    I think something to remember, and this isn't strictly a MH thing, is many people have been burned by modern game development. There was one comment in your chat that said: "One game, does not a pattern make." Unfortunately, nowadays, it often does. And even teams that have had really strong reputation before can just burn that bridge at any given moment. So there is a lot of distrust between players and developers/publishers.
    So when people see the next game come out, and it's very different, it's not like that hasn't happened before and driven beloved series into the ground. It has happened to others, it will happen again, so when people saw Rise and how different it is from World, and not realize how the MH pendulum works because, let's be real, that's actually pretty unusual, yeah. Of course they'd take it at face value. People don't want, like, another Halo or something to happen, so people get very defensive.
    So, I think it's important to remember that this isn't just because Rise is different, it's because there's a continuously growing disconnect between players and studio, especially, again, when a new game *can* very much mark a total shift in direction from the studio nowadays.

    • @V2ULTRAKill

      The irony is overall
      World is more different from the entire series as a whole than rise is, at least 3U and Portable 3rd onwards mh
      Rise is a very natural progression from 4th gen and 3U whereas world felt like being thrown all the way back into progressing from Tri or even Dos but modernized

    • @purrodie
      @purrodie  4 месяца назад +2

      The problem is they aren't accounting for the fact that Rise is strictly developed for a portable console, it's a completely different team than the World team and it was made specifically with portable play in mind. THAT's the key difference there, not to assume that Wilds is going to be the same.

    • @OldRedGrizzly
      @OldRedGrizzly 4 месяца назад +1

      @@purrodie Right, because many genuinely didn't know, and didn't think too deeply about the fact it was on the Switch; I mean, No Man's Sky and The Witcher 3 are on the Switch, right? It can sometimes be surprising what it can do, cause I certainly would not expect those games on it.
      So they saw the next entry, didn't know about the mainline-portable pattern, and considering how things often turn out with other companies, it got people really worried.
      Of course, now, we know better in hindsight... or should, anyway. Some people are just always going to be "like that," though, you know? And those people are just being dumb.

    Totally agree that some monster hunter is better than no monster hunter. While I do prefer World over Rise I appreciate both for what they are and both are fun to play in the end. New mechanics are always welcomed as long as they don't out right drastically change the core gameplay of what makes monster hunter so enjoyable.

  • @mattbell888

    I started in rise, and enjoyed it enough to play World. I like both for different reasons. I want wilds to not be too live servicey. Grinding lands, steamworks, weekly quests, login bonuses, and even the anomaly investigation grind all feel yucky to me. I do not want to fight 40 kulu ya kus to fill a progress bar, so I can access content I actually care about. I want fighting monsters to feel like I'm making progress on my build, even if its super late game and I'm just trying to get like the most minor of a percent of an upgrade.
    Grinding for the right decos in world and rolling for good charms in rise are also bleh. I really like the aspect of the Qurious crafting system where you can cut armor skills for decoration slots and it sort of lets you get to a build with lots of nice skills. Getting there and rolling the right skill away for the right deco slot is a bit cringe, but its just like getting monster parts, yknow? You'll get what you want eventually because there's a limited number of things you can see. You can go several hundred hours in world and not see a particular decoration you might need.
    Speaking of getting the right monster parts, melding mantles and gems is slightly weird to me, but World's investigations are hella cool. I'm a little iffy on some skills just being required used/maxed on certain weapons (looking at you, rapid morph and phial switch boost). Or so much power being on skills in general that you need to just have a certain amount of defense / health boosts or attack boost / critical eye to keep pace as monsters get stronger. I like it when there's a lot of comfort afforded, or skills that support a particular playstyle. Bladescale Hone / Status Trigger / Adrenaline rush being cool examples, same with a lot of the interesting or wacky rise skills. Preference options like protective polish / speed sharpening vs handicraft / razor sharp are cool, but it can be hard to balance things with too many required skills. I think Rise did a good job, just worried they trend too hard in the overloading skills department that weapon and armor upgrades don't feel meaningful. World's skills left me a bit to be desired.

