This is a gem of a series. It is has all the right combination of humor, romance, tragedy, loyalty, friendship, philosophy, virtuous living. All the characters are vividly portrayed with each character having his/her own unique identity. Even the side characters are so wonderful and amazing in their own way. Liu Qui, Yang Xu Chen, Yang Bing Zhu pefectly project their respective characters in such a way that you can pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. Even Ruthless as played by Wei Xiao Dong, makes waves as he flawlessly transforms from a deadly assassin to a wizened pharmacist. As for Guo Jun Chen, he really makes his character stand out with his arrogance and conceit. One cannot help but admire him and be amused by his character! Lin Nuo is the perfect foil for him, showing her character's wily and intelligent persona. All in all, this is such an amazing series. Kudos to the director who manages to draw out distinct personalities from each character! He should be given a Best Director Award for this! And the actors/actresses should receive Acting Awards as an Ensemble! They all portrayed their parts so magnificently!

The lead reminds me somewhat of Xu Feng (Deng Lun) in Ashes of Love. The hairstyle , the attitude(not quite that arrogant) and..........the ears. But hey, don't get me wrong. I swoon over Deng Lun now. When I first watched him I was stuck staring at his ears. But now totally used to them. The rest of him is great too.
