This is such a hard form of magic: no talking, no bullshitting the audience. You have to perform the story when everyone's eyes are glued at what you do and the misdirection comes from the story itself, pulling people's attention away from what we think the character does and where the trick really is. (Which is especially hard because this is basically a very eaborate sleight of hand). Chapeau!
I've seen Stuart do this trick on Penn & Teller Fool Us. I've also seen it refined at the combined convention in Louisville, our Winter Carnival of Magic, and the IBM National Convention in Atlanta. Staurt has gotten better and refined his act. Too bad the fools at FISM thought they knew his trick and waled out without seeing his improvements! Keep on rocking Stuart! We love you! Cheers!
I know, right? On the other hand, Penn always looks like he either doesn't give a f**k, or he is annoyed that someone on stage is as good at magic as him.
It was behind the mirror under the covering, when it was removed it was used to disguise the hidden prop bag. min 2:55 - 2:58 is where the fabric is misshapen.
simple but amazing. here simply how it was all done. at 2:55 he took the stuff from behind the mirror and hid them under the cover in his hand, and then at 3:05 he returned them to the back of the mirror.
Congratulations on your win! That was a great performance. You showed us that what could have been hidden at first was in fact not hidden, then you rubbed it in our face with how impossible it all would be to hide! Even if it was behind the mirror, how the heck did you do it? Penn & Teller agreed obviously lol
@James Stanley bingo. This is a great example of showmanship and skill. He's able to remove and hide it so quickly, it truly appears like there's nothing their.
What a wonderful world this would be if everyone just chucked watching all the negative media, news, commentary and just watched Fool Us. Every show is a testament to contestants hard work, Allisons wonderful personality and Penn and Tellers comments, always supportive, encouraging, and on occasion of being fooled, humility. Penn and Teller are real heros. We really need more people like them .
Pen and teller know how the trick is done but you performe sooo good that they simple enjoy!! Amazing mágic. And Amazing bag of tricks behind the mirror. 😉
I'm not so sure about that. Yes, everyone knows that the things he pulled out from behind his mirror have been there beforehand, or he put it there at some point during the act. He was also careful to show the back of the mirror in the beginning, so we also see that he doesn't just have a big box there. But this kind of basic knowledge isn't enough to count as "busted", especially considering the amount of items involved which probably required some careful and probably ingenious management to keep it all invisible. And probably some gimmicks. Its not the first trick where Penn does an explanation stating that they "followed" him, and followed him, and followed him some more, but eventually they just gave up. I'm guessing that this is really the case here, basically an "overloading fool": he's been developing this performance for years, and while some of this certainly had to go into things like story as well, there's probably been a lot of development and experimentation to get each effect right. Penn&Teller would basically have to recreate at least the overall script of what he's developed in these years
The trick is in the mirror. If you look closely you can tell that it's not a standard mirror. Its the one snow white witches had, that is way it duplicates things. Similar to a 3d printer, but from the 1600s. Good plot and trick any way to you and your ancient mirror...
Wonderful act and I love the story. I'm with Penn in that it's nice to see someone actually getting their money wish. I'm honestly confused how they didn't know how to trick was done though because I think I even figured it out.
He had a sack full of props hiding behind the mirror cover. He put the cover (with the sack of props in it) on his arm when he flipped the mirror around, then hung the sack back up after he righted the mirror.
Okay, this is the biggest mystery. The guy at 4:19 has been in at least 4 videos now, and has been chosen as a participant in at least one act. All different days. Watch out for him if you’re binging these!
It's not a mystery: they've explained several times they cut a single "episode" out of different days, so the guy would appear in different episodes that had parts from the same day. This is also the reason why within a season Alyson and P&T wear the same outfits (so that cutting parts from different recordings would work).
There are some tricks where I have a rough idea of the method used... and then there are tricks like these where I have no blooody clue what just happened. Well done!
An act that started as meh...worked up to ok, funny but the trick is fairly obvious and finally gets to woah! How is he doing that? Drawn right in. Loved it
I'm sure everybody seen him use the dusty old blanket to hide the prop in the back of the pull it off but I'm sure that's not the whole trick got to be something more right we all seen that
@@bupobm Yea nah, it does. Without that blanket/cloth he wouldn't of been able to pull off the illusion, espcially trying to make it look like there was nothing behind the mirror. Don't know how P&T missed that.
Great act, but it's a lot more fun when you don't spoil the end right in the title of the video. Especially when it was fooled by technicality since it sounds like they pretty much had the act figured out.
holy crap, I know you. I remember you from way back when you were working with Lynn, DJ, and my mom (who did the book) on 'In The Woods'. I had no idea you were on Fool Us.
This was a very entertaining act! But, Penn & Teller were fooled by a shelf on the back of the mirror? At 2:55 he removed the mirror in his left arm. I must be missing something. Again, great act.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful but I don’t understand what bit Penn & Teller couldn’t figured out. This is, undoubtedly, a superb performance but I, if I saw some magicians doing something very similar, I can imagine how many variants P&T saw. Just wondering. Anyway, congrats for the trophy. This performance deserves it.
@Magician Stuart MacDonald Sorry, I didn't know it was your channel, I thought it was shared. I didn't mean to be so disrespectful. I've seen this act or one like it a few times I think, where there was a mirror so it hangs or hides the other objects. Did you create the device or were you referring to some variations of it or the way the act was presented? Again I apologize for the rude manner of my intervention.
@@ecastag This was the first performance of the mirror illusion I invented in front of a live audience. There were other versions but this was the first stand alone mirror. It has since gone through many evolutions and is much improved.
I like how Teller walked behind the mirror as he grabbed the trophy.
yah he check from edge to edge of the mirror
This is such a hard form of magic: no talking, no bullshitting the audience. Wonderful magic and show Stuart, bravo!!
The money bag having a mirror image printed on them was a nice touch.
Yeah! I noticed that! The dollar sign was reversed!
@@PhilBagels good catch yall
Huh, never noticed! Really nice touch
One of my fav Fool Us performances ever! So fun to watch time after time, well done!

