No doubt this is FANTASTIC but THE SON OF THE SHEIK, with Valentino playing both father and son, is THE BEST as it refines and defines this, the first one. The Son of the Sheik is truly spectacular!!!
Calling all Valentino fans. If you haven't already done so, please read his book of poetry or observations-"Day Dreams. " It is simply a lovely written work by the one and only, Rodolfo Pietro Filliberto Raffello Gugliemi d'Valentina d'anguello! 😊

"For the fist time she had met a man who had failed to bow to her wishes, whom a look has been powerless to transform into a willing slave. In a few hours that had elapsed she had learned fear, a terrible fear that left her sick with apprehension, and she was learning obedience. Obedient now, she forced herself to lift her eyes to his, and the shamed blood surged slowly into her cheeks. His dark passionate eyes burnt into her like a hot flame. His encircling arms were like bands of fire, scorching her. His touch was torture. "Helpless, like a trapped wild thing, she lay against him, panting, trembling, her wide eyes fixed on him, held against their will. Fascinated she could not turn them away and the image of the brown handsome face with its flashing eyes, straight cruel mouth and strong chin seemed seared into her brain. The faint indefinite scent of an uncommon Turkish tobacco clung about him, enveloping her. She had been conscious of the same scent the previous day when he had held her in his arms during the wild ride across the desert." -The Sheik by E.M. Hull
@Barbara Shernoff The book isn't as graphic as contemporary harlequin romance novels but it can be startling. I can see why the book would have been considered scandalous by 1920's standards! The biggest change I noticed is Ahmed's restrained behavior in the film; whereas in the book Ahmed is more arrogant and dominating. I don't think Valentino as Ahmed would have been as iconic/desirable if he came across as more of a brute on screen. As for Diane, I'm glad the book fleshed her character out a bit. We learn that she was an orphan raised by her brother (19 years older) and he couldn't be bothered by going out of his way for her so he raised her in a harsh Spartan lifestyle.

Very good soundtrack! With all due respect the organ accompaniment puts me to sleep and makes me think of funerals! Rudolf Valentino is beyond beautiful! I think with coaching he probably would have done fine in sound movies, perhaps in supporting roles, but great nonetheless!
