- Amanda Palmer, best known as the front-woman of the punk cabaret band The Dresden Dolls, just released an album of covers where she re-imagines Radiohead's dour electro-rock with cheery ukulele. She performs "Creep" off her new album, Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele, live in Studio 360. Listen to Kurt's conversation with Amanda Palmer: studio360.org/e....
Saw her yesterday live. She performed this song not yet two metres away from me. No microphones or anything. Just her, her voice, and a ukulele.
I just burst out in tears, it was so powerful.

Its not about the quality of her singing. Its the emotion - she portrays the song perfectly, and her music is honest. She doesn't touch it up with editing like most artists. In her music, she uses her true, pure voice, and I think its very brave of her to do that.
My thoughts exactly. There are performers who are 1000x more polished, thanks to production tricks and stupid auto-tune, but they don't come remotely close to what she brings to her performances.
I have still never heard a better interpretation of this song. Beautiful, just beautiful.
I had no idea she could go that High.
Great cover. Really hoping to see her live over mea's/summer/any chance i get
I love how hard it is for her NOT to swear.
That sustain at 3:14 gave me all the goosebumps.
2:50 It's always a lovely surprise when she hits that high note. What a performer!
I cannot believe the chills her version of this gives me
but paired with this performance ....... wow.
#moved #chills
#inspiration

I can't believe that anyone got such chills from this performance. It's okay, and lot of covers are as good as Radiohead's because Hanke sounds pretty feeble on it. (I don't know much about Radiohead so maybe he doesn't sound feeble most of the time - okay I really should listen to a bit more of them.)
The best version I've heard so far has been the one by Haley Reinhart with Postmodern Jukebox. I think Amanda's interpretation is more in line with Haley's although Haley goes far beyond Amanda.
@@gynack what do you mean "i cant believe anyone got chills from this version"? Music is personal, if someone likes this version better than another it's perfectly okay

Ultimately you're right of course. I'm just saying, perhaps too strongly, that I didna think a lot of her performance, it left me unmoved, and I find it difficult to understand why it affects other people so strongly. Still, as you say, if others find it moving of course it's okay. Great virtuosity, fabulous voice, etc. aren't the whole story - although they can help enormously. Emotion needs to be communicated, and she manages that for some people, even if not for me. I can move on to other music I enjoy more although I must listen to a couple more songs Amanda because I might come across something by her that I could enjoy.
She actually has a very strong voice when she wishes too, apparently you've never heard her perform this anywhere else. She just does it however she feels at the time, just like Radiohead never performed this song the same every time.
she is fcking incredible!
She gets under the skin of the song and tastes its beating heart, like few others have. Bravvvo.
I believe this proves that Amanda Palmer does not need to breathe
i love her madly.
Amanda is my new hero
An angel strumming strings...wow!
One of my favourite ukulele covers ever!!
Pretty much like most Amanda F Palmer performances - INCREDIBLE!!!
Favorite singer+ favorite song = perfection
This is so awesome!!!! I love it even more than the original version!!
I love her little grins after she censors herself.
Aww, I love this performance! Creep is an amazing song and Amanda's version is just marvelous. Radiohead is awesome but I prefer her version. ;)
I love this version of one of my favorite songs from my favorite band! Excellent version!
Great job on this cover. Beautiful, talented and my favorite instrument all in one vid!
did her vocal range get a million times better?? def been practicing really really amazing
she is so inspiring. love her.
fucking lungs man!! wow. been a big fan for a long time, and my jaw nearly dislocated(no seriously!) it is that awesome. jealous too, everyones tried to sing it but she *nailed* it!
MY FAVORITE Amanda Palmer lil ditty!
Beautiful.
This song blows my mind - brilliant.
*Ukulele. @ pinchin: The ukulele was developed when Portuguese immigrants in Hawaii brought their cavaquinhos with them. The Portuguese Cavaquinho was a predecessor to the cuatro.
Wow sings with such emotion
she is amazing, i love her with all my heart
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
I want to dance to this at my wedding
Wanna marry me??? ;o)
amanda palmer is 💜
Awesomeness!!!!!!
Perfect
Great!
Love it!
The artists you just named are the highly over-rated women, Amanda is actually very underrated. You just have your own opinion on what is talent and what is not, I just happen to think your opinion is a very narrow sighted one.
Well Done !!!
wow nice
@dayknowsalchemy They're not tattooed, just drawn.
Radio-ukulele-head -- EPIC WIN !
Yep Now I want to go buy a Ukulele and cover every song I can think of.
amazing...Ô.Ô
damn. she's got good timing.
@hugostiglitz7 tattooed, actually. and yeah, what @ePifJany said.
1:16 -1:19 lol I love that.
The only comparison I have to this cover is Israel "IZ" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole's 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'... both are classics...
...... I want a perfect soul..... exhale.....
This is not an Ukelele it's a CUATRO. Beautiful interpretation
Thom Yorke: approved 👍😉
she performs her ass off
Speaking as a massive fan of Shara Wordern, I think the fact that your definition of "talent" relies on pure technicality might be a warning sign against taking anything you post about talent seriously.
Anyone who can share the strumming pattern to this?
what chords does she play this in?? I have to learn this.
What makes you say that? Looks and sounds like a uke to me.
I will kiss you, if was there... love that song..
worships
prefer this to the original
You can't not like this.
++Vasilis Condoulis
Yes you can. She sings it mostly okay, but when she goes right up to the top of her range she definitely loses it a wee bitty. Maybe a lot of people like myself dislike the sound of a ukelele. A guitar instead would have improved it for me.
The best version you'll hear is by Haley Reinhart singing with Postmodern Jukebox. A bit like Amanda, more passion than Radiohead, and more than Amanda.
21 people are the creepest creeps ever who cannot recognize good singer
It is a ukulele, it's probably a tenor.
@UKISOCIETY Was that a joke? uh
Is her tour sponsor Sharpie? :)
Why though? Why?
aww Censored :(
this one got a nice neck
Why are her eyebrows drawn on?
i like that voice very much, without the instrument may be even better. at least a real guitar.... no??
lovely teeth.
It had everything to be great... and your omission ruined it. it is 'you are so FUCKING special'. That's the song.
Jax von May Because this was on the radio in the US, there are certain restrictions.
You're right, of course. It's just I feel like the transgression is part of the price one has to pay for 'owning' this song (and cause my wife made me stop using that 'language' when playing it....)
if you listen to her album amanda palmer plays radiohead then you here the proper version with the proper words, like others have said this was probably for an audience that wouldnt allow the words
a soft version of this song...interesting
I don't know, I find her a bit creepy.
I wish she was accompanying herself on the guitar. I dislike the rinky-tink sound of the ukelele. It doesn't sound cheery, and if it did it would be inappropriate for the song. This is a good enough version compared to some, but how does anyone think it's remarkable? Being better than Radiohead doesn't make it remarkable. If you want a version that's remarkable, then listen to Haley Reinhart's version with Postmodern Jukebox, sad, anguished, impassioned - it's all there conveyed by real singing. A bit of a shock to the system because we're used to hearing the first part virtually whispered in a ....Ach weel, I'll not go on about it any further. Just listen to Haley Reinhart really make something of the song with her definitive version.
If she hired a lead singer and a few musicians this would rock. What crap.
Way too over stylized...seems to be hiding the fact that she can't sing the song strongly, especially in the higher range. Not digging it.
horrible.
I agree. Horrible.
may I kindly ask why?
An angel strumming strings...wow!
