It might just well be Rudy's make ups and costumes that you friend fell for and thought him mesmerising. A brilliant movie with a neat plot and an exciting finish to boot! As has already been suggested by the historical evidence, this film evidently did have a marked influence on the development of the eventual script for the "Desert Song" operetta which came shortly afterwards. I was happily surprised to note that Rudolph Valentino had much, much more of an expressive face than I had myself been expecting and was able to convey quite a range of emotions throughout the drama during this bygone age of cinema in its purest form.

It will be an earthly resurrection. That was His original plan for us to live forever here in the beginning. We are living in unique times. Events are going to be settled! A side point (and a good one ) IF Rudy were alive in our time, doctors would have administered sulfur drugs and penicillin for his peritonitis. He MOST likely would have lived!
Vilma Banky one of the most beautiful women in the world at the time. An incredibly gorgeous woman! The music is a bit to overstated. Where you need slower romantic themes, it sounds like action or a fight is going on. But not bad. I'm only 5 and half minutes in. But characters had individual themes in real Silent film scores.
The thing is, He made more Effort than Others in the SILENT ERA -- did u Know that He had his Scripts printed up in 2 LANGUAGES, so He wouldn't miss a NUANCE. This Factored into his Attitude on Screen, & his MARVELOUS GESTURES. Of course, since He was a dancer, he had Natural Poise & wonderful Hand movements.
I Can Tell You Now, Valentino Was a Very Old, Highly Spiritual Being. His Diary On Apple Book Shows How Very Well Read and Intelligent He Was. A Person Carries All that with Them From Past Incarnations. That Is If You Are a Highly Enlightened Soul. His Beauty Within Manifested Itself In His Causes and Effects In Life and Life Was Blessed to Have Him. My Prayers and Best Wishes Are to Him What Ever Dimension or Universe He Is In. His Movies are No Doubt My Favorite. Thanks Rudolph Valentino.
It was during the filming of this movie, which began in Feb. 1926, that it became clearly evident that Rudy was already ill....on horseback, he suddenly doubled over in pain and Karl Dane, who played Ramadan, assisted him off the horse...the pain passed, but the path was set for the further deterioration of Rudy's health. June Mathis visited the set and urged him to take a long rest...Sadly, Rudy ignored the warnings and he passed that August....
Having read the Sheik and its sequel, I notice some of Ahmed's characteristics in the first book got into the second film. There are some scenes in the first movie where his character looks like a spoiled petulant boy to me; perhaps that is intended or it is Valentino's youthful age that gives it away. Nevertheless, it's an iconic role. In "Son of the Sheik" movie, Ahmed Jr. looks like a full-grown man at the height of his power. Valentino's attire, revealing his strong arms, lends to that strength. The way he glowers at Yasmine after thinking she betrayed him and claims her as his own; it mirrors the relentless behavior of Ahmed in the original book.
Men like Rudolph Valentino come once in a Millennium. Before Valentino their was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and William Shakespeare. All three knew how too woo women with music, words, and dance 🕺
I always enjoy reading the place card descriptions in these films they are sometimes flowery and verbose with cloyingly descriptive allusions to to the unspoken desire for sex. It’s no wonder he was a heartbreaker in his day also it is reflective of certain style of archaic speech that is politely well mannered and fascinating from the time period everything is written with such deliberate measured language I wish we spoke with half as much erudite intonation today
Também era Valentino como o pai Sheik neste filme? Se for, a maquiagem que o envelheceu e as cenas de pai e filho juntos na luta ficaram perfeitas, considerando aquela época da filmagem!
I want to thank you so much for these classics. If not for you, I'd of NEVER SEEN ( even looked on ....well, never mind) LOL, I hope they can be left here for generations to come. Nameste :)
I beg the differ! Elvis is in no way shape or form as beautiful, intelligent, romantic and definitely not as gorgeous as he was!!! Rudy was his own and no other male hollywood star is on his level!! Hes just sooo GORGEOUS 😍😍😍😘😘😘
You and me too. The music doesn't fit the action. It sounds like just a classical score they chose and slapped it onto the film without any regard as to whether the music fit the emotion of the scenes within the film. I much prefer as good old Vitaphone score.
I agree that the music doesn't fit. I much prefer the electronic "Cafe Maure Orchestra" compilation by Eric Beheim. Each scene is orchestrated with great care and the music fits perfectly with the mood of the drama. Bleheim uses some well-known Borodin melodies, particularly in the love scenes, which adds a sensuous, exotic flavor. In my opinion, the music heard here gives me a feeling of disconnect. It does not enhance this film at all.
