These Edwardian ghost stories prove to be timeless masterpieces. They never seemed fictional to the reader or listener as they were much closer to reality. This is 1941's Spellbound. A young man is distraught after losing his fiancée to a terminal illness. He becomes involved with a group of spiritualists in order to contact her, leading to a rather frightening series of events
Just a few minutes in and I'm hooked. The characters/actors are so attractive and interesting. Many thanks for the upload - must be quality if Benson and Malleson are involved.
GOD forbids 'communion' with the dead through witchcraft, divination, etc. The only reason He allowed Samuel to be conjured by the witch of Endor was to teach Saul a lesson for his wickedness. Another point to remember is that Samuel happened long before Christ "led captivity captive", and moved the righteous from Paradise to Heaven. From His resurrection onward, the only souls within this earth are the wicked in hell. Attempting to commune with them opens a disastrous portal for demonic activity.
You may all know this already, but Fr RH Benson is a masterful novelist, if his style is sometimes a bit dated. My Grandpa wouldn’t let my Mum read this one! Also check out “The Lord of the World.”
For a taste of "The Lord of the World" check out the "synopsis" on Wikipedia. Completely indigestible. I'm astonished anyone could actually read the entire turgid novel without wanting to cut their own throat. I know the author was a priest but it's nothing but Catholic propaganda.
