He has a video that I watched not long ago of a actual horder that I think was a scrapper who died and the guy had a house full of stuff like pcs and mother boards and like everything you could think of and he had a massive pile of pcs and everything you would think a e waste scrapper would have and Ben was taking it and it was crazy. He was like I am going to end up like this guy and I was thinking that he could never get that bad. People who hoard are in denial about the fact that they are hoarders and when they typically die there family has to deal with it

32:20 they are just some sort of flat cable to interconnect boards, that you can cut to the number of conductors needed. You find them in vintage electronics where boards are permanently connected, as in calculators to connect the keyboard PCB and the main board. Check it they magnetic or not, might go straight with eiter scrap scteel or insulated wire.

    • @FJL4215
      @FJL4215 5 лет назад +1

Yes, definitely a type of flat cable. I have seen them used in some old consumer electronics devices.

Ben, after about 2004 it was illegal in Australia sell anything that plugged into a power point that DID NOT have the insulators on the nuetral and active pins of the plug. I worked for a power tool company back then and we sold out pallets of chargers for drills etc for cents on the dollar because they didn’t have the new plug and had to be sold before Jan 1st of that year.
My guess is that’s how they ended up with so many 😎

In the future, the one at 54:51 was a serial to console cable used to program cash registers and those Cisco switches you are so fond of. But you made the right choice cutting it up. As the USB to a console is very cheap. Those big AC adapters were likely used for thermal printers for POS applications by NCR, or NEC, or the like.

those blue front plastic things with fuses in may be mains isolation boxes (between street power and building) so they pull the fuse to cut the power to, say, one flat while they change the breaker box for example... or they may be industrial versions for a per machine mains feed isolator. probably not worth keeping imho
good vid tho! interesting to see what you get from a shop clearence! jeezz all those power supplies and the custom made test gear!
btw crazy idea that the box with the round white pvc thing on might be to do with olde crt tv testing to check the tube magnets are working with an external magnet! (probably just ditch all them test equipment bits! they all look home made!)

You said it yourself about using the pre cut wires. I would check out off grid outfitters. Wiring complete off grid systems usually needs many different connections according to space and capacity. Much of it is low voltage where low resistance connections are important. The wire and connectors look like top quality. Australia must have a good share of such businesses.

Round PVC thing is a homemade electromagnet used to securely erase magnetic media, like audio and video cassettes. Thin padding layer is so you can glide the magnet all around the outside of the tape. Saw them at a police department auction, presumably to erase old evidence tapes or something.

32:18 That's a roll of flex connector for use between circuit boards. Cut to needed length. The boards are built as a single flat unit, then snapped apart to mount on the bottom and sides walls of the product box. Flex connectors are very handy for such applications. But no residual value, scrap copper only.

There is a similar shop closing down near me, with a 45 year history. I saw the board with the prices for repair work, $30 USD just for an inspection, and then the parts are extra. When you compare it to current 2019 prices for electronics it's expensive. But they made their money from factory warranty work. Similar shelves of new old stock, but it has no resale value since it's so outdated from the 1980s.

stuff from china, japan etc usually takes 2 months minimum to hit north america when buying on ebay. if you make lots, north american sellers will buy from you to resell from north america because most people don't want to wait 2 months for their stuff to arrive so they are willing to pay a bit of a premium to get their china, japan purchase in under a week from a north american seller. you should still consider listing some of that stuff on ebay especially the adapters.

A thing about those little adapters/transformers - they might be useful for many things, not only for the initial manufacturer's purpose. I often find myself looking for some weird adapter (like 15v AC output or 5.7 DC etc.) and it would be really nice if more people posted them online. The most important thing is not the make, but alternating or direct, voltage output and amp rating. Cheers :)

Hey Ben, I love your videos! Only problem is, I get sucked in and next thing I know, 2-3 hours has passed. 😂
I sure wish I’d live close to you. I’d offer to help with the research on all the different items. Since I’m disabled (multiple neck & back surgeries), I wouldn’t be able to lug heavy stuff around. But for instance, those adapters at the 38:17 mark are used for things like Casio keyboards, arduino boards, and various other small electronics. I’ve seen them range from USD $2.50 to over $7.00 each. So if you can list them for anything in that range plus shipping, you ought to make some nice $$ just for those. Heck, maybe even group them into lots of 5, 10, or even 20!
    ✌🏼 & ❤️ brother!

Removes chips in sockets. The black foam is static proof foam as many chips will get destroyed by static

1:59:58 this looks like it could be a degausser. the speaker holes are probably an alert to let you know its on and an electromagnet in resin in the puck.??
