    I'm hardly new to the importance of understanding caloric intake, but talking about caloric density in terms of calories per pound of food is very fascinating. Awesome video.

    She misspoke when She says convert carbohydrates to proteins and she means carbs to fat. Lipogenesis. lipo is fat.
    It's not the preferred storage for carbohydrates in the diet it's more efficient to store carbohydrates as glycogen. Glycogen is stored in the liver and muscle. Glycogen is the main and preferred fuel for the body (and the brain).
    What's also interesting from the work of ray cronise is how hard it is to "burn" fat off by exercising. He did some metabolic studies to measure and yeah when you exercise it does your body good and makes you feel great, but your body is burning the stored glycogen. You'd have to hike all day ~20ish miles to totally deplete your glycogen stores. hiking with snacks /food / lunch etc. will replenish that glycogen. Also excess dietary carbs can be burned off by the body while you sleep the body can raise your temp half a degree and burn off glycogen it can't store. I don't know how he measured this but he has a contraption. Sleeping in a cool room and taking a tepid (not cold but not warm either) bath before bed to lower your core temp can help with this carb burn. You won't store it as fat if you give yourself a chance to burn it. Taking a walk after dinner at an easygoing pace can help too.
    The whole amazing thing about following macdougall is you can be in calories deficit, lose weight and still feel great (have energy) because your wet starch consumption keeps your glycogen stores topped up daily. A Miracle.

    It's nice to hear that foods like dates are something you want to avoid if you are losing weight due to calorie density. These last 15lbs are going slow, yet I eat dates and some nuts. I'll avoid them for now for my goals.
    Going to up my vegetables and potato intake. Start reducing rice as well since I binge eat on it lol.

    I do include some nuts and seeds in my diet, but I never really bought the 'fats are satiating' concept. I mean, eating an entire pizza would also be satiating, but obviously the comparison is not calorie to calorie.

    • @TB1M1
      @TB1M1 5 лет назад

      well they are satiating in the sense that they will blunten blood sugar spike.. ie keeping glucose in the blood

    Dates are not dried for initial sale, they are fresh and moist. If packaged dates seem to be dried, it is because they are not fresh just as any food that has no preservatives added will dry out on the shelf. Purchase them soon after harvesting, and store them properly.

    Always a pleasure to hear Dr. Lisle. Calorie density is important, but there are still some of us who are able to eat too many calories from 100% left of the line. I have to carefully control how much I eat of a meal of plain broccoli, sweet potatoes, or any fruit, nothing added just to maintain, struggling to lose. *Sigh* I just love my wonderful survival genes.

      CHEF AJ I am desperate to get her to drop it but she has lost a lot of weight on it😖 which fuels her enthusiasm but I won’t give up trying to make her a plant based person. I have toyed with plant based eating but started it in earnest two weeks ago and feel so good. I am prediabetic, have dangerously high LDL (292) and cholesterol (338) genetically, am allergic to statins and a cardiac patient. I listened to your broadcast this weekend and was SO inspired i have recommitted myself to this healthy lifestyle. Thank you so very much for your, and all the contributors, dedication. I hope some day to meet you in person.

    Turning carbs into fat is a more energy intensive process. It can be done. What happens is fat is preferable to be stored and carba are burned for energy. So, if someone is in an energy surplus, they will burn the sugar they eat and store the fat. When they fast at night or go long periods between meals they turn to fat reserves.
