This scene really cemented my appreciation for Viserys as a character. Thank you Paddy Considine for giving an incredible performance.

Well, it wasn't madness but it wasn't greatness either. He was a tragic man, not one who was fit for the hard life of King.
Had he named his son Aegon ll Targaryen, Heir to the Throne, then this could've been largely avoided.

The fact that GRRM himself told Paddy that his Viserys portrayal was better than GRRM intended in the books speaks to his acting skill and naturalism.

From paddy, " From the moment she dies, so does Viserys. It was a love story. That’s the secret I carried with me. As sick as he gets, he never, himself, demands any cure. He quietly accepts his suffering, never forgiving himself for putting his beloved wife through such torture in her final moments. "
This cements the fact that everything he did for Rhaenyra, and the physical torture he suffered willingly, was his own pact for redemption. In hope that, once he found Aemma again, his martyrdoom would grant him her forgiveness. I also believe that Alicent and the offsprings he had with her weren't a choice made purely out of duty, but in hope of finding again the happiness he once had with Aemma (and maybe for his obsession with having a male son). But as more time passed, the more Viserys understood that what he once had he wouldn't be able to find again, ever.

That was the moment Viserys became my favorite character alongside Daemon
When viserys stumbled and daemon was the one to help him it legit almost made me cry because despite everything daemon always stood by his brother.

@Euron D. Greyjoy Not true. Daemon coming up to help him was scripted, only the detail of the crown falling off was something that happened once by accident and they decided to incorporate it into all subsequent takes.
No. Vyserys always stood by his brother who, finally, managed to help him back. Remember the banquet in the city and mockery of his dead newborn or bringing rhaenyra to a brothel. Deamon was ALWAYS a terrible brother but finally managed in the very end to be the hand his brother and king needed.
Here is a personal analysis i read from someone, made me really admire daemon. The show didnt show that daemon was backing viserys to be king against their cousin.
so he is saying that every time daemon has that look of sorrow when looking at viserys in the episode could be because daemon somewhat responsible for condeming his own brother to a death of a thousand cuts.
@@tareqalmutawa9670 Except it was one cut. The infection spread through his body; the sores and his flesh rotting was due to the leprosy. He wasn't being cut over and over again.
I never thought I'd love King Viserys as much as I did in this show. Thanks to Paddy Considine for his outstanding performances, dude nailed his role. Hail King Viserys First of His Name 👑

Paddy Considine deserves all the accolades. That walk is like the arrival of the king in episode one of GOT season 1 but sadder which this piece illustrates very well.

Right? If you told me that 4 minutes of a decaying guy hobbling across a room would be the most emotionally poignant moment, I'd have laughed
This song skyrocketed the scene into the stratosphere! The feeling of majesty combined with a bitter and tragic feeling. It shows Viserys truly had the potential to be great if fate was kinder to him.
Well he was Great. Truly. Jahaerys was a tough, tough act to follow. But he did a great job in his reign. Despite the circumstances of his House.

he was no where near as smart as Jahaerys, Jahaerys was easily the smartest king ever to live, think tywin lannister times 3 and much less cruel!
He coulve prevented the dance if he called the council to decide (just like jaeharys I did during his succession between viserys & rhaenys). But then he didnt want to betray rhaenyra 😭

The melancholic and triumphant return of the "royal motiff", first heard all the way back when Robert visited Winterfell, at Joffrey and Tommen's coronations and when Daenerys and her armies arrived in the North. Now, Ramin brilliantly revisits this theme to highlight Viserys and his last stand, masterful performance by Paddy Considine!
It was in the beginning of the show too. During jaeharys’ great council. When he proclaims viserys as prince of dragonstone and heir to the iron throne.

I'm not a music expert but I feel there is a connection to the targaryen theme and actually hear similar instruments he used in the iron throne when dany died.

The kingly theme beautifully interwoven with the Targaryen motiff.
Just a reminder everyone that the composer for both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon was once an errand boy for none other than Han Zimmer himself. And Ramin got his moment to shine during Pirates of the Caribbean when he composed the music for the first duel between Will Turner and Jack Sparrow.