    I started with Rise, as a new hunter loved the game and sunbreak. I then tried mhgu, I got through all low rank quests and going to high (switch is broken sadness). I really liked it even if it felt slower than I was used to.
    Then I started mh world. . . I have mixed feelings. I loved the areas and maps, the cutscenes, while sadly unskippable at first viewings, was pretty interesting, at least.
    However, I did not like the weapons and how the combat felt. It felt really slippery to me, at least. I main charge blade and didn't feel as good as mhgu or rise. Also, the weapons to me looked bland in world compared to the others.
    I played mhfu too to see how that game felt compared to the others, and I didn't have much of an issue with it. It was relatively the same experience I had with mhgu.
    Idk something in world just isn't clicking with me, which is a shame. Maybe it's because of all the hype around or something.

      Oh yeah the weapons being bland in World is a common complaint! One of the fun things about MH is the unique weapons especially the silly ones, and World sadly decided to not include those. Here's to hoping Wilds will!

    i prefer the old titles (mhxx/mhgu my fave UwU ), but world and rise are still very good mh games! it's mostly just the community having biases for the first mh game they got really into, and world being the one making mh more popular, a lot of new players from world kinda made the community more noisy in both a positive and negative way. it's okay to have preferences, but for some reason people need to bring down the titles they don't like... like, i too, don't like some mechanics of each title, but that wouldn't make me say (x) mh is ass. ALL OF THEM ARE GOOD

    • @NeowMeow

      Hard disagree. Rise at the end of the day is still a MH game but the fundamental mechanics and fast paced nature of rise made it feel like actual crap to play if you wanted to play in any sized party vs playing solo. The solo monster behavior is EXTREMELY different than the party behavior and the party behavior is just awful. This by far made me just dislike rise as a whole. I love them bringing back different movesets, thats great and the wirebug is fine. But everything else. Is just bad. The monster party behavior. The end game grinds and mechanics. The spirit birds. The tedium of it as a whole and just how much the end game made me want to play the game alone rather than with my friend because you were just better off playing alone in everyway because of how crap its designed. And I hate playing games by myself. I want to play with my friend. The game felt fine playing by myself but playing with my friend pretty much exclusively pissed me off every time and neither us could enjoy ourselves. Rise is just bad. And it sucks. Because we both have played mh a ton beforehand and never really had a bad time with it to this extent. To answer, no, its not a skill issue either, I dont think we failed a hunt a single time. Rise is just overall one of the worst of the series unless you play alone.

      @LimeNoKi lol you thinking the game isn't bad and want to ignore all flaws it has doesn't make it good either. You are in the minority for thinking rise is good. It is far from good. You can enjoy the game and have fun with it but in the end is it still one if the worst designed mh to date and is objectively.... bad. There are a few things that it did right. But it's overshadowed so severely by what it did wrong, that it does not save itself from the awful design choices that it has. Blindly liking something because "oh boy it's monster hunter, I should bend over and take it or else they might not make it anymore" and ignoring any criticisms is the definition of ignorance.

    Have to say that I agree I think both games are great in their unique ways. The idea that one game is bad because it lacks some of the better features of the other one is a poorly thought-out statement that doesn't get that each game is catering to a different audience.
    Not sure why people are so divided truth be told I'm one of the few who genuinely likes both rise and world and actively hopes that wilds will take the best of both games and blends it in a beautiful marriage of concepts and ideas.
    Also just wanna throw this out there I do think we are getting the scout flies again just much more tamed compared to world. Also on the boat that wilds will take place in the new world since I quote the handler "The New world is huge! Who knows what else is out there!?"
    along with the fact that World's map had part of it hidden which implied the part of the new world the game takes place in is only a tiny part of the newly discovered continent. (doesn't make much sense to me for wilds to take place somewhere else canonically speaking)

