GRRM said: ''They wrote king Viserys on the show so well that is better than my book version''. NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY HE SAID THAT.
A literal crime he didn’t win any acting nominations for awards 😢
George himself didn't do much with him, to be fair. It does make a ton of sense that they'd wanna endear him to us a lot harder in this first season to sell the tragedy of this familial conflict before it even really becomes bloody.
Perfectly cast him and daemon
They made a slow walk of a sick old man more exciting and epic than most movie scenes these days. Truly amazing cinema, can't wait to see how the whole show turns out.
10 times slower but 100 times more epic than any WWE entrance that I can remember
This scene alone is better than all the episodes of Rings of Power.
hes not even all that old, its just leprosy
the slow walk was better than got s8

He just have shown that he deserved a king's name, all who thought of him as weak got mouths shut.
@seph3803that is fucking brilliant never thought of it that way. Even tho it’s referred to as dragons. Sometimes you just don’t even notice

While also being the reason people are divided
@@chrisryan1501 I agree. He divided the Kingdom with only the intention to make his daughter happy.
@@zachv465 Well no, it was because he thought Daemon wouldn't be fit to rule, like he said he "didn't name Rhaenyra heir on a whim".
@@LaurusHG He admitted that he once had reservations about making her claim, and that he did it because of daemon mostly. But he retracts this in episode 3, where he says that was not the reason after all. Because if that was the case, he could have easily given it to Aegon after. And I think you misinterpreted that scene.

ALL STAND FOR KING BADASS!
This scene makes me cry every time I watch it. Tears of sadness mixed with tears of joy because he came to back his “only child”. The entrance was so powerful, the music, the walk to the throne, his brother helping him. KING VISERYS OF HOUSE TARGARYEN

KING OF THE ANDALS, THE RHOYNAR, AND THE FIRST MEN.
LORD OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS.

@@Oakland510 and the GREATEST BADASS WITH A HEART OF GOLD!!
When he looks at Rhaenyra and the music goes up again as he sees his will to keep fighting.
"Any man who must say I am the king is no true king", I have never felt the weight of The King of the Iron Throne as much as in this scene, he imposes power and respect, way more than any dialogue or army we have seen
An imperfect ruler to be sure, and probably not suited to be king. Which makes this a tragicly beutifull scene for a tragicly beutifull man. Viserys knows he could die at any moment and is hanging on through sheer willpower. After Rhaenyra pleads for him to support her, Viserys makes a final decision as king to reaffirm his support for his daughter and her children. He knows Rhaenyras children are not born from her marrige, everyone knows yet nobody dares speak the truth of it - but he doesnt care. Because they are still his blood. So he makes the long walk to the ugly iron throne that is the cause of his physical state in a last attempt at preventing conflict. Because he cannot bear the thought of the family that he loves so much being fractured and turning on each other. He ultimatly fails in this as well, for while he truly loves all his family, Rhaenyra is the daughter of Aemma - the love of his life. Of course he is going to be partial to her. So in the end he makes the walk throguh pain and suffering for her and her alone. It is tragic and majestic and beutiful.
Viserys once wondered what the histories would say of him- he neither conquered, strengthened the corwns authority nor suffered any defeats in war. In the end the histories will speak of a complex man who failed in his kingship because he was too good for the world he existed in. Love is the death of duty, and King Viserys deep rooted love for his family made him unable to act in time and quell the conflict within it. A tragic majesty indeed.
Edit: I come back to this 4 months later and still wonder why I wrote a semi-euolgy for a fictional character when i didn´t plan to. Just the magic of the show and the music I guess. Anyway, see you in a couple of years.
Visarys is probably the most tragic character in all of got like seriously , having to carry the best kings legacy on his back while dealing with endless scandals and conflict with his family while falling apart slowly in a desperate attempt to keep his family together all for it to not matter in the end his efforts where in vain house targaryen destroyed themselves and near wiped eachother out , all except 2 of his grandsons died tragic horrible deaths in a pointless civil war the dragons die out making them weaker then they've ever been and the most damning off all is his daughter the girl he fought so hard for is only queen for half a year loses nearly her entire family, ends up hated by half the realm and worst off all is killed horribly by his own son while his grandson watched and is never recognized as queen officially , I never thought we could find a more tragic family then the starks but holy shit the house targaryen during this time period is so Damn tragic and it doesn't get better.
I am not sure why viewers keep calling him a shit king. I mean as a king for Westeros, dude kept things mostly peaceful like Jaehaerys. Isn’t this also mentioned by Otto in this very episode?
@@saadafzal7794 it's honestly not hard to keep peace when you have 20 dragons under your control , I agree that he's not a shit king but he could have been significantly better.
A weak king but a good man
He is well suited for a king. But not a great visionary.
If I was in Viserys place I would've made Rhaenyra Mistress of whispers, Mistress of coin, Mistress of Law etc for a 10 year period. With this at least Rhaenyra and Viserys had reason to tell that Rhaenyra can be a good administrator. Also engage one of Rhaenyras son to Martell princess.
"There comes a time when the jewels cease to sparkle..when the gold loses its luster..when the throne room becomes a prison..and the only thing left is a father's love for his daughter."
King Osric,
"Conan the Barbarian"
Best scene ever. I cried, the director said that Matt Smith and Paddy improvised at the scene, matt wasn't supposed to have picked up the crown from the floor and not put it on viserys' head.
Considering there's a crowning scene in the final episode it was hardly original thinking. But attention seeking actors like to steal attention
King Viserys walks towards the Iron Throne one last time...
Ramin Djawadi lights the piano with dragonfire
Some may say love is a weakness, but no other thing on this earth could inspire this level of strength.
The power of music.... imagine this scene with only sound design and it tells a whole different story... chills!!
Can we please have the theme that was playing during the dinner scene. That scene made me tear up and cry because all the poor dying King wants his family to be united and the House of the Dragon to stand united and glorious for the next 100 years.
Working on it!
*give that man an Emmy*
To me this was one of or even the most courageous moments of the all series. This scene showed respect, power, and true "Fire and Blood" from King Viserys I.
Also a little tear for my favourite character Daemon, for helping his brother in the final steps. Awesome moment. ❤️
THAT WAS AN IMPROV MOVE ON MATT SMITH'S PART THAT IS WHAT MADE THAT SCENE EPIC BECAUSE PADDY PLAYED RIGHT ALONG WITH HIM
In my opinion this scene cemented Viserys as one of the top got characters of all time for me and this scene one of the best with it too haven't teared up for got since the red wedding wow give Paddy and Ramin their emmys now .
The look of Raenhyra feeling protected, Daemon making peace with Viserys and the soundtrack...the freaking soundtrack!!!!

