    Thanks so much for sharing this... What a powerhouse! Someday I would love to sponsor a silent movie festival on the big screen. If I ever do, this would definitely be one of my top choices!

    I thought Magua's war paint was ridiculous. It looked so out of character. It made me laugh. I did think the film was worth seeing and showed more strategy. The music sounded good to me, similar to the era which would be the harpsichord or a spinet (much better than organ music). This was a very violent and bloody movie to my surprise, the incident with the mother and the baby. Oh my! Dead bodies everywhere! Magua carries yellow hair around like a rag doll. A very good lead up to a poignant ending. I even liked the chanting. Thanks Wm.

    Thanks for posting. I wasn't aware that this version existed. I have seen the 1936, 77 & 92 versions.. Never seen a silent one. The 77 version was very low budget and didn't even include the fort or armies.

    closer to the novel's' plot than the other movies - eg 1992 version - in the novel - Cora is part black which perhaps explains why she is dark haired - while her half-sister is blonde - in the novel & this movie - Cora is attracted to Uncas - so too in real life - the actress and actor of those parts (Barbara Bedford & Alan/Albert Roscoe) would marry soon afterwards - Barbara was still a teenager when this film was released

    James Fenimore Cooper wrote the Last of the Mohicans in 1825 or so. Its one of my favorites, and while I am not a fan of silent movies , I enjoyed this version as well as the other two that followed. Of course most films/books about Native Americans are not "politically correct". Lets hope the pendulum adjusts at some point for these First People- Thanks for posting

    It could be interesting if I could put together a sound track in Traditional NOH MUSIC. I WAS AN ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR KUNIOSHI MUNAKATA FOR THE FIRST PERFORMANCE OF NOH HAMLET IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE. IT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AND KUNIOSHI WAS VERY TALENTED AND VERY MUCH APPRECIATED FOR THE SUCCESS OF NOH HAMLET

      I had to make music tracks for literally 100s of silent films on YT at once; hence I did not have the leisure to make any of them better than they are. Plus I have no ads, and everything on my part on YT is free. What ads do show up, are others (not me) trying to make money on my uploads.

    Some surprisingly strong violence for a film made in 1920. There are at least two deaths in this film that come as a genuine shock (one involving a baby no less).

      +Keyser Soze It's a movie of how it was. Too strong for you? You can always go back to cartoons and maybe a Disney flick.......unless that's too strong for you also. Pfffftttt

    Interesting silent movie, well worth seeing. Good cinematography and scene composition. However, the music seemed very ill-chosen and ill-matched. During the massacre by the Hurons of the retreating British column, for example, the music is upbeat and jolly. I could have done a better score for it myself.

      I could too. I have experimented in college with piano and strong strings I think I will have to go for it again sometime. I truly appreciate silent movies

      Most silent films that I see either online or video have music that does not match the film - which is annoying. When that is the case, I just turn the sound completely off. I enjoy the film better that way.

      Karloff had a small part. I believe he is in the scene at 42:14, as the Indian on the right.

    Not authentic Native drum pattern in the intro just to fyi

    • @WmThomasSherman
      @WmThomasSherman  7 лет назад +4

      What nonsense. This music came from a recording of Native American tribes-people, in addition there are or may be different drum patterns used by different tribes; so how on earth can you talk about an "authentic" drum pattern as if they were all of one kind?
