    Dear Anthony, can you please share some advice for settings on X-H2s and X-T4 for this kind of work / Do you manual focus? Do you use the 150-600? Or is it autofocus? I would love to make the switch from Lumix G cameras because of the glass and was using X-T2 before. But since there has been so much uncertainty around the autofocus ... I am wondering. Watching your content over the years clearly shows, that very professional looking video work is possible with the gear. Kind regards, Simon

      @anthonyhurren5613 6 дней назад

      Hi Simon thanks for the nice comments. 👍 for video side of things I use manual focus a lot often through the EVF to get my exposure correct. I generally hybrid shoot so don’t use ND filters, I have to ignore the 180 degree shutter speed rule, but as I mostly shoot the 120p 4K slowmo anyway so motion blur becomes less important to me. My recipe for wildlife footage: Astia soft profile, always manual white balance generally around 5600K, DR 200, shadows and highlights both on -2 this gives me a good dynamic range without having to use Flog so it’s good quality quick 4k straight from camera that needs little to no grading afterwards and also allows me to use low iso 320 so low noise (Flog is minimum 800 iso I think). I mostly always use the EVF to nail my exposure when filming unless on a tripod where I will sometimes use the back screen after checking exposure first through the EVF. Lenses are a combination of the 150-600mm, 200mm F2 + 1.4 TC, 18mm 1.4. I sometimes use auto focus on birds in flight for video against a sky background using zone focus and bird detect, but it’s tricky sometimes. (Hopefully Fuji will improve this). Everything is mostly handheld unless shooting from a hide, so the 120p 4K slowmo helps alot, I sometimes stabilise a bit more in post if needed. I usually always try to crouch down low or sit down and use a leg or knee to support myself if possible, or find some support like a fence rather than taking a tripod with me to keep me mobile. Hope that helps 👍 kind regards Anthony

    Isn't it easier to just use a FF camera for telephoto work? I can understand using medium frame cameras for that in the old days since resolution was limited by grain size on the film, meaning that you wanted the largest negative practical, but in the digital era that is not a valid argument any more.

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613 3 месяца назад

      Hi Tugela thanks for the comment. yes it is easier in some ways. But sometimes easier is not the reason to dismiss new possibilities, now that medium format is so much faster than it used to be and less bulky, it makes it appealing to some wildlife photographers who just want the best image quality possible for certain projects and situations. I myself would certainly like to challenge myself on this system for wildlife photography a longer period of time just to see what’s possible 😀🤪 but that’s just me I like and thrive on a fresh challenge. Hope that makes sense? Kind regards Anthony

    Wonderful work Anthony! I was searching for Fujifilm auto focus tips and stumbled upon this video, happy I found it! I noticed you already answered most of the focusing questions from other commenters. I use an XT3 with the 150-600mm and I was wondering what your ISO tolerance range is? When do you think 6400-12800 ISO is best to use on the XT3 with the smaller 26.1MP sensor? I've had some decent results at 6400 but it's been inconsistent for me. Any insight would be appreciated because it looks like you've been shooting on Fuji for many years now, I only started in 2020!

    A very nice review. As the owner of a GFX 100s, I’m not sure there is enough here for me to upgrade, but it’s tempting. Even the improved EVF and faster operational speed (and possible improvement to IBIS) might be enough. And although it’s a small change, I’m also very glad to see Fujifilm put an Arca Swiss compatible foot on their new GF 500mm lens. I have the (outstanding) GF 250mm lens and it is disappointing that this lens lacks the Arca Swiss foot.

    Just as with the GFX100 II it is not a new sensor. Just some software smoke and mirrors. New cpu, evf and buffer are legit though if you want to spend the money. The cost to upgrade from 100S doesnt make sense for people who already own that body.

    Thank you for your contribution Anthony, it has been a while since you put up a video. But as always it was nice to watch. I must also say that it is great to hear the voice of sanity in the camera world. The frames per second race is getting a bit out of control I think. The fastest cameras only a few years ago were 12 frames per second and that actually ensured that you as the photographer had to work on your skill and techniques. Anyway thanks again and take care.

      I think he gaves you the answer in the video : c1-c7 customs modes that allow you to change the all set-up in less than 1 second (the X-T5 can’t do it). And also the possibility to assign the af mode selection to a front button, impossible with a switch button.

    So enjoyed this video! Is there any chance you could go through your AF, settings? I’m have an XT3 and XT5 and mainly use the XF 100-400 for wildlife. But I really struggle to get sharp shots of birds in flight. 😢 I’ve used various custom modes, AF settings and the new ‘Bird’ detect seems almost useless on XT5. I’ve used many, many combinations now and whatever shutter speed the cameras will do…and I’m soooo frustrated with it. For the record, I had my first ‘proper’ 35mm SLR camera 40years ago, so I’m no novice. But I must admit I’ve only gotten more interested in bird photography these last three years. Hope you can help with perhaps a detailed video. Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧

      @anthonyhurren5613 5 месяцев назад

      Hi Dazza thanks for the message I don’t have enough spare time unfortunately to make a video on this subject (I have to carefully choose what videos I am willing to spend time making) Matthieu Gasquet has a comprehensive video on RUclips XH2vs XH2s though. I generally use zone focus plus bird eye detect, and either continuous mode 2 or I tweak my own continuous modes. Shutter speed usually 2500/S or above and using f8 when using my 150-600mm. It does struggle with complicated backgrounds but does well against the sky or distant background. 👍

    • @MrDazza64
      @MrDazza64 5 месяцев назад

      @@anthonyhurren5613 - Thanks very much for your reply buddy. Yes, this is what I’m experiencing, focus being pulled to background rather than staying with the bird!🦅 It’s so frustrating. I generally use Zone and Mode 2, but in frustration I switch about trying to find that bit extra. I have set-up a custom setting that was recommended by another RUclipsr on his channel, but it really doesn’t seem to get any better keeper rates. I find the bird eye detect disappointing even for smaller birds on trees etc, preferring a small single box in continuous directly on the eye gives me far better consistency, but that is next to impossible for birds in flight obviously! Thanks for your time, I will endeavour to get better and work on technique. 🙏 Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧

      Forget the xh2 for moving birds if you are photography minded. Go for the h2s. It's a much better wildlife option. Better choose the h2 for landscape, portrait, or still videos, though in that case, I would actually look elsewhere entirely (ff). The xh2s is a bargain for its features which is why it is a valid choice.

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613 6 месяцев назад

      Hi LiquidCylinders, I choose the XH2s generally for birds in flight but sometimes I choose the XH2 with my 200mm F2 + 1.4TC for Owls as I can have cropping room for the shorter focal length lens, but I always use mechanical shutter with the XH2 to avoid rolling shutter, its fine with these larger slower birds but obviously you are limited to 15 FPS and its not blackout free like the XH2s with its 40FPS. I often have the XH2s with my 150-600mm attached and my XH2 with my 200mm F2 when waiting for wildlife in camouflage to be ready for either scenario for a bird or a larger mammal. But I would choose the XH2s if I only had one choice, for that stacked sensor speed and the 4K 120p video. Hopefully the next generation of stacked sensors for the XH2s will have more resolution. Kind regards Anthony