This is the video from the Fool Us episode from back in 2017, I am fairly positive.
The look on Teller's face @5:21. Priceless. Like a kid at a magic show. He seems to be really enjoying the performance. 😊
I know, right? On the other hand, Penn always looks like he either doesn't give a f**k, or he is annoyed that someone on stage is as good at magic as him.
If you also notice, Teller walked behind the mirror prop while getting the trophy to get a good look at the trick. Sneaky sneaky.
Teller himself once said (yes said) that a magician is never happier then when he’s fooled by a magic trick he’s never seen.
Yes but he would never check it out without asking the magician first, that would be breaking the code!
5:09 The money bag from behind the mirror having the reversed $ sign was such beautiful attention to detail
It was behind the mirror under the covering, when it was removed it was used to disguise the hidden prop bag. min 2:55 - 2:58 is where the fabric is misshapen.
2:04 that laugh was just so wholesome and genuine
simple but amazing. here simply how it was all done. at 2:55 he took the stuff from behind the mirror and hid them under the cover in his hand, and then at 3:05 he returned them to the back of the mirror.
Wonderful act! One of the most entertaining and imaginative I've seen. Thank you!
love your act. could watch this over and over and not get tired of watching you perform
What a beautiful performence, Thank you very much!

You showed us that what could have been hidden at first was in fact not hidden, then you rubbed it in our face with how impossible it all would be to hide! I reckon the shelving rack that hangs on the back of the mirror gets removed and is covered up by the blanket while he shows us the mirror.
@James Stanley bingo. This is a great example of showmanship and skill. He's able to remove and hide it so quickly, it truly appears like there's nothing their.
Like Penn said, it is nice to see harmless greed rewarded without punishment.
What a treat! Thanks for the great performance!
An all-time fav / classic of the show. Just wowwww

maynard james keenan in an alternate universe where he decided to follow magic after his military service
love performances like this
You can't fool me. That's Ryan Reynolds in a bald cap.
Right??? Was the first thing came to my mind especially when he started talking. Also it was very eerie when he said "just like the oscars" hmmmmmmm
i knew he looked familer....
One of my favorites! 🎉
I saw this act in person at Magifest last year. Some stuff got added. My god. Shivers all over my body. I couldn't stand how much I loved it.

