- www.icadenza.com: Julia interviews mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick. In this interview, Ms. Zajick talks about her start in opera, her advice for young singers, what we can learn from birds, and gives us a quick lesson in resonance.
Very interesting and knowledgeable artist with an amazing voice. We’ve seen her at the Met many times. The greatest was Amneris in Aida.👏👏
I live this woman... so nice, so relax and so down to earth... but with a big fabulous voice. Brava!
I used to coach with Dolora when I was at the University of Nevada Reno, in the 80s...she's wonderful...I learned a lot from her and Ted Puffer. :)
I love this. Dolora,you are magnificent !
Wonderful singer and great personality. Beautiful and wise interview from the heart. Congratulations to both!!
She’s so fantastic!
Here is the ultimate dream cast for "Norma":
Oroveso - René Pape
Pollione - Jonas Kaufman
Adalgisa - Dolora Zajik
Norma - Sandra Radvanosky
Conductor: Fabio "Toscanini" Luisi
That thing about singers and doctors is sooo true!
Omg, I thought the same thing!
Gee I like this woman an my I pad is vibrating with that wonderfully resonant voice.
She seems such a sweet and nice person... besides intellectual. Brava!
she's right, it's usually higher voices that think they're lower voices and not the other way around. I started thinking I was a bass because i had a strong chest resonance and a solid low E, but after a few months of training, my teacher said I'm definitely a baritone.
ya, I agree with raigekimaru, Ms. Zajick is a soprano singing for mezzo. But she still made a career as mezzo.
I was honored to see Dolora Zajick as Adalgisa at the Met.
I thought I was going to die. It was *that* good!
Dolora Zajik - you are faboo beyond the blue! The most AUTHENTIC SATISFYING mezzo-coloratura since GIULIETTA SIMIONATO. The top notes are like platinum in an African sun, the low notes are the color of shadows in a Rembrandt portrait. Dolora the Infallible - the voice that never quits. PLEASE SING ADALGISA WITH RADVANOSKY and Fabio Luisi. Make it happen. It will be the Norma of the century!!
Good perceptive interview.
My mind is blown.
LOL I love Dolora
More excited than ever to hear her Azucena in two weeks at the Met. What a fascinating woman; imagine if she had a competent interviewer.
that was rude...
Get lost
GRAAAAACIAAAAASSSS!!!!
ahora quiero estudiar máaaas!!!
Is she teaching voice in the USA?
Yes
@@samueljaramillo4221 haha thank you for answering. I met her two years ago in Berlin when she sang at Deutsche Oper. She invited us to come to the states and work with her.
Donna simpaticissima
dying...haha
She has no young dramatic voices.
I'm a big fan of your channel, particularly the "before and after"s. I'm just curious as to which parts of this video you agree with and which parts you disagree with? :)
That's a very grand statement to make. A large voice like hers is easily capable of teaching other large voices how to sing. I would retract that statement because not having heard each and every one of the singers that has studied with her, you're just making assumptions.
knightsattheopera Having a big voice as a singer does not mean you can teach. That is absurd. There were plenty of big voiced singers who produced no great students. Nilsson, Corelli etc. They coached, but never could teach and develop a voice. If Zajick can, which I don't believe she can based on what I saw with the men, then we will see the results. Results show everything. And there is no way I will retract a true statement.
curlyguy92 She says all the right things, but having seen the program and seen how she teaches technically, and also what she said about a specific singer, I don't think the results will be there. I did not hear a single big voice. Nothing beyond lyric. She said some things technically that were just factually incorrect. She doesn't understand the covered voice in men. She thinks they sing high notes in headvoice for example. She advocates spreading the mouth for high notes. Not good. There are many things that I think will limit students. One of the biggest disappointments I had with her program was to see she hired a speech level singing person. That is ridiculous.

Thanks very much for replying. It's much appreciated being a young singer myself :)
Waste of time....
Girl, get rid of the vocal fry! I assume you interview opera singers because you are a singer, so really really get rid of the vocal fry.
