This is the difference between legit speedrunners and filthy cheaters, the cheaters don't want to put in the effort, while the real speedrunners will carefully analyze everything, even going through the game's code if they have to. The last kind of person you want to try to pull one over on. But a common theme for cheaters seems to be "you guys don't understand, I just played a lot". Which firstly I kind of doubt, because they really do seem to be lazy. Also it's like that guy Todd Rogers, who lied about his time in Dragster, before people analyzed the game's code and found his claimed time was literally impossible.
I am so happy that someone says something about Deva. I was trying my heart out to copy his damage and to get to at least half of his time just to end up squizing my brains out trying to understand why i can`t see his numbers in my gameplay regardless the fact that i identically coppied his build. Not to mention the fact that he never takes tamage at zero HP left arguing with us that it is moxi and after moxie he simply never takes damage because somehow he is too pro unlike all of us. I have over 2000 hours of gameplay and i don`t consider myself as beein a noob , not a pro but still .....The sad part out of this is that cheaters make real players feel bad about trhemeselves maybe even quit the game in thinking that they will never be good enought. Thank you for bringing this out to light!
Basically, Alatreon has a combo of 1-2-3 > The combo couldn't finish unless it uses the 3rd atk // got interrupted. > Lightning rain could only occur in either 1st or 2nd atk, not both. So 2 consecutive rains would only occur in 2nd and 3rd move [ _ - rain - rain ] or a chain of combo [ _ - _ - rain ] - [ rain - _ - _ ] > However, lightning rain couldn't occur in the 3rd atk, so this is literally impossible. > Another way Alatreon could cast lightning rain is with conditioned atk. > In this case, if a hunter grapple on it, it could have a chance to cast lightning rain, which could follow the combo to create 2 consecutive rains. [ grapple - rain ] - [ rain - _- _ ] The catch is that he didn't grapple to satisfy the condition in the vid. Therefore, it must have been modded. A RNG manipulation is increasing the chance of sth that is possible to occur in game. This, on the other hand, could NEVER happen in the game. To call it RNG manipulation and then gaslight other runners is, unironically, manipulative.
I knew this dude back in a discord forever ago and he used to talk shit about TDS all the time. Stole my cluster shield build that became a staple. (I spent forever on the build to find what other people couldnt for a skill to fit in) and then got me banned from that discord for saying i made that build. I didnt know it went this deep.
Not sure if this was mentioned anywhere, but the fix spawn mod that pretty much everyone uses for runs fixes the spawn to A, B, or C (60% / 30% / 10%) spawn points. Within those individual spawns monsters have various starting points that they can start at and have separate paths they can walk once the quest starts. He wanted to commission a mod that would not only lock the initial spawn point, but also control the sub spawn and pathing of the monster. That would be a huge advantage just for the amount of attempts you can get. I've done runs int he past where within the first 12 seconds I would know if I had to abandon the quest just because at a certain point the run is so optimized you have to have a specific sub spawn. As good as this kind of mod would be it's nothing compared to modding movesets which is basically what was done on Alatreon.
Fun fact, modifying the monster AI would still be considered cheating even if he labeled it as a tool assisted run. If you're modifying how the game functions, you're playing a different game than everyone else.
I already knew deva was cheating (it's pretty goddamn obvious when you watch any of his vidos) so the only reason i really ever interacted with his channel is to see funny bugs like Hollow Purple Meowcano didnt know he was that much of a depraved pc master race psychopath that is a lot of crazy stuff in those screenshots 😭
So yeah, no, it is not RNG manipulation. RNG manipulation is working within the confines of the game to affect its code in real-time. For example, doing certain actions to create a memory dump or some cause-and-effect that affects, say, how something else loads to get a consistent result out of it. Altering files of the game is *NOT* RNG manipulation, that's just straight up tampering with the game. Let's take Pokemon as an example. RNG manipulation would be like "if you give certain pokemon these specific moves, arrange them in this specific way in your party, use these specific items, and do some specific actions, it creates a memory overload that is then carried over into random encounter code and can be used to consistently spawn this specific wild pokemon that you need further into the run." That is what RNG manipulation actually is. It's a careful setup of utilizing the way the game works internally to manipulation into a favorable outcome. Also, another point, "tool assisted speedruns" are *NOT* considered as legitimate speedruns. They are used as a proof of concept; special programs that can control elements of the game, such as button presses, to create a hypothetical instance of a speedrun. Nor are they mods, they are not. They are not mods. And modding a game is considered cheating. TASs are really used to either simulate a run or something specific in a run, or are used to help better understand how a game works. For example, in Super Mario Bros, the fastest created TAS speedrun is 4: 54. 032. This isn't a record, nor is it considered a legitimate speedrun. The point of it is "this is the theoretical limit, the game can be played no faster." It is a proof of concept of the perfect run; every button press played to the maximum precision, every movement perfect. Btw, the actual world record is 4: 54. 631, held by Niftski (EDIT: RUclips thought they were timestamps, oops). Another use for a TAS is to determine the possibility of certain moves. In one of the Mario Karts, a TAS was used to discover a "super shortcut" on Rainbow Road which involved sliding in this tiny, tiny strip of road outside of the railing. It was thought to be "TAS only," or in other words, humanly impossible due to the sheer precision in both movement and timing. They were wrong, someone actually did manage to accomplish it. This is what TAS are used for, they are not for actual runs, but merely to show something may be possible (or impossible) in an actual run. It would be cheating if there was any tool assistance during an actual run. And again, in most cases, modding of any kind is also considered cheating. In many cases, for console games, even using emulators isn't allowed due to how a PC could affect how an emulator runs, so runs are only accepted if done on original hardware. Last thing, I love your model, it's so cute! ❤

Normally, all this stuff is in categories. Like any% 100% tas ect. Also, I guess he's not wrong if you're using the direct definition of rng manip, but usually it's a in game mechanic you'reexploiting. Like final fantasy used step counters to determine some rng in games so you can avoid encounters by stepping right. Modding the code of the game with out of game methods is just cheating. Might as well use a Game Genie. It's fine if it's a tas run but don't put that as a any percent or something. But rng can be an issue. I can imagine grinding for hours to get a good run only for it to die in the last 5 minutes because you need a 1/4 rng chance to work and not kill the run.
I was thinking they could add a category for set movelist, would that make sense in MH? Sort of like set seed in Minecraft where the idea is to complete a run in that seed where you know where everything is ahead of time and trying to optimize that. But IDK if DPS is a huge thing in this game and optimizing that with move optimization. Outside of that, though, this is hella cheating and should be called out.
I watch a fking.lot of iDevaste's videos. TBH, I don't know how speed running in MHW works but all his contents is most of the time all about manipulation. Even some of them mentioned "TAS". Deva has 69 records on the Iceborne leaderboard and even though that board is close it shows that he wasn't doing runs purely for entertainment. If they were labeled as TAS then it wouldn't really be a big deal (though the impossible move combo would still be an issue for a TAS).
Fatalis is way easier to cheese than Alatreon. Alatreon is being manipulated a hell lots because it is one of the most complex mechanics in the game. AT Velkhana and Fatalis only hits hard.

Once you get really good at a game and can put in the perfect inputs, the only thing left that can change your outcome is RNG, so it's natural for people to want to control that, since they feel that they deserve a perfect run after putting in the work.