What makes Viserys even more badass is that he is in such indescribable pain, due to his leprocy, his bones and muscles decayed, still came to defend his child.
When his crown fall off and his brother pick it up whispering “come on “

All the Emmys. Now.
Renera asked a dying old man for help... a king answered
I can't picture any possible scene in television history more epic than seeing King Viserys walk into the throne room, dying and in agonizing pain, dripped out in gold mask and crown, to protect his daughter the one time after all the other times he didn't. I'd die for this man, no matter the cost.
The dragon came to roar one last time, to protect his wyrm-daughter.
The actor deserves all the greatest awards and titles that can be awarded for such powerful performance.

@@rocketbird1 yea exactly. So Viserys isn’t as old as he looks. He’s just not healthy.
Ramin is a genius, 1:47 is a call back to the Baratheon theme.....'The Kings Arrival'. Its honestly breathtaking.
I noticed that too the whole song has a similar theme as that just much darker and more majestic it’s insane
while we endear ourselves to the witty banter of tyrion, riveted at our seat with sheer intimidating cunning that was commanded by tywin, respect the nobility shown by ned and laugh at the comedic oneliners by robert, nothing comes close to the raw admiration and tragic sorrow we collectively feel at viserys in this scene alone.
Therefore it is not a stretch to commend Paddy Considine's mastercraft of acting to not only be one of the finest in the pantheon of a franchise chock full of amazing talents but readily surpass them all with this superlative portrayal of this most excellent character.
King Viserys of House Targaryen, the first of his name. King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm!!!
Thank you, Paddy Considine for a fantastic performance. You will be missed

All that needs be done now is to hand him awards! And I mean ALOT of those, the prestigious ones! He deserves them all!!!
He's the truest protector of the realm, none of his children deserve him!
Look at the determination burning in his eye, not even Vhagar could stop him from getting to that damn throne, love him and I'll miss him. It won't be the same without Viserys.❤️
That scene was pure art
I cried during this scene 😭, and i havent cried since the Red Wedding scene. Paddy deserves all the praise, the make up team did amazing job, and of course Ramin 👏👏

