0.022ml per pulse plus or minus 3% tolerance. Multiplied by the hertz. It will use more on start up and higher heat setting!
Excellent video. I always wondered how efficient these heaters are and you have just shown that they are indeed very efficient. I'd pay that to be toasty warm.
I agree.. little price to pay to be warm.
We have one in the house .the garage and the camper . the best heating solution of modern times..
Great video
Cheers ...yeah great heaters .I have one in my shed and in my micro camper... I've just done a power usage video..
Hi all, IV got mine in a 5*3mtr wood shed with insulation, I topped my tank up on Friday night 4/11/22, ran it most of weekend (about 10/11 hrs aday) it's now Monday and the level is now bang on the first mounting point.
I find it more energy efficient running it 24/7 and give the 15/20 min burn of full power to clean the burn chamber out ever 24/36hrs.
This is only my 2nd winter......and it's not really cold yet.
Most of my working out was done over Xmas, January and February.
Thinking of setting one up in house Todo downstairs living area.
Most be still cheeper than gas central heating.
I agree it's got to be cheaper than our energy suppliers.
My van is a Renault traffic, low roof, so it's fairly small inside, in the settings you can drop to 0.8ml. ( below the factory setting)
I have ran this heater over 3 winters often below zero degrees, on time is approx 10pm, off time approx 8am (10hrs) approx £1.10 per night.
Toasty warm 👍🏻
Brilliant...I have just sold the van , I am looking for a small van like yours..
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC It's been ideal for me as I live alone in it.
Few things I have learned.
Buy decent leisure batteries first time.
Buy a decent inverter first time.
Fit a 15 litre fuel tank to feed the diesel heater.
Add a litre of white spirit to 15 litres of diesel in the winter to stop it freezing up.
Use Redex diesel treatment, it keeps the glow plug and chamber clean.
I see more and more ppl buying vans to convert, I've made the mistakes and learned so they don't have to 😁

Very interesting! I wonder how much red diesel it would use over a nights sleep setting the thermostat to say.... 20 degrees?
once the van reached 20 degrees it would power down to its lowest setting , and would stay at that setting all night unless it dropped below 20..
it wont turn off and on ,so at least 1 litre every 6 hour or more if it got bekow 20 degree.
Great video What temperature was your van on the low setting.
Not sure of the temp , but I can tell you it was toastie warm, and it's a large van.

@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC Hi there, nice video! I think a lot of people right now are searching online for a cheap alternative to traditional heating, not only for camper but indoor use too. In italy for example metane is 4x what it was last year. Who's got a low income and a big, badly insulated home can't affort thousands of euros worth of bills and is looking for a cheaper alternative. A friend of mine bought a "chinabasto" and uses it in 3 of the 6 rooms for winter time.
also given the insulation in the van - you probably won't need to keep it on for that length of time. Mine stays pretty warm, though I do also have curtains to block off certain areas of the van, so i'm only really heating the lounge - curtain top to bottom of the cargo door and bulkhead. Switching to the rear when its close to bedtime. Thanks for the cost per hour, no idea what I was using.
i do have a lot of insulation in my van your right . and i never have it on for long . Never on for a few hours a night to be honest ..
i guess in winter it will be on more but i am sure low setting would be warm enough..
Been wondering for a while, if you were tempted to buy an inverter to hook your fridge up when you're off grid?
@@He110World yes i have been tempted to double the battery power and use an inverter for the fridge . Ihave been using a 12volt cool box and its worked really well ..
For those of us who live full time in the van, that is going to work out quite a lot - I was hoping for better fuel economy. Having written that it is better than getting cold! I appreciate that there are differences from country to country and where one lives within a country, but I think in many cases the hassle of getting red diesel is giong to be greater than the saving of using it!
I am lucky my local garage sells it ... you just declare your using it for heating and it's fine..
But even red is going up in price ..as of today its 140 a litre ...
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC I am in Poland. Here the price difference is less than 3p per litre so in my case it is going to be either proper diesel or vegetable oil - assuming the heater will take it!
@@oliver90owner That would be a good point if the heaters came in various sizes but as a rule as far as RVs are concerned they don't. In February 2021, I was in my van in -22C, so in that case I turned up the heating, something I am hoping won't be necessary this year!
i wouldnt use veggie oil in these heaters..
yes your right but the van is massive .. i must have done a good job of insulation
Did you have the doors closed on the van when doing the test. My diesel heater knocks down automatically when the required temperature is reached, then just ticks over a lot slower that yours, that keeps my van warm 18°c.
Doors were closed . I've set it up to tick over slower from 1.6 to 1.2 , so it's like yours now.
i find that my deisel heater in my van will run all night on one litre of deisel, once its done its high speed start up and has got the van interior up to temp, around 22 deg C. it goes into low speed to just keep the interior up to temp. with doors closed etc. and i have the 8kw model. i've just bought another to fit in my garage where i'll be using a van battery charged from a solar panel and charge controller for elec power. good heaters these and economical. i'll also pipe the heat into the house as my garage is attached. 👍 i'm expecting the price of these heaters to sky rocket if they get popular !
Yes I think the heaters are great and work very well on low for a van ..I used to run it on low all night in my van on less than a litre. Very economical
Can you tell me where you connect the fuel out from the tank as there is no pre drilled hole ?
You have to drill your own hole..
I think it's best to buy a top feeder from ebay .no risk of leaks then.. its a long metal tube that goes in the top of tank and feeds right to the bottom...
If you want to sub-divide the 1L into quarts then you shouldn't do it across the "big plastic dimple" in the fuel tank.. it's not a linear at this point.... you could use the part between the two lower dimples and the upper dimple
Thanks . It's just a rough guide anyway , best way to do it would be dip the fuel line into a container with 1 litre of fuel in it. Maybe I will do that to get an exact figure
Great video, just bought one of these to heat my utility room and conservatory and was wondering about running cost, the one I have says 0.1liters per hour @ 5kw output (medium setting) so should be around 16p - 20p per hour. Even if its a bit higher, its still a cheap alternative to gas.
I have just done a new video today , a more accurate measurement. It's a test using exactly one litre of fuel , with the hater flat out . Will upload later today...
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC great, I will be watching that for sure

