I finally ticked one thing off my Japan bucket list - staying at a traditional Kyo-Machiya (wooden Kyoto townhouse) & I LOVED the experience so much!! 🖤I'm curious, what kind of hotels do you guys want to stay at in Japan?? PS - I've filmed a bunch of new stuff and just gotta get to editing it! So new content coming soon :)
I like this place that you've featured, but am too intimidated by the ryokans, the customs, and proper etiquitte for kaseiki meals. I tend to drag my knuckles, and eat from a trough. 🤣
If you have money and want to experience the traditional ryokan then you should , it’s very expensive but it’s something very Japan culture . I glad I did it and stayed at the onsen Ryokan . Try to do it on quiet season when less booking you will enjoy more .
When I eventually visit Kyoto, a Machiya is definitely right of the top of things I want to do. They always seem so peaceful and this video just made me want to go even more! Sooooo jealous!
What a beautiful place to stay, everything looked so clean and uncluttered, perfect if you want somewhere to just chill and relax. More videos like this please.
This was so gooood Sarah! ✨🥲 I saw Machiya Hotels in other videos before and I love their vibe so much. Thank you for showing us around. Historical, alternative or futuristic hotels - all super interesting!
I would like to stay in a house like that for my next trip to Japan, I didn’t have the chance to go around Kyoto that much last time, although I found a pretty good restaurant. BTW, your so cute Sarah.
During my stay in Kyoto I was fortunate enough to stay at a traditional Japanese home through AirBnB hosted by an older Japanese couple which were amazing hosts; definitely my favorite part was getting lost and exploring the backstreets of Kyoto! I hope to stay at a Kyo-Machiya on my next trip out there, it looks amazing!
Hi Ramón, could you share which Airbnb is that? I'm also wanted to try stay in these traditional home. I found one that was about 250USD per night and was wondering if there are cheaper ones.
@@callasky I believe the hosts have it listed as "House with a garden in a quiet district" it is located in Kyoto-shi, which is a lovely area to go around walking. It might be slightly further away from central Kyoto, but you can catch a bus easily nearby their house. I really recommend it, they were truly nice!
I always enjoy your uploads. Always intelligent and positive comments. Does a stay at a machiya include dinner? (I can see it includes breakfast). I am, too, surprised to see momiji leaves are still green. I wish I could spend a few days at a machiya, especially spending hours on an "engawa" admiring the view of a small garden and its vibes. Looking forward to future uploads!
Thank you so much ☺️ You can order the dinner at an extra cost! (Same as the breakfast) Can now say I highly recommend staying at one while visiting Kyoto! Hope you get the opportunity someday :)
Hello! May I ask how many years you've been learning Japanese and if you have passed the N1 JLPT exam? Also, do you have any tips for someone like me who has only learned Japanese from anime? (I can speak with Japanese people, but when I encounter them in real life, not just on the HelloTalk app, it becomes very difficult to converse as smoothly as I do on the app 😅)