2:54 ;) Love it. Such a great trick. Thanks!
Thank you for finally uploading it!
Congratulations! Fun routine! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Loved it!! Great plot. Of all the magic tricks I've seen on Penn and teller, this seemed the closest to real magic :)
Such a cool act. Really enjoyed this one.
+Magician Stuart MacDonald This act not only fooled me, it was one of the most entertaining acts I had ever seen.
3:02 and 6:00 look close. Trick is busted.
Something in the black drape that got rehung on the back of the mirror after it was returned to the vertical position?
Nothing to do with the black drape that's a decoy
One of the best!!
A missed opportunity: you COULD have had TWO trophies.
Now that's called entertainment! 👍 You truly deserve the Trophy 🏆 WOW amazing
Teller casually walks behind the mirror to collect the trophy. 🏆

Loser I bet you are fun at parties ruining everything let us have fun
He's Stanley Tucci's doppelganger!
I get that a lot
More like Ryan Reynolds but bald. Especially the eye area. 😅
Thank you. Not a bad problem to have lol!!!!!@@_Kobold_

There are some tricks where I have a rough idea of the method used... and then there are tricks like these where I have no blooody clue what just happened. Well done!
It says in the title, magic mirror 😉
Still my most favourite trick from penn and teller
An act that started as meh...worked up to ok, funny but the trick is fairly obvious and finally gets to woah! How is he doing that? Drawn right in. Loved it
I wish magicians uploading their performances wouldn't spoil the outcome in the video title
It isn't card magic🙏👏👏 Finally
Love a shelf behind a mirror
I'm sure everybody seen him use the dusty old blanket to hide the prop in the back of the pull it off but I'm sure that's not the whole trick got to be something more right we all seen that
good job
Alyson knows how it was done, because she was looking at it from the side :-)
Easy. Compacted sponge balls inside flat objects with the mirriors back easily lowered after. To grab what he needs. OR opened sideways
I hate when the title ruin it for us.
The trick is busted from 2.53 to 3.06
Doesn’t bust the whole thing - I’m sure P&T “followed” that
@@bupobm If they followed that, then what fooled them exactly?
3:00 to 3:04 don't know if P&T saw the side angle but they did mention the compression. Not sure what they didn't get.
@@bupobm Yea nah, it does. Without that blanket/cloth he wouldn't of been able to pull off the illusion, espcially trying to make it look like there was nothing behind the mirror. Don't know how P&T missed that.

HECK YEA STU!
well done
Sir, beyond the illusion, your act is pure magic. Thank you.
You know when Penn has that frustrated “son of a b****!” look and Teller is joyfully astonished that you have them fooled. Excellent trick.
Great act, but it's a lot more fun when you don't spoil the end right in the title of the video. Especially when it was fooled by technicality since it sounds like they pretty much had the act figured out.
I Mabel need some money. Bring him back. I want to talk to him. We can go fifty, fifty.
Don't tell everyone. 😂

Well deserved!

You are welcome
This is the bet one.

Penn and Teller have seen many tricks, but this is the only one that fooled them simply by being too entertaining
niceeeeee hahahhaaaaaa
667th like. Great trick man...that looks impossible.
This was a very entertaining act! But, Penn & Teller were fooled by a shelf on the back of the mirror? At 2:55 he removed the mirror in his left arm. I must be missing something. Again, great act.

Thank you. This invention has done quite well for me.
I'm not going to watch this video. Why would I? You spoiled the ending in the title!!
Not funny also
The worst magic presentation I've ever seen. Bad, more to use it to fool other two magicians.
