- Valentino plays an Indian prince who, for his own safety, was sent to the United States, where he was raised by a Caucasian family. Eventually, he is called upon to return and take the throne, which is threatened by a usurper. The film takes a surprisingly enlightened view of other cultures and races.

Only Valentino could look great in that costume.
This was so great....thank you so much....He saved his people ...and got His true love..💜💜
Thank you so much for doing all the work in compiling this film! Even as is and without music, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I wish we can someday find this film and his other films complete!
You're welcome, and thank you for the kind words! Yes, I hope we can find a lot more of his movies, and more silent movies in general.
Thank you for the upload and thank you to the people responsible for this wonderful restoration of another intriguing Valentino film.😊
You're welcome!
There's a film starring Alla Nazimova called The Red Lantern (1919) that also deals with being mixed race.
Interesting to see. Thanks for putting it up, although there was no sound for some reason? This was the last film before Valentino left Paramount...he detested it. Wanda Hawley got poor reviews and there was no spark between the two leads. In the original book Amos dies, but here we see the "dream" of the future...
He detested Paramount or this role??.....thanks Sec Girl. You always have such interesting info .......💜
@@karenhill3970 The film. And he wasn't thrilled with the studio, either.
I suppose in the film it's a metaphorical death, as in the death of the old self and the birth of the new. I wonder if his final vision is prophetic or wishful thinking?
really? was the original book also called the young rajah?
ps. i found the book on internet archive!
Please can you name all of Valentino's films based off books? I know now that this, The Eagle, both Sheik films & Moran of the Lady Letty were based off books, are there any others? I'd like to look for them and read them if I can.
@@nenabunena” The four horsemen of the Apocalypse”, “Blood and Sand “ and “Camille” were also based on books.
Interesting that Molly is initially racist even though her dad is fine with her marrying Amos, and nice that she overcomes her prejudice.
Thank you!
Fanny Midgley was part of the Gaston Melies film troupe in San Antonio and Santa Paula.
Yes WONDERFUL
While I understand this is a reconstruction, where are the pictures of Rudolph in the beautiful East Indian costumes designed by Natasha, especially of him reclining in the boat? They can’t just have been publicity stills. I think there must be more of the storyline missing…
So wonderful 💖 thanks for your hard work and generosity.
You're welcome, and thank you too!
Wonderful! Thank you!
Bravo.
