    Had no idea about the reasoning for the silver and white lenses of this focal length. Makes perfect sense now.

      Ya, back in the day, if we were shooting an outside game and it was sunny, we would have to throw a towel or jacket over the lens to keep it out of the sun. You can see many pictures of guys with towels over their super telephotos for this exact reason. Nikon guys had it the worst because all their lenses were grey/black. LD/ED glass is very sensitive to heat, although newer technology and lens design makes them more stable.

      Yes, Magnus, I totally agree on the "insane quality" of the XF80mm Macro! It's the sharpest lens I've used in 40 years of photography! (Luckily I don't do sports or wildlife, or I'd be really depressed that I can't afford this awesome lens! :-)

    7:48 Teleconverters are often marketed as 1.4x because that's mathematically closer to reducing the diameter of the entrance pupil for the lens by one stop, instead of two stops reduction with a 2x teleconverter. It's the reverse function of opening a lens from f/2 to f/1.4 to get one extra stop of light, and opening it to f/1 for two stops of light. (1.4 is roughly the square root of 2, and the entrance pupil is measured in terms of area.)

    Reminds me a bit of my old EF 400mm f4 D.O. from my Canon years. I still have that and a 1DX and the 400mm and I am tempted to see what sort of deal/trade I might get on the 1DX and the 400 f4 D.O. in order to acquire this glass.

    • @RomanCanas
      @RomanCanas 6 лет назад

      I am actually thinking to get the canon 400mm F4. I have been shooting for a couple of years with the fuji xf100-400 and there is no other option to upgrade to, this fuji 200mm is too short for wildlife and it costs almost the same as the canon 400mm which has longer reach, and the canon has an option for a filter.

  • @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy
    @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy 6 лет назад

    Nikon uses very nice ballistic nylon bags now and has been for the last 3-4 generations of super-teles. The hard cases have been long gone. Also, a 1.4x TC always costs a stop, so you get f/2.8 as a max aperture with it on. It's unfortunate what they're charging for this lens though. It's a crop sensor lens, has no drop-in filter provision, and comes in a cheap (compared to Nikon) bag/case. At least they include a TC and a no Arca plates required is nice.

  • @Biosynchro
    @Biosynchro 6 лет назад +1

    Cool lens. I am thinking of going to the Fuji system, even though I kind of want to move to Micro 4/3 (APS-C is the sweet spot, as they say). This lens is actually more versatile than it looks. You want a 600/4 equivalent? Put on the 2x TC. When people think that through, they will see why Fuji released this lens instead of a 400/4.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  6 лет назад

      I use both LR and PS. For sharpening, it comes down to the lens. XF18-55mm is slightly soft (at least my copy) but sharpens up nice in LR. As for noise reduction, I usually look in the shadows. If I see colour noise, I reduce it until I don't see it. Again it depends on the photo.

    • @stevelink21
      @stevelink21 6 лет назад

      @@bigheadtaco Nice unboxing, BigHead! Regarding post processing software, I have an iMac and use Affinity Photo and Photoshop. I read somewhere that LR doesn't quite do Fuji RAW files justice, as does, say, Capture One. But for jpegs, it probably doesn't matter too much, since you're working with an "already baked" file anyway.

    @DmitryBrodsky007 6 лет назад

    awesome video as usual. Now I hope Fuji can release something longer like 400F4 or something for birding etc. Since XT3 AF is the best ever in mirrorless world, it would be a killer for BIF, but 200F2 even with 1.4 converter is too short. Maybe with 2X TC, but I would want to know if 2X converter would degrade the optical quality too much.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  6 лет назад +1

      Fujifilm does have both a 1.4x and 2x converter, but it's not specifically designed for their prime lens system, although it will work. Hopefully their next big lens is an XF350mm f/2.8 or so, with an optionally or included 2x converter.

    Looks a lovely lens but I think I'd rather wait and use my pennies to purchase a GFX lens or the GFX 100S when it eventually comes out. I prefer to keep my Fuji X system small and compact - this lens doesn't fit the bill for me but I'm sure some will be very glad it exists :)

  • @RomanCanas
    @RomanCanas 6 лет назад +3

    Still this Fuji 200mm is too short for wildlife, there is no 2x converter for it and it costs almost the same as the longer reach canon 300mm 2.8 or 400mm F4. I have been shooting with the Fuji xf 100-400 for a couple of years and I think sadly I'll have to get rid of the fuji gear that I love and go back to canon

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  6 лет назад

      For sure, the 100-400 is probably still going to be the lens of choice for Fujifilm X shooters until there's more super telephotos. I'm hoping for a XF350 or XF400 on the higher end, and maybe a 270mm f/3.5 for a more reasonable price.

  • @FrankWalsh
    @FrankWalsh 6 лет назад

    Let's be clear about the "aperture factor". When it comes to light gathering, f2 is f2, the sensor size and "crop factor" of has absolutely no effect. When it comes to depth of field, it is a factor of the lens to subject distance, not the size of the sensor. The only reason an f2 lens can be said to be "equivalent" to something like a 2.8 is because for the same framing you will be farther away with the cropped sensor, therefore you will have a greater depth of field. Don't believe me? It is easy to test. Set up a cropped sensor camera and a full frame camera at the same subject distance and shoot at the same aperture. The amount of background blur will be identical when you crop the full frame shot.
