- Historic Jerome State Park - Mingus Mountains Check out the Historic Jerome State Park located in Jerome Arizona. The museum inside is well done and shows the vast history of this mining town. The ghost stories and views make Jerome a must-see After Jerome's initial peak of popularity and growth, the optimists who came seeking riches quickly turned to desperation and greed. This transition into greed and crime not only led to the “Wickedest Town in the West” nickname but also created the ghosts that haunt the grounds today.

Hey ,Hey, It's Our RVerTV Russ, Yea heading to Jerome State Park. THANKS AGAIN RUSS FOR LETTING US HANG OUT WITH YOU TODAY . TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL.👍
Hi Russ! I am a resident of Prescott for 35 years and have been to Jerome many times. The hotel on the hill used to be the hospital.
On 1 visit to Jerome we stumbled upon a unknown museum 2 doors down from the Spirit Room. We walked in this curio shop and a sign said Museum! Went upstairs and it was the old movie house in the day. Velvet Curtains, seating, old organ, all the old movie and firefighting equipment was on display, and showed a movie on the history of Jerome. Was the highlight of the trip that day and felt like we had hit the Mother Lode with that unexpected find.
Thanks for the shots of downtown Jerome, I went there in the early 1970's and bought a Gibson mandolin at a hippie music shop, still have it. Back then it was hippies and a loose Knotts berry farm feel with staged gun fights and saloons. NICE.
Love Jerome Biggest baddest wildest town in the wild west!!! Brothel on every corner. Bar on every corner. Museum is the original owners house and the hotel he built for miners is privately owned now!!! Had the best virgin Margarita ever in the one restaurant on the main drag!!! And the ride to Prescott on my Goldwing was spectacular!!!
My father in law and his brothers were born in Jerome. They were born in what is now the Jerome Grand Hotel. It was a hospital back in the 30's. My wife made a book about her father and uncles, it is on a table in the hotel lobby. They grew up on the Hogback. Their father and grand father worked for the Little Daisy Mine. His grand father even helped build the Sliding Jail. Wife and I have been there a number of times. The road to Prescott has 168 turns in 8 miles. My wife found a couple pictures in the museum that included her grandfather.
Watching from Quartzsite Arizona
March 22, 2023 thank you for sharing your videos
Thanks for watching!
One of my favs ❤ if your ever get to Jerome eat at the Haunted Hamburger best food and views in town.
Was that hamburger Mary’s….👻
Keep an eye out for the old dodge truck hiding in the wall on the other side of town. Old car guys love that town. visit the old car dealership on the main drag. upstairs/ downstairs with an old car still on the lift. super cool
Love the view but the road to get there gives me chills. Check brakes before going...😳 Thanks Russ!
'love what you're doing.
Jerome is a pretty cool place!
At 25:30, that in not a mine or smelter, it is a sand, gravel and cement company. You can get there via the roundabout at the bottom of the hill below Jerome. Drove out there once just to see what was there. Lots of trucks and cement mixers.
Somewhere around here is a picture of me sitting on the wagon that you parked next to at the museum. If I remember correctly the museum is the Douglas family mansion that was donated to the state.
Cool town, could imagine how busy it was back then. Thanks for the tour around Jerome today. 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Maynard from TOOL owns a wine tasting bar in Jerome.
I drove thru last fall and bought a couple bottles of Caduceus. Very cool town!
My GF and I visited Jerome back in 2005. She drove the infamous Mingus Mountain Road - all 158 curves! Good tour of the town, the area, brings back good memories for me.
We have been there ourselves but watching your respectful and nicely commented video added some views we couldn’t recall,..so your well edited video reminded us… thank you for your awesome video and smiting joy of our fabulous nature and history ! 🙏🏻🇺🇸
There's a ghost town called king mine ghost town..something like that. I really enjoyed that place. Right there in Jerome
Gold king mine...Don Robertson was the proprietor , awesome gent to swap stories with . Sadly he passed a few years back...