In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment. During the confinement at home have been watching old "Black & White" films and film history is incomplete without watching a film from the silent era of Rudolph.Valentino.This was the last film of Valentino and the kissing scenes answers the question was Rudolph.Valentino the first ever screen superstar ? Yes is the answer as the hysteria of his death proved the fact among legions of his female fans. As for his male fans he must have definitely been responsible for making cigarette smoking a fashion statement. The dwarf comedian could also be a reason for this film being a super-hit of its era.A must watch film and definitely the best or one of the best film of Valentino . Ahoy !
Rudolph Valentino had a beautiful profile & smile. Those gorgeous, smouldering, eyes. I can look at this film a number of times. And, I have done so. It’s a charming film, nearly 100 years later, & with no vocal dialogue. It’s all expression. Not only is Rudolph Valentino so gorgeous. So sexually alluring. His facial expressions & body language are so expressive. It’s brilliant watching him. Quite hypnotic to see his many expressions he is able to convey. He also looks so powerful & strong in this movie. Hard to believe he would not live to see the effect the film had on audiences of that time when it was finally released to the public after his death. Especially the effect it had on his female fans. I personally think it’s his best work he had done up until then. All the passion & sensuality are on high steroids with him. Yet he must have had warning pains. It would seem he just chose to ignore them. Maybe he was trying to prove his masculinity after being attacked by several for being too effeminate by so many envious & jealous men. All because he had such sex appeal & charisma. He wore the latest fashion - a wrist watch, a man’s bracelet, dapper clothes. He could dance beautifully & had the women swooning over him. How his friends, & especially Polo Negri whom he was dating at the time, did not insist on him seeing a Doctor for a checkup is quite mystifying. Polo Negri was aware he had bouts of pain well before he collapsed. She mentioned this fact when they were invited to parties & social occasions. Rudy had also mentioned it to several people that he thought he was having pain in the appendix area. He doctored himself with huge amounts of bicarbonate of soda instead. Had they made him go to the Doctor it might have saved his life. Instead the appendix burst together with an ulcer & infection set in. Sadly, Antibiotics were not available until 1928. So the sepsis & peritonitis were what caused his actual demise. That could bring anyone down, even today. Such a sad ending, & loss, of a great silent movie actor endowed with so many talents. So very sad. Because despite that fact he left an amazing body of work for fans to enjoy long after he was gone. All of the actors are fantastic. The delightful humour in various scenes. It adds a layer of delight & charm to this film. The background is also so great with the camels, the goats being. herded. The special watering cans that are used in the Middle East. The tables & furnishings. The wonderful costumes that are worn. Attention paid in such detail. The various well worn Trollops in a den of thieves. The one enjoying a bowl of something & then licking her fingers enjoying her delicacy. The heavy smoking wenches hardened from too many escapades. The flirting done by one heavy-set lady with the diminutive actor adds a layer of laughter & interest. The water pipe smoking all in the background. I love looking for those details. All these add so much charm to a film where actors only used their faces & bodies to tell a story. Rudolph Valentino was a master of those expressions needed in a scene. What tenderness, anger, doubt, sensitivity, sensuality, he was able to display throughout this film. I can well believe how he got the women fans all hot & bothered with his passion & beautifully tender love scenes. With the promise of what was yet to come. Sex & desire begin in the mind. And those scenes of Rudolph Valentino’s tap into that very timeless idea. It no doubt set a women’s pulses racing. Those scenes even get to you today, 100 years later. Rudolph Valentino had it all in bucket fulls. It’s rare to see an actor who can draw you in like he can. The ideal fantasy man to most women, of that time, & also, today. What woman would not love to have all those displays of love & desire shown to her with all that buildup. It’s all beautifully re-enacted by Rudolph Valentino. No wonder he said it’s the image on screen that women mostly fall in love with. It’s not reality. Nobody can keep that up for too long. Especially when a relationship has weathered all kinds of outside issues coming in on them called real life. But it’s nice to feel it, & see it on full display, for a while. That’s why I can look at this film several times. I find something new to admire, all over again, when looking at the background detail input of this film.

I watched music sound overs like "You Take My Breath Away," and "All I want To Do Is Touch You.' I get very sad. Very lonely for him. So sad that he passed away, too!!
@@zimjun7 FEEL EXACTLY same....im so sentimental cant even eat!!!! Then made mistake of listening to when He passes away & the dam tabloids lying & disrespectful to Him & fans & exploiting Him......they where devils then & DEVILS NOW.....FAKE NEWS & tabloids
@@zimjun7 this is how i feel too.....its like grief over FAMILY member....its miserable.......
@@karenhill3970 The last thing he said was: "Don't pull the shades. I want the sun to greet me in the morning." He WILL see the light of day. God remembers those who have died.
"I may not be the first victim --- but, by Allah, I shall be the one you'll remember!" I LOLed.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of him in dual roles because that was such a new thing at that time.
