry!.
Actually I thought this was a great reference to damage on coins versus chocolate.
HAPPY NEW YEAR , DANIEL.
Thank you for taking the time to help keep coin collecting alive and interesting God bless
Thanks Daniel. Keep up the good work.
Another great video to help people understand 😮
❤ great idea, I like it.

Very novel approach ! Never would have thought of it.
Happy new year , all the best for the year ahead 🎉
Fun video, thank God silver and gold aren’t as soft as chocolate. Happy New Year Daniel
For years I wished the mint would release a solid gold peace dollar and a solid gold Morgan dollar. Maybe one day....
Should have done it for 2021 anniversary
Would be nice just as long as they're not auctioned off in any amount.
@linneisenhower2571 2028 will be the 150th anniversary of the morgan. I hope they do something special
Different video but it helps the newcomers just starting out
I think chocolate tastes the same either way. I collect 00s and 01 rare/key/collected dates 😂.. the placeholders
Now I want to go buy chocolates. And another Morgan. 🫣
Happy New Year BrUdDeR Daniel Malone @CoinHELPu