21:33 That looks like a copper Arizona license plate in the display cabinet, Russ.
There was an old prospector that owned one of the mines for years! He was famous in town and the area. Crazy cool guy.
For a few years a local VW bus meet up would happen there. I went in ‘98. The best vintage bus run and meetup I’ve ever been on.
Imagine a couple hundred VW buses cruisin those same roads. It was a blast.
I even took video.. gotta find that old tape!
Thanks for this run down memory lane.
Inspiring me to go back soon!
Very cool!
I think this is The Gold King Mine. All sorts of old equipment. There was an enormous diesel engine that he would fire up sometimes. There is a similar engine that ran the powerhouse at Vulture Mine, made by The Union Diesel Engine Co.
went through jerome back in '07 on my way to california. nice to see it again, thank you
In my working days I took a 45 footer coach with 52 passengers on a tour through Jerome AZ ..it was a challenge driving through their. ..🤪😳 safe travels Russ 🥰
Yvonne, back in the early1950s, we rode a Trailways (Greyhound) bus from Flagstaff to Phoenix several times. Looking at the narrow winding roads now, I can't imagine how the driver managed it. I can understand the challenge!
@@MaryB-ps8lg OMG yes I can amagen how the roads were in those days WOW...I wasn't born yet... ..thanks for sharing 😎
Great video as always, Russ! FYI…The museum shows a video of Jerome history narrated by a ghost, which is very entertaining, and I highly recommend to anyone touring the museum. Happy and safe travels! Take care, M
I live in San Francisco, and, in 1989, I did a driving tour of The Grand Canyon and Sedona. A couple of colleagues strongly encouraged me to visit Jerome. What a joy it was! The drive ... actually, around the whole region ... was beautiful. And, the drive to Jerome was, indeed, a little "edgy." It was there that I had the best hamburger of my life. There are a couple of RUclips videos about "Haunter Hamburger," which looks like the place where I ate, sitting on a back deck, overlooking the enormous valley. It was a memorably pleasant day. Thank you for the reminder.
Excellent job Russ! Your video and presentation was outstanding!! I am thankful you were able to explore Clarkdale and Jerome they seem to be right up your alley of interest. The area is an awesome place to live.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for your time ..absolutely gob smacking views ❤️
In 1962 our family when to Jerome, so my dad could race his 1958 Austin Healy.
It was called the Jerome hill climb, at the same time Glen Ford and Henry Fonda were in town filming “The Rounders” I was 10 years old at the time, I was asked to be an extra in the movie, pretty cool!
I returned in 1988 with 14 others on motorcycles, the road was too twisty according to the lady at the gas station, that’s all we needed to hear!
We toured the museum, saw the video from the Jerome hill climb…and there was my dad in the Healy!
Russ thank you for the memory’s.
My grandfather came to the U.S. when he was 16 yrs. old from Croatia. He worked for a short time in the mines in Jerome, but said the work was too hard & dirty.. He went back to Cleveland, Ohio & entered barber school. He then returned to Cottonwood and was the only barber in town for about 40 years. My Dad & one of his brothers moved from Arkansas to Cottonwood when he was 21 years old. He went to get a haircut one day at my Grandfather's barber shop & saw a cute girl inside shining shoes (my Mom) She was 9 years younger than my Dad so he said he stayed around until she was 19 and they got married. My Mom graduated from Clarkdale High SchooI. I was born in Cottonwood and we use to go up to Jerome in the 60's when I was about 10 yrs. old to watch the Jerome Hill climb races, the sides of the road was lined with bales of straw. One of my aunts owned a large home that was built on the side of a cliff & the front was built on wooden support beams that practically hung over the left lane of 89A as you just start to come up the hill into town.
Such a cool little town. Wow.
Always enjoy the videos! Thanks Russ!
Russ, you've gotta go back to Q via the spectacular Yarnell Hill on AZ-89 to Congress
That was so interesting, thanks for sharing Russ.....