He already had played 3 roles in The Eagle!!!!
So good & versatile!!! & COMEDY!!!!
Thank you for updating this great movie
oh god rudy .... you lovely man
AHS brought me here. Fantastic Actor!
So glad AHS: Hotel is keeping the legend of Valentino alive by introducing it to a whole new generation and era.
Yasmine: Out here, first born of a mule!
Ahmed Senior: You can't blame *that* on a parrot!
Ahaha! I love it. The comedy in this film is golden.
The costumers sure knew what they were doing putting him in a short-sleeved shirt...!
Rudolph was born in 1895 and I was born in 1995, 100 yrs gap in age, woh . But still I'm lost in his eyes.
Rudolph Valentino was born a gorgeous young man...but I think he brought more to the role! ...He was remembered well! :)
This is the second silence film that I watch...first was the shiek ... Rudy was so fine dam!
We think so too in TEXAS USA. the great state)!!!..now we know how our sisters in the 1920's felt.....!!! Darn!!!!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
HOW COULD HE DO THIS MOVIE ...W AN PERFORATED ULCER??? How.......😢😢😟💔💔💔💔💔💔🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
😪😪😪
Always wanted to see this film. Thanks for uploading!
The orchestral background music enhances the drama very well.✨🎶🎵🎶📽✨
Men like Rudolph Valentino come once in a Millennium. Before Valentino their was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and William Shakespeare. All three knew how too woo women with music, words, and dance 🕺
Согласна с вами Валентино самый красивый и талантливый на земле актер и Моцарт самый великий музыкант
Beautiful Handsome Rudolph Valentino I Love You Beautiful Movie....❤
I always enjoy reading the place card descriptions in these films they are sometimes flowery and verbose with cloyingly descriptive allusions to to the unspoken desire for sex. It’s no wonder he was a heartbreaker in his day also it is reflective of certain style of archaic speech that is politely well mannered and fascinating from the time period everything is written with such deliberate measured language I wish we spoke with half as much erudite intonation today
I Love the speech from this ERA ! It is more Polite & I Feel that Today, they overdo it with the "OVERT' sexy speech in film.
Rudi was Divine!
Também era Valentino como o pai Sheik neste filme? Se for, a maquiagem que o envelheceu e as cenas de pai e filho juntos na luta ficaram perfeitas, considerando aquela época da filmagem!
Che bell'uomo! And he could act!
I want to thank you so much for these classics. If not for you, I'd of NEVER SEEN ( even looked on ....well, never mind) LOL, I hope they can be left here for generations to come. Nameste :)
Que bella película, que varonil y sensual es Rodolfo Valentino. Definitivamente, debí nacer en otro tiempo.
valentino super sexy, maravilloso. gracias por compartir esta peli
I still want him❤
Great movie, thank you for posting.
The scene of horsemen riding on the sandy desert is what most viewers remember about the movie.
Yes thete is can't take my eyes of him 🙄💕
Rudolph Valentino 🌟 l'irresistibile fascino latino senza tempo 🔥
Great movie I cried.
Before There was Elvis Presley THERE WAS Rudolph Valentino!!
If only this man knew how many post-mortem admirers he would have over a 100 years later.
Post mortem?
@@NirvanaFan24
“Post mortem” isn’t exclusively a medical term. It refers to everything concerning the individual after death.
I love you Rudolph Valentino❤
💕❤
The only actor l would have loved to sit down and have dinner with.
А я бы с ним поспала бы
Hey 😯 it's Elvis doing the movie "Harem Scarem" back in the 1920's. Take a real good look. Rudolph Valentino and Elvis both extremely goodlooking men.
I beg the differ! Elvis is in no way shape or form as beautiful, intelligent, romantic and definitely not as gorgeous as he was!!! Rudy was his own and no other male hollywood star is on his level!! Hes just sooo GORGEOUS 😍😍😍😘😘😘
@@tonyadenton9196 harum scarum was a updated remake of the movie Elvis loved doing it because of Valentino

This film was made 94 years ago
Is that a joke? 😳
I love this movie romantic and funny
* Long protracted sigh/furious eyelash batting* !!!! ;-)
Handsome Valentino, but i found the music annoying
Ahoy !
Legendary...
la musique ne va pas du tout avec les images.
The legendary Vilma Banky was simply beautiful. What a smokeshow! Perfect leading lady for Rudy.
The art of seduction by Robert Greene brought me here

Grande ator ! Ele era perfeito .
The music really doesn’t match this mute movie at all! I had to watch the whole thing without music just so I could get through it!
You're right, it doesn't match well. I muted it and played some Persian music instead.
Lindo !!! Obrigada por postar. 😍
Rudolph Valentino = materialized fantasy.
El punto máximo de la pasión. En una película de la epoca silente.
