She said her voice has changed, but he can easyly return to her silver lyric colour, but ... for what? She has not interest with her old lightweight roles anymore. For lucia she is too old, like for Traviata as well, Manon Lescau is strongly destrоy any soprano voice, Norma seemed not very interesting for her,she refused to sing it. She just goes forward

@@elsaschlegel174 I agree with you, but in the case of Norma she just sed that her voice evolved in a difrent direction and insted of norma she went for Tosca at that time.

What I don't get, is why some people criticize the voice/singing? I like it. Maybe someone that has more knowledge about operatic vocal techniques, can be more pedantic about their technique? But they're popular because of the demand. I'd suggest that the people that feel strong about this, promote other great performers, I want to know about them as well!

Well as already stated in the comments the 1951 performance of Aida with Callas and Dominguez as Aida and Amneris respectfully is the best recorded Aida. But Milanov does a great Aida, so does Tebaldi and simionato, barbieri, and stignani are great Amneris’ too!

Joao Aurelio well, Isabel Leonard is a professional singer...so I’m sure she is qualified knowledge-wise, however, the question is somewhat interesting as you can answer it in a very technical manner that no normal person would understand, or you can answer it simply by pointing out the basics. Very open ended, I thought it was good.

Someone should tell the interviewer that the opera is titled Aida not Amneris ...

    • @longliveclassicmusic
      @longliveclassicmusic 5 лет назад +4

Anita was clearly much more open to discussing what Isabelle was asking about. I feel like Anna got somewhat offended early on about the question of difficulty, because she knows full well that she has legions of critics who don't think she should be singing any of the stuff she's singing, and she probably doesn't really know what to say in regards to any of that without risking betraying herself and her vision.
I'm sure Anna wakes up every single day to fight as hard as she can as much as she can with everything in her to study her voice and study her body to make as many improvements and discoveries in these repertoire as she is capable of and goes to bed every single night never completely satisfied. Her career is a complete force of nature, and yet she herself is only human. I can't imagine how big of a burden that is for her to bear.
This is not a daily experience Isabelle as a lyric mezzo singing incredibly lyrical music can really empathize with, nor is it anything Anna could ever put into words. I think for her it was extremely invasive to be asked that almost immediately, and she quickly shut down. I think Anita really sensed that and took over. And I really love that sisterly support!

Anita's take is amazing in the house. During the Act 2 confrontation, her Amneris is clearly moved when Aida begs for pity. And who couldn't be moved by Netrebko's Aida? Both artists offer real complexities to their roles.

      @@Feisenbach
I know, that note is something not written on the partitures.
But I don't think it's tacky, maybe with the other sopranos they've tried and it seems like their necks are being strangled.
But that doesn't happen with Callas.
The E flat is perfect to the "tension" that there was.
Both the choir and the other singers are so perfectly adjusted (I don't know how to explain it). And to finish Callas gives the E flat which makes the whole Aria so exciting. (It is something similar to what happens in the first medea of Callas in 53, in the part of E che? Io son medea ... Oh fosca sonni implacabile dea .... Atre furie volar a me.
The choir adapts perfectly to the tension that Callas emits with his fury.)
And despite the fact that Maria did it as a tribute to the first soprano to give that note, the Mexican Angela peralta, was a beautiful, amazing and perfect Tribute.
. Currently, Saioa Hernández gave a fairly decent flat

I enjoyed the performances of both women, especially Rachvelishvili. Netrebko = petulant diva. As noted in another comment, Anita's English is quite good, and could that be why Netrebko seems aloof and even irritated by Ms. Leonard's question about difficulty of the opera? After that 'dismissal' by Netrebko, Ms. Leonard seemed to focus her questions more towards Anita - I don't blame her. Brava Anita Rachvelishvili !