@@joeybutanda1959 The way he looked at R ( Emma’s face 😭) and Deamon picking crown was what fully destroyed me ☹️.
red wedding? It was nowhere near for me. In GOT what got me - Oberyn declaring to be a champion for Tyrion and scene in the woods after Ned death. Probably there are few more really strong like funeral of Ygritte, but red wedding was just carnage and action.
@@ANA-il6js85 got me right in the feels!!
@@Atomus87 Michele’s performance, hers “let him go”, Rob saying “Mother”, her final scream and end credits without music is all that made me cry. But yes, her walk after Neds death and Rob kicking his sword was also emotional. I was sad every time Stark theme was in GOT 🤣.
Viserys was a weak but good king. He loved his family more than anything, especially Rhaenyra and wanted to make things right for her. He stood up for her until his last moment. I shed some tears for him this episode.
A father ready to do anything for his child.
The scene and the music was epic. But most of all, Daemon helping him was beautiful. Two brothers who despite their differences loves each other deeply.
RIP the king. He will be misses.
Now war will come and i stand with team Black!
The whole "weak king" is a bit unfair. He stood his ground in a lot of matters and he kept the golden years of his grandfather going. If he was truly weak he would had some rebelions or a dornish war to fight but he was well loved by lords and smallfolk. Most probably living during Jaehaerys and Viserys reign in Westeros was the only time that people were happy and untroubled.
@@vaggelhsalexandropoulos3679 aegon3 and visery2 were better kings
Give him the fucking Emmy, god damn it.
Anyone who has lost a family member to sickness will recognise all the behaviours, the performance cut deeply close to home for me.
This is what I prayed The Rings of Power would be
My man turned into a ds3 boss with that entrance
Easily my favourite OST and favourite scene in the entire GoT universe. Outstanding.
“I will sit the throne today.”
A father who always stands by his dear baby girl and supports her no matter what... I want to be a father like him to my daughter.
When you watch this, you can't help be captivated by it, goosebumps are sent all across your body, the tone, the atmosphere, the music.....it makes for one majestic scene. One of the greatest moments in television history. One hell of a performance by Paddy Considine.
I tip my hat off to you.
If any other parts of the soundtrack sound average or underdeveloped, that’s only because Ramin had to devote all his time and energy into making sure Viserys crossing the throne room sounded as epic and heartfelt as was humanly possible.
3 minutes of an old man struggling to walk through a hall not to his throne but towards his daughter were way much more dramatic than 10 hours of Rings of Power. That scene was a masterpiece.
I hope RoP writers took notes from HotD on how good writing looks like.
I dont remember when I the last time felt this sorry for a tv show or movie character. The poor guy suffered so much 😪
Edit: you have a great ear for music.
I feel like Ramin Djawadi’s music hasn’t really had the chance to stick out like it did in GoT until this moment. This song made the scene along with Paddy’s acting
Viserys turned into a Dark Souls boss. god damn this scene was good
made me tear up when he walked into the room. he knew it was the last time he would sit the iron throne.
Powerful scene and incredible acting..
Such an emotional moment. Truly a masterpiece!
This scene > LOTR full serial
Now this is what a king truly is. Beign at he's weakest but strongest at the same time.
This one scene is better than all of Ring of Power
Thank you for giving us house of the dragon, the redemption of game of thrones. And Ramin is a freaking genius composer
Viserys wasn't weak. He just had weaknesses as every powerful man: his love for Rhaenyra, his misunderstanding of Daemon, his longing for peace, his knowledge of Aegon's dream... Thus, he could not just rule and do whatever he wanted or what ordinary kings would do. Nobody understood this, neither his queen nor his own blood. They all misunderstood him and he still did what he deemed necessary. Truly tragic and heroic.
The most badass walk of all time!
Rest easy my king 👑💔
Only at the end of his life Viserys began to look like a real king
When he was at his weakest, he was at his strongest
He ruled with excellence for the first 10 years of his kingship before Aemma died and he started to get sick.
The greatness of this epic cover of this song is unable to be expressed with words. I fricking love it with every fiber of my being.
And the dragon came, with one last roar to give.

Targaryen's boss music to the last big entrance of the most humanitic King of Westeros
The most beautiful and epic moment of this series. And even of all GOT! I had chills!
In the absolute brink of death from Leprosy, he comes in like a straight fuckin baller to keep a promise.

Love that this is essentially a Targaryen remix of the Baratheon theme from GoT season 1!
I think it’s not a Baratheon theme. It’s just the King’s theme. I remember in season 1 of GOT this theme is called Kings Road or something similar
This version is truly epic. Would it be possible for you to release this on spotify ??? There are a few versions of this already there but this is by far the best imho.
I love the king and his brother. It's insane how the brother stands by him through thick and thin.
This show and it's sound track have been epic.

Thank you for putting this up, it was killing me not knowing the name of the song
It really has the feel of I may not have much time left but I’m not done yet.
Viserys is truly a tragic character. A good guy who wanted everyone to get along.
This scene, of king Viserys Targaryen entering the throne room, is better than the last three seasons of Game of Thrones in so many levels.
This was such an amazing 'last stand' moment. I can't remember the last time a show made me start crying like this scene did. To watch him will himself out of his deathbed onto the throne one last time for his little girl...it was just heartrending. Excellent job on your version of the theme!