Ramin Djawadi is the Varys of composers. Though unseen, his influence is felt everywhere, and he works only for the betterment of the realm as a whole.
Outstanding performance by Viserys actor Paddy. Seeing Viserys entering the throne room brought me tears. Viserys proved he is still the dragon and the flame is still reside in him .
The music that kicked in 54’, how it started as a happy music just to slow down and become tragic merging with Viserys sad scene.. My body couldn’t stop having goosebumps, this music took me somewhere and I’ll never comeback again
from 54:30 to 56:20, the music is so beautiful and paddy just acts so incredibly well, his eye, all the feelings, and the camera is so well placed on every shot, it's masterfull, the look on deamon... lost my dad 3 months ago, and the scene just transports me to where I don't allow myself to go... that episode is just incredible, forever in my heart, King Viserys

When the king entered the throne room, a chic melody sounded. Even got goosebumps.
This was the best episode of the season by far. Beautifully done.
I love the call back to this during the banquet where Viserys admires his family. A man of honour and love, who was betrayed by almost everyone close to him and yet he forgave them. GOAT.
2:17 is where Daemon helps him to the throne. A very touching scene. The start of things and the years passing by makes it feel like its been forever.
"I think peace is more valuable than a song, your grace. And how many have gone into that crucible you speak of, and wished they never had." (paraphrasing)
The moment, courtiers announce the arrival... "King Viserys the first of his name, King of the Andals, Protector of the Realm"... a laboured yet a royal walk from an ailing King and everybody turning their heads around in surprise and awe of their majesty. Wow! Paddy Considine just stole the show with his acting and this music makes it more grandiose and regal. Hats off to the whole team of HOTD for making such an amazing episode.
You know it’s a banger when the most replayed part of the track, is the whole track.

The music is very carefully elaborated throughout the episode but especially the throne scene and the dinner scene. In both scenes the music is sublime. For me one of the best works of Djawadi.
The best entrance for a character in the whole series. The soundtrack is brilliant alongside the cinematography and acting from Paddy that turns a stumbling walk into an epic moment.
Just what the fans needed.
Paddy Considine was so great. He made Viserys so memorable, I felt like I wanted to meet this dude to sit down and talk about history for hours. Even the little scenes when he was flashing a smile to everyone to gloss over uncomfortable moments were so real.
I hope he gets an Award for his role. I am not that attentive to actors, neither positively nor negatively but he was just outstanding!
Simply sublime and beautiful while being also a mix of tragic and hopeful at once.
Its not over the top or over doing it. Looking forward to hearing the whole score.

This scene made me realize how much I liked Viserys and respected him as king. We’ve come a long way with him since this show started.
This beautiful haunting piece perfectly describes a dying father's last walk to the throne to save his beloved daughter. He was in excruciating unbearable pain, and with all the strength he could muster, he trudged on, to do his beloved's bidding for the last time. Majestic, tragic, and heart-wrenching.

@@franzt8955 No. He is only cut by the throne once, that we see. What happens to him is from leprosy. Once you're infected, no injuries are required for you to suffer infections of your skin, organs, and bones.

Yess a new track!! And it’s one of my favorite moments in the show.
This composition really encapsulates the feeling of an old dragon on its last flight. It's so majestic yet bittersweet, and once again Ramin Djawadi has done his job well.

love that Viserys showed up for his daughter. He really loved Rhaenyra and he did this FOR HER. He showed up FOR HER. He set things right(or tried to) FOR HER. He was a wonderful father and I was so very sad that we won’t get to see more of him because I really enjoyed watching him.
2:17 a dying sun, struggling, but determined to shine… one last time.
They went on to make an show about a great epic war with lots of great dragon and dragonriders killing each other on land, sea and the sky, great armies and all....And I wouldn't be surprised if this remained as one of the greatest and most epic scene in the entire show. A decrept old man struggling to walk 30 meters and sit. Both heartbreaking and heartforging.
The way the notes are dragged, the sudden jumps. This song is straight up the auditive description of Viserys effort to be, one last time, the protector of the realm.
Im still crying.

It really captures the tragic truth of the doomed king, arisen one last time to unite the realm.

I knew Ramin's soundtrack for HotD would be a masterpiece, like GoTs, but i never expected this or how amazing the writing or acting in the show would be. The king lietmotif from GoTs, followed by the softer music after Daemon helps Viserys is astounding

Filled with tragic majesty and the weight of the burden that is the Iron Throne.
The music , costumes and acting is actually epic.