you can buy as little as 1 litre from them
That ticking sound, is that the sound the heater makes?
We are looking for a heater in our little van for fishing.
No it's the pump .. but in your van you would run the heater on low so the ticking would slow down... its annoying for some people... you can fit the pump outside the van if you want....
Newer unity’s the pump can be heard. It was $89 for the whole thing.
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC I would agree 100% how ever you can purchase a hardplastic case for the pump as we did.
Nearly killed myself with one of these things,
Had it up and running no problem,
Good little heater , warmed my shed up no problems,
Then I decided to move it ,
the exhaust has a small "silencer " on the end of it , which had become stuck ,
So I fed it through the wall from outside, to its new position.
Then decided to finish the job next day as it was getting cold and late.
Id actually reattached it to the heater , but forgotten to tighten up the clip to hold it on!
So the inevitable happened,
The pipe vibrated loose , and i was breathing carbon monoxide for the next two weeks ,
(My fault ,not the heaters),
No cure for stupid!
Went to bed one night in January, and had a massive fit in my sleep,
Was blue lighted to hospital, anyway, just a heads up ,
Keep an eye on the exhaust,
BTW , ive since been diagnosed with epilepsy,
Oh my got mate , your lucky to be Alive, I will get some detectors fitted .thanks for the warning....
diesel exhaust gases are primarily composed of CO2, H2O so when it in burning process it would only produce carbon dioxide and not carbon monoxide

What would be the best way to run it off mains electric rather than a battery ??
a good 12volt battery is great to run it no problem.. mains is to high a voltage unless you have a reducer or 12 volt power pack , but in a van its got to be 12 volts

@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC ,,, Researching these and having a 8K one. It looks like buying a 5K heater for $100 on Ebay is the best deal. My understanding is the only difference between the 5K and the 8K is the programing. The pump pulses can be increased if one learns how to get into the programming. I may buy one while they are that cheap because these little heaters are just great and having an extra may be wise.