If you ever go up US-93, about 12 mi NE of the junction with AZ-71 near Congress, AZ, you'll be in a spectacular Joshua Tree Forest in Arizona!
Great video my grandparents were from Butte Montana where they had the copper mine so this. Back many memories of seeing that thanks Russ
Thank you for take your viewers with you on your journey to these small towns. What you said Jerome was honeycombed with mines. It sort of reminded me of your visit to West Virginia and the coal mines which honeycomb the state. Every once in a while a hole will appear in the road where a mine shaft collapsed. I hope that Jerome doesn't suffer a similar situation. Good videos and narration.
It couldve been a piano.
It couldve been a harpsicord.
The two times Ive been to Jerome the museum was closed so thnx Russ fot the walk thru! 'Course that was in the '80's & '90's no public parking lots way back when.
Yes, Thankyou Mr Russell. My Wife after our divorce, moved to Cottonwood AZ, so I have been thru Jerome many times but only stopped once to find an espresso to wake us up! After watching this video I have more incentive to go there and spend the day. :)
Hay Russ, my kids have a friend that works in a copper mine, in Tucson, copper is making a comeback, he is making good money, it's hard work though.
Thanks for the ride!!! Been here, done. That. Never seen the museum 🖼️ thanks!!!! Safe travels
This town was on a ghost show I believe. Thanks for the tour 🙏
An amazing area and history of Arizona. Fun museum with so much to see and marvel over.
Hi Russ love going for the ride with you ,always looking forward to your next adventure..🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
So ... Jerome still exists and hasn't had the misfortune of becoming a Ghost Town ... Cool ! I went by in 1979 the last time, I should try to go there once again next time I'm in Arizona. "Arizona Highways" magazine had numerous articles on Jerome and its surroundings over the years. Thanks for the wonderful video, as always, Russ. RICHARD
Curiousity question...Is the "Douglas" family part of the MCDonnell-Douglas flight era?
Wow Russ, you're really putting the van to the test on that incline. We can call that hill the torque converter warmer :-)
I love all history and memorials about firefighters. My dad and my brother are both retired firefighters!
WOW!!!!! THX SO MUCH......IS THIS THE DOUGLAS HOME?
Great video! Love these old towns! The scenery also is amazing! Thank you! 👍
Many thanks!
Check it out...
🤙🤙🤙
Another cool ride with Russ
A very unique little town 😎😎😎😎👍👍👍👍
Been in this Valley 25yrs and " never" toured this museum. Isn't that the way it goes! Thanks for sharing this Russ! Been on that train that you shared last video tho. That's a "must do!"
Very cool
This town resembles a community in northwest Arkansas called Eureka Springs. Little Victorian town built on the side of a mountain. Know as "Little Switzerland." Has a history of ghosts in some of the old hotels. You otta check it out.
How about the buildings that are doing
Down the hill.
That's a beautiful drive, great views. Lil scary in the winter with snow, those roads aren't wide, and some places are a long fall if you go over the edge. Your camera is so clear, easy to read the story boards. Those rocks are amazing. Excellent museum. Safe trip home, that was a nice close to home trip. Ty. 🙂👍
Nice little interesting trip and town thanks. Safe Travels
Thanks, you too!
Never heard of any ghost legends, but the hotel looks pretty on that hill. Those house look like 1920s bungalows. Always glad to join you in your travels!❤️
A beautiful place!. Thanks for sharing!
We missed the Jerome museum when we were there, thanks for showing it. We did tour the Jerome Junk yard which was equally interesting!
As Always ~ great video Sir ~ Enjoyed Clarkdale and always love anything about Jerome ~
I’m going up soon ~ ya got me into it !
I’ll give ya ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the big tour from Quartzite and now going on back ! Thanks 4 the ride a long 🌵☀️
We've been to Jerome but some how missed the museum. Thanks for the tour Russ.
