I´m sure the 200mm f2 is a fantascit lens but I´d say it´s just too short for most wildlife. I actually bought the 100-400mm and have been very happy- it´s seriously sharp even at 400mm and f5,6- unlike the Tamron 150-600mm that I previously used on Canon cameras. Overal, I´ve been very happy with my switch to Fuji- never thought it would replace my Canon FF gear :) Thanks for the review.
I agree. 200mm just doesn't seem to cut it for wildlife photography. I heard that Fuji will be coming out with a 500mm and if so, then I'll grab that lens right away.
Agreed, for sports and action (primarily aviation) as well, an additional 100mm would have made a big difference. I rented the lens twice (I do this with expensive gear before committing to a purchase) and was disappointed with the reach, even with the 1.4 Tele Converter. I have recently purchased the 150-600 5.6/8 Fujinon and despite the relativity slow f/stop, it is doing a spot-on job. If I can find this lens (used) for less than $2k, yeah, I make pick it up. There is a rumored 400mm f/4 possibly in the development stage, we will have to wait and see, I guess.
Makes me want to go buy it right now but I'll have to wait for a longer prime lens such as a 400 or preferably 500 f4😍 For me personally in most cases, 200mm is too short for birds. As you said hopefully Fuji sees the need to add a longer prime lens soon. Thanks for the information and amazing footage mate!
Thanks for the comprehensive review - lots of useful information and stunning footage at the end, really beautiful. I'm also a photographer using Fuji X-T3 and you've completely inspired me to get hold of this lens (then grab my wet weather clothes and head for Richmond Park to try it out).
Can you share any knowledge/facts on pixel peeping comparison in sharpness and contrast at 280 mm between the two? Video comparison not necessary if you haven’t got the time - your word is good enough.
Late to the party but thanks for the review Anthony! For what it's worth I've heard reports the standard 2x converter may work with the 200mm/Xt3. Might be worth giving it a shot in a local shop if you're able!
If they had made the lens hood fastener out of metal it probably would have damaged the lens itself. Make it out of plastic ensures the knob breaks before something expensive like the lens barrel or front element.
Great video review, can you recall where you got your protective cover from, I desperately need one as I shoot in pretty ruff conditions and can't afford to dink this lens.
Benjamin Kanarek it will be amazing for fashion I actually use it on weddings for bride and groom shots also! instagram.com/p/B2b7qicn7az/?igshid=1rtnzx3xqtmli
Anthony, thanks for this helpful review of the 200mm. I'm a 3rd year bird and wildlife enthusiast and I've been tempted to leave Fuji and jump to Sony's A7RIV &.200/600. But after watching both your review and John Armstrong's, I think I'll buy the 200mm and be patient for longer glass. The images on your website are really inspiring.
Hat es Qualität für Nah-Macro-Aufnahmen, per Zwischenring? Ist das in einem Naturpark? Bei uns kommt man den Tieren nie so nah, am Tag gleich überhaupt nicht und selten Vögel hat es auch nicht hier.
Brilliant, thanks. Great to listen to an actual photographer (and not a RUclips reviewer) who owns this lens. Also beautiful footage at the end.

You can't compare rendering colours on this lense and 100-400 and to me its better slightly than 150-600

Amazing shots mate I bought it second hand for shooting personal training session for my business
I'm just wow'ed by this review even though it's the second time I've watched it.
Wow .. That lens is worth its weight in gold. We need to get you more views.
The video at the end is superb👌
Very inspiring the film at the end ofreció the review. With these images you sell the Lens better Than the official videos of Fuji 😎
If the Pearl coating on the lens helps to disapate heat, isn’t putting the covering going to cause heat which could possibly lead to lens distortion

There are other people in the world interested in what this man has to say you know, everything is not for you buddy

Beautiful!!!
Excelent video.
thanks Daniel glad you like it!
For sports I like the 400m 2.8. I guess this with the 1.4 on gets you up there. Pity these never come up second hand!
would be great to have 600mm f4, and build in 1.4x teleconverter, like that nikon lens, maybe in another 5 years that would happen.
Getting mine net week for some of my fashion photography :-)