Try burning Kerosene instead of diesel if you consistently run it on low. Less carbon and cleaner burning. I have only run 5-10 gallons of Kerosene through mine so far, and it loves it.
@@scootervette1975 i now use Kerosine
Hi Guys we always add and use ( DIPETANE) In the fuel and don't be afraid to add extra, regards soot well again run your heater say around 35c for about an hour ( Steady Voltage Is Very Important) and that should clear the soot up but as stated above pour in Dipetane before running the engine if your fuel is coming from the main vehicle fuel tank or if your have a fitted plastic tank be generous with Dipetane as you will not cause any damage to the burner but I can't stress this enough run the heater at maxum temperature for no less than 1 hour even if that means opening a door or windows but as I have stated before avoid supermarket fuels. We have been installing diesel and yes petrol heaters for some years now and we have picked up a few tricks and yes we have a heater 20 years old and yes we have changed a few glow plugs in our time and you should as a rule get around 7,000 hours plus with a decent glow plug and remember to check the wire mesh in the bore hole of the glow plug. Added note: Steady Voltage is VERY IMPORTANT with any fuel heater but more so if your using Diesel but if your using a plastic header tank use heating oil less soot and better heating output etc in passing use the air intake and make sure the filter is fitted on that in take pipe more so if you fit the intake pipe say under your vehicle as the intake can draw in dirt and road dust or in the winter it can draw in road salt partials and road spray etc. In passing Dipetane is great for cleaning out your injection pump and injectors etc WARNING do not use home heating oil to run any diesel engine. We hope the few tips we have posted help:)
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC I would try Dipetane first and be very generous with the Dipetane as we had that problem and after adding extra Dipetane the problem ceased. In short use a decent fuel we have over 30 years experience working with different heaters including the electrical heating type but I won't recommend any make or model as I will state the Electrical heating type just love the batteries lol but do give out fast heat. Please note we don't sell them or service them other than our own fleet. PS all our ambulances are kept on charge when not in use as that prolongs the battery life and will save wear and tear on your alternator. Help tip we have found, starting your engine for say 5 minutes (Winter)
making sure your charging light is out and start up your heater as some heaters can take as much as 12amps plus to ignite the heater and all our heaters use around 3amps there after depending on the KW heater output.
Soot or heavy/black smoke from the exhaust from your Vehicle engine with big mileage so we cured that problem (1 don't use cheap diesel fuel) 2 ( Add Dipetane before you re fuel as it will mix much better with your fuel at the pumps. Those who use a header plastic tank find an old say gallon container add the Dipetane first then your fuel and that should mix it up well as we have portable generators and we carry that out as your did many years ago if you had a 2 stoke engine.. I know a guy a whiz kid in fact who takes out the injectors and pours Dipetane raw directly into the engine cylinders and leaves it over night to soak in and yes it works well but stand back for all the crap that will come out of the exhaust :) NOTE do not put your hand over the end of the exhaust or your face ( Health & Safety) WARNING avoid using Easy Start on any heater !!! Passing note if we can help re heaters feel free to drop us a line and we will do our utmost to give you advice but not a cure lol. Don't use the like of Halfords or Supermarket fuel cleaners etc cheap and rubbish but each to their own choice. Batteries / Leisure batteries : Try and fit a battery no less than 100 amp hours plus and yes lead acid leisure batteries will be fine but charge them up once a week or them like wise. more so in the winter. Summer Note: If you can run your heater once a month in the summer for around 10 mins 35c as that will keep it in top condition that is why I stated fit the air in take filter due to road dust etc and of course from time to time add a little fuel cleaner of your choice but as stated above we will stick with Dipetane as it does what it says on the bottle.
if you allow a 2 quid a day for heating its only 60 quid a month in winter.not bad.how does gas work out at for cooking 2 meals a day with the oven on i wonder..them heaters are getting better i believe..
i think on medium heat 2 quid a day is easy enough

I would say 3/4 of a UK gallon per 24 hours ... about 4 litres...

Can you use heating oil
Yes you can ..
Can these be run on Kerosine
I gave never tried it but have heard they do.i will have to research that one ..
I have the red 5kw all in one unit and I learned from John McK 47 who made 20 videos as an Australian engineer about these little beauties, that each pulse from the pump injects 0.02 ml of diesel
So here are the maths...
Fuel usage
H1 2.0/sec = 120/min = 144 ml/h
H2 2.6/sec = 156/min = 187 ml/h
H3 3.4/sec = 204/min = 245 ml/h
H4 4.0/sec = 240/min = 288 ml/h
H5 5.0/sec = 300/min = 360 ml/h
I'm happy with that....

you got to use clean fuel, on-road diesel. off-road has an additive that will coat the interior of the fire box with a hard film that is really hard to remove.
Been using g red for years , no problems ..
where can I get red diesel from in small amout
I get it from my local BP garage at the pump ..
Google " gas oil " and not red diesel that's what I did and found out my local BP sells it at the pump
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC thought only farmers could use red deisel
Try to Google Gas oil . you might find a BP near you that sells it at the pump
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC some gulf fuel station sell red diesal at the pump to

I saw $4.12 diesel yesterday in north Louisiana

What's a Pence ?
One penny
Turn down your pump frequency to 1.4 the lowest. I hear yours going rather fast.
Got it down to 1.2 , cheers ....
Van sold now ....
Webasto Heater?
This is just a cheap one . Not Webasto
where u buy red diesel by the gallon
All over the country... just Google gas oil...
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC ok heating oil
A hell of a lot now.
too right very expensive
I would like a cost comparison with LPG.
Me too . Sorry can't help there ..
I can tell you now, Diesel heaters are cheaper to run.
5kw alde heater can use 3 13kg gas bottles in a week. That is £90 to £120 under hard continuous use.
@@Jack-tx2ve I agree , much cheaper....
It sounds expensive in the long run. Many people will suffer this winter because of fuel costs.
I agree . Fuel costs are ridiculous, some people are struggling because of this fuel price hike
If it is a 5kw it should run 8 hours on Low at 1.6hz . .022 x 1.6 x 60 X 60
My inaccurate method worked out at 6 hours . The way I measured the litre was a bit of I guess..
You can't buy red diesel now though and pump price is £1.89 ish per litre
I bought red diesel today mate from the BP Durham road in stockton on tees 1.35 a litre..
You have to fill a form in saying its for heating..
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC ah that's good I was under the impression you could only buy it for boats. I was watching as I am looking at all I can the provide heating for the house that's cheaper than running the gass boiler.
@@goysb4jays566 I HAVE JUST FOUND SOME OLD DIESEL FROM AROUND 6 MONTHS AGO AND ITS USELESS ALL DIRTY AND SLUDGY ,,,SO YOUR RIGHT