As always Russ you do a great job. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
I live in Jerome and enjoy your videos a lot. Can you tell me what drone you are using? Thanks
We drove through there ten or so years ago on the way to California. We pulled two Gold Wings on a trailer. It was a struggle sometimes. Nice video.
Oh wow!
oh my gawsh & the new Cornish Pasties eatin originally by the Miners is Phenomenal❤❤ We accidentally ran into it on our way from the Lot!
film jerome from cottonwood at night it gives the city the illusion of a city floating in the air.
Fun video Russ,My Mom and Dad told me before they passed away that I would really enjoy seeing Jerome. After seeing your video I think they were right. That 3D map was so cool. Its on my bucket list.
The town of Jerome was named after Eugene Jerome, a New York City financier who started the United Verde Copper Company. Eugene Jerome was a cousin of Winston Churchill's mother, Jennie Jerome.
Hi, Russ. Now your in my backyard!
That was a very unique place!
Thank you Russ!
Awesome video
Thanks!
yay jerome! great vid!
If I remember correctly when I was at that State Park in 1993, the three dimensional mine map (the first one shown) indicated that the deepest workings were below sea level !! This would mean that the mine workings are deeper than 5.000 feet. Other sources of information say that the deepest were 4.200, Not quite down to sea level.
Thanks Russ this was awesome
That old building was a miners hospital…I’ve heard the doctor was a bit crazy and did experiments…☠️👀
Merci beaucoup
I'll prolly head up there soon. Thank you for this video of Historic Jerome State Park - Mingus Mountain.
Thanks for the ride along, I checked “Houses for sale in Jerome,Az. I couldn’t afford to live there $250k and up.
Hey Russ!!! ARIZONA WEATHER"!!!
Great video I enjoyed the museum
Thanks for watching
🙋♀️Hello Russ! Fascinating! They are so beautiful. Never seen anything like them. Fell in love with that color blue! Wonderful museum. Nice little town built on a hillside. Rather quiet. There's so much to absorb still in that museum. Awesome! Are you setting the camera up inside a haunted place while staying in the Beast or will you be with the camera? Make sure you get a camera that has hyper smooth stabilization, it doesn't show when your shaking nervously when the apparition appears.😊👍
These videos are always interesting. There's a big chance I'll never see this place in person any time soon 😆. I love old history like this though. $7 well spent! Thanks for the show!
Anyone else who wants really experience something paranormal I suggest The Connor Hotel stayed there and the Grand Connor was much more active and creepier but try to go during the week because it's over a bar
Great Scenery, great views and great weather. 👍
It was!
I love this channel
About five years ago, I drove up those winding roads from the south and it was a bit scary. After that, seeing scary ghosts in Jerome would actually be comforting.
Visited there last October. Neat place.

Jerome a very cute lil town , I live in Kingman haven't been to Jerome yet
That hotel looks like a penitentiary
Haunted third floor hotel now…you can’t go up in there unless your a guest. 👻
@@saythankyou111 to affraid I'll pass
Drove through there last year enroute to Prescott. Not my favorite Arizona road. Traffic was a lil ridiculous that particular day and there was a lot of road construction along the way.
Happy holidays,
Drive safe
👩Hey Russ really enjoy your videos! And love your laugh so much , it's very pleasant to here!
Glad you enjoy it!
When I was a youngster I was told Jerome was a ghost town, so, when I visited the town I expected to SEE GHOSTS! So disappointed........beautiful drive tho
😂👍👀👻
😂👍👀👻
😎 Cool
You could spend A week in Jerome and not see half of it........
Why do you want to go back to where it's getting really hot? Great video!
Jerome is a very cool place 👍 Hey how about this fact. The first J.C Pennies in Az was in Jerome. 🤯
Jerome kinda reminds me of Besbee Arizona
Another big copper mine town. Copper brings gems and minerals like turquoise and campbellite.
17:20 Mark where is the museum wild never been in there yet.