    Listen, the old MH games controls sucked, that is why MHW and Rise felt easier. I put in thousands of hours into 3U, 4U & G, I also played the first 2 games as well, just not as much(I didn't own a PS2, my friend did and I would rent those games). It was always super aggravating when I would try to dodge or do a move a certain way but the controls wouldn't register properly and it would go the wrong way and I would take a big hit because of it. You would fight the controls more than the monsters half of the time. G felt like an arcadey MH game, it had some fun stuff in it but I never really considered it a true MH game, but it didn't need to be really, as long as the main games kept the MH feel it didn't matter. The fun thing of G was the playing as a palico, put in hundred's of hours doing that. Rise was literally arcade on steroids, a lot of fun, but It was like G to me, and I hated the whole wire bug thing, fun sure, but the idea that a bug goes like a couple feet out and you can just hang there with you body weight and do all of these super weird moves because of it...yea no. And make no mistake, I have put in several hundred hours in Rise, like I said I had a lot of fun in it. People complained out the clutch claw, I thought it was a great idea, but the idea that you had to tenderize a monster in order to do more damage was just stupid, that part can go away and die in a fire! It gave a way for blademasters to shorten the distance to a monster quickly which with all of the hyper movement monsters was really needed, otherwise half of the time you are just trying to get close to the monster just to give it a hit or 2, was aggravating! I actually love the stories games too especially for what they are, I love rpg's, I just wish they would put a breeding aspect into the game, so that all monsters can be viable and not just monsters you get in end game. I do hope they bring back companion's for Wilds, I love that they gave us this in Sunbreak, just wish they did more damage, not a lot, but they do so little it hardly effects the hunt at all, which is why everyone just brings the ones that can buff or heal instead of any of the other companions. I love the SOS thing, so glad they are bringing that back, never have to worry about finding some help in World if you need it, or wait for an hour for someone to come to your lobby, many people have limited play time and can't wait that long, so I never want to go back to that old style, it can die in a fire too!

      Its also because you were severely better off playing solo rather than with a friend. Because the monster behavior of solo vs duo+ is massively different and not fun to play with. Also the sunbreak end game was just overall terrible and incentivized playing alone and is an awful mess. The base game just didnt really have much of an endgame to it but at least it wasnt sunbreaks nonsense. Theres some stuff I do like, like the fine tuning of armor. But the grind stacked on grind stacked on grind. Just got me like... nah.... Also the fact playing with my friend wasnt fun due to the monster behavior and I'd rather play with a friend than solo. Playing with him duo on mhw before they even added in seperate duo scaling was way more fun than the nonsense they have going on in rise. Also lets never have the nonsense of spirit birds or anything even remotely similar to it ever again.

      About inflicted monsters, yes, a new mechanic plus it making sense to grind them is the reason i like them

    • @NeowMeow
      @NeowMeow 4 месяца назад

      @wasabilai9405 they are forced on you because if you don't most monsters simply just one shot you with most attacks. Also there was already reason to explore randomly without some dumb birds to do it and that was gathering materials. Which aren't something you need to do on every single quest so THAT was never forced on you. There is also reason to kill every monster in the game so that argument makes no sense. Every monster killed is killed for an ecological reasoning when it's said to do so. The ecological reasoning for inflicted monsters is "oh no they have rabies so now we have to put them down like old yeller" which is by far a way more lame excuse because now you're killing monsters simply due to another monsters cause and the fact they just randomly explode.... The monsters you track down are not killed because you feel like killing monsters and it's in the lore for it to be done for the sake of the ecosystem and use everything from them when we do.

    I hope this series never goes open world. The sheer size of a map that you would need in order to have the game be open world would be ridiculous. The loading times alone for at least 5 completely different biomes would be insane. That’s not even accounting for transitional areas like going from Tundra to Grasslands to Jungles, or Volcanoes to Swamps to Deserts. Plus I have the personal dislike of open world regardless of the game, I don’t know what it is but whether it is Fallout New Vegas, Xenoblade Chronicles X, or BotW, it’s just never fun for me to play a game where I can go anywhere, except where the game doesn’t want me to go, which I have to learn by trial and error of “will these enemies punch my face in or not here?”
    Me personally as a veteran I just want the old games ported to modern platforms just so I can play with other people and not have to hope that someone else in the United States owns a PSP and a copy of MH Portable- Portable 3rd in 2024.

    I think what complicates this is there isn't a real "portable" version now. I get the switch is both a portable and home console but its not as hindered as a psp or ds version was. Maybe im a weirdo outlier but i never played rise in portable mode. So i get the apprehension from fans when switch could handle a monster hunter title but chooses a streamline version. So whos to say the next monster hunter game wont be super streamlined.

      It's not the graphics that are a hinderance (which were the only hinderance to the psp or ds versions), it's the intention behind a portable console. You don't have the time you do when playing at home, so the purpose of the portable versions is to make the fights faster and easier to do on the go, not necessarily their graphical limitations.