Which heater is this? I have been looking for a good heater for off grid home that has a wood stove while I am there but I need a heater for when I am not there.
Its just the 100 quid Chinese diesel heater from ebay..
Id like to see the same test at max and also how many BTU are claimed to actual
New van coming soon so will be doing a more accurate test
Obvs running it at low will clot it up over time.
Just blast it once a week on high for a little twhile and it should be OK... I've had no problems...
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC yeah good stuff, glad it's working for you.
It's now October of 2022. Diesel in Cali is $7 and there's a shortage of it in the east coast. There's only 25 days supply unless they figure something out, and even then, it'll be expensive just like how they planned it.
7 doller .... wow your lucky its double that here .. Almost 2 pound a litre... rip of...
look into black diesel
I just filled up a 5 gallons jug of diesel, and don't even own a diesel, for barter when everything hits the fan.
@@gsp49
What is the shelf life of diesel?
The price of diesel is coming down here and has dropped over 40 cents a gallon in the last few weeks. We buy heating oil at the pump that we don’t have to pay road tax on. We heat 572 sq ft house and it’s full basement with less than 200 gallons a winter.
Why not just empty the tank and put 1 L diesel in
Not as easy as that draining the tank, can get messy.. plus I couldn't be arsed.
It's not really an accurate test because if your doors & windows were closed it will use a lot less fuel because the thermostat would turn the heater off when the van reached the set temperature & come back on again when the van cooled down.
Apparently the doors were closed ....
correct
yep thats right mate
yes all doors are closed
A lot because prices are through the roof
Yeah it's ridiculous the prices
Your markings are miles off. You ignored the dimple in the tank meaning it actually used less than 1/4 of a litre.
Yes I've been told a few times , I will redo some time soon
It had the dimple before and after so he's right
@@steveffuksake I have redone the test in my latest video ..thanks for defending me ....
Volume is too low!
I've just watched from another computer and no problem.
Sound is ok..
Are you sure its not at your end . 75000 view and your the only one to say that.
@@VANFLIPPINGTASTIC It wasn't yer accent afteral...it was my worthless tablet hahaha. Cain't wait ta recieve my new diesel heater. Cuddling with a Sasquatchess is getting really old. Sasquatch 💩soap is not 'cheamp'. lol
It's very noisy
only from the back of the van ... not too bad from the inside
The math is: pump is .02 x [ pulse rate ] 1.2 let’s say x 60 x 60 = 86.4 / liters of the tank 10 = 8.64 / 2 meaning about 4 days of run time with the pulse rate at 1.2
YOU LOST ME AT " THE MATH IS " ha ha
Theoretical run time
---------------------------------
Pump pulse rate 0.02 mL
Pump flow 1.2
Diesel used per hour is :-
0.02 * 1.2 * 60 (s) * 60 (mins )
=
86.4mL
Tank holds 10 litres (10,000mL)
10,000 / 86.4 = 115 hours run time.
* But this doesn't account for more fuel being used on startup etc. 250mL over 90 minutes is a bit high so your pump rate must be higher than a pump rate of 1.2 clicks per second.
@@PatrickTimmins pump rate was just example. You can change the pump rate that you desire. Your math is correct now divide 24 into 115 it will be 4.7 days round down to 4 for simplification! Your answer is exactly what mine is.
@@PatrickTimmins i think its 1.6 clicks / second
It'll burn gallon of diesel 22 hours 🤔
Us gallon or UK gallon
How old is this vid. A £1 a ltr more like £1.46/ £1.50 nov 2022
This is 6 month old. It was 1 pound for red back then ... its 1.35 for red today .. notvto bad compared to 186 for white ..
Have a look at my latest video .it's up to date with the prices
Waste of time. If you are going to measure something, measure it correctly. A rough idea is not helpful.
Cheers ... loads of nice comment saying it was helpful. Have a nice day..
Probably makes a difference with a 2KW compared to a 5KW? That would be a fun study as well!
yes , will be a lot cheaper to run .
Depending on the size of the van or in our case the ambulance we always fit the 5KW.
the 5kw honestly burns not a lot of fuel if it's on low and it's more versatile as you can use it for bigger spaces. Large van or rv = 5kw, small bedroom (and I mean small) 2kw is fine or a car, suv, or van 2kw is also fine. Overall I recommend 5 though unless you're living permanently in a tiny car.
