I don't like Aegon II but I got to admit I respect when he was a child. I can't believe a kid would go outside his castle just so he can persuade a dragon and not just a dragon. It's Vhagar too! We've all heard Balerion is a legend dragon which makes him ancient but it's even better for Aegon II because Vhagar was the second oldest. And make no mistake for dragons "oldest" means they are more experienced in battle and that shows when Vhagar DESPITE HIS SIZE he hid in the cloud and attacked Lucerys and his dragon. I feel so sad for Lucerys but being that big and you can hide like that? HELL NAHHH

@@ahmetcaglarkolay2176They grow largely in relation to the freedom they are given. Drogon is still young by the end of GoT, and flies off alone into the wilderness
Fun fact: While all three of the dragons from the Conquest were alive (Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar), Vhagar was the smallest of the three. Obviously she was still a giant and she’s grown a good bit since then but if Meraxes had lived to that old age she likely would’ve been bigger than Vhagar, and of course Balerion was the largest of all… They were huge 😂
Meraxes was only bigger because she was older, At the time of vhagars death she was almost as big as balerion and she was still around 20 years younger then the age balerion died at
Balerion was 200 years old. Vhager lived to 182 years old. Meraxes was 98 to 120 years old. Vhagar is the only dragon described by historical sources as grown almost as big as Balerion, and Meraxes died at least several decades younger than Vhagar. "Vhagar had reached a size slightly smaller than that of Balerion, died at least at 207, the largest of the Targaryen dragons since Aegon's Conquest". There's no similar notes on size for Meraxes. The only person saying that Meraxes could swallow horses, is Tyrion. Who, quite notably, was not around to see her. So...MAYBE if meraxes lived, she could be the largest. But it's speculation. The fact that vhager got so close to the absolute largest is still noteworthy.
yes, i feel they only did justice to vhagars wings, they gave her massive wings, rest all of the dragons shown in GOT and HOTD have kinda small wings in proportion to thier body
And still not big enough. For comparison : in order to lift up just a person weighing ≈75kg, we would have to grow wings of 3m each (i.e. a total of 6m. This is the height of a two-storey house, if anything). Just A PERSON. In order to lift the Vhagar into the air, each of its wings should be 2 times larger. And at the same time, somehow not to break under your own weight and have muscles that can make THIS move fast enough (try lifting a 6m stick at the very end to understand how hard it is).
@@ЮраСидоров-т4эyeah but the can breathe fire probably have some organ besides their wings that can release hot gas to create more lift and once they are in the air it becomes easier
I always respected Aemon's claiming of Vaghar. He approached her, granted ANNOYED her a bit, but kept his authority strong and unwavering. He had nerve and she acknowledged it. And that's exactly what Laena tried telling her daughter, (I forgot which one), that you can't wait for a dragon to accept you, or hatch for you. Dragons have to be CLAIMED. If she wanted Vhagar, she should've claimed her. Yes, she was mourning her mother, and wasn't in that mindset to claim her deceased mother's also-mourning dragon. But Aemon was. A dragon isn't a seat reservation. He was tired of waiting around to become a dragon rider. He took it up on himself and was Greatly rewarded.
I think vhagar understood him aswell. Vhagar was alive to watch great masterminds at work as far as war goes. And Aemond is very smart (and dark) in that matter. I think in a way she chose him, both of them are a bit gruesome inside, they fit each other.
@@leonardohenrique5172 especially if he is aware of Aerea Targaryen (his grandfathers cousin) who proved unable to control Balerion when she tried to claim the Black Dread at age 12.
Vhagar perhaps wanted to go home and used this boy to get her there. Vhagar picked this boy as boy's normally don't die in childbirth. Vhagar claimed Aemon not the other way around.
I think it’s really cool how Aemond is dead ass just a little kid who claimed the biggest and baddest dragon in the world lol. It makes it more exciting for sure.
I think it also shows Aemond being scared when he only holds on with his hands. No doubt he will be tied into his seat for future flights, Daemon will thank him for that.
The scene where Vhagar was flying above Arrax is truly epic even the sound she made as she flies overhead is reminiscent to the sound of a B-52 made as she flew above the much smaller Arrax
What did Aemond expect would happen, a dragon bigger and older than all the rest that are alive would understand that he was toying with his nephew and didn't want to kill him?
That’s *exactly* what he thought would happen, yes. He overestimated his control of Vhagar, and severely misunderstood just how savage she actually is having come through a legitimate war. It just further cements that he’s rash & impetuous, and selfish before anything else.
All bets where off I think in Vhagar’s mind when Arrax in a panic hit her, she also fed off Aemond’s emotions some say so that to some is why she didn’t listen to Aemond that
Fair. He didn't rlly comprehend how the larger dragon could've panicked the tinier Arrax And how Arrax in a fight or flight situation just blew in the face of the much *much* larger Vhagar Yeah I'd be pissed too if someone blew a candle at my face
Ironically, she had done nothing to Arrax until they left. I mean drgaons are cannibals so she could've seen this silver guy as a potential food. But no, she had been just chilling under the rain.
Also interesting that Vhagar was perfectly happy to lay in the heavy rain until trouble showed up, showing the high intelligence and perception of the dragons.
It wasn’t till this show that I realized that Drogon was actually small compared to other dragons. Like he may have grown fast and will probably get way bigger, but even from his size in the final episode, he’s smaller than melys, caraxes, vermithor, and possibly seasmoke and vermax, with the closest being Syrax and vermax. And vahgar absolutely dwarfs him, showing how when it came to dragons it was only really his growth rate that made him special. Also when danaerys first flew on Drogon he was smaller than arrax
Vermithor > Caraxes > Meleys > Syrax > Seasmoke > Vermax > Drogon.... according to some chart. I can't see Vermax being bigger than Drogon though, not when Drogon was fully grown.

@@realdaggerman105 It's kind of obvious that they'll fight, though, they're literally on opposite sides of the war and the tension between Aemond and Daemon has been massive.
The one change is that I wish Laena and Vhagar had been part of the War of the Stepstones. Having her be the one to blast the troops around Daemon would have been a perfect first appearance for Vhagar, as well as displayed Laena’s skills as a fearless warrior and fleshed out her relationship with Daemon.
Meh, Laena wasn't very important to the story during that time. They did it right by giving it to Laenor because he's a big reason the war became inevitable as soon as Viserys passed. Him being a homosexual and shooting blanks is the reason Rhae had to go searching for a "Strong" donor meatsword.
Vhaegar is incredible but Caraxes is just such a unique dragon. The way he flies, the sounds he makes….a great screen representation of the blood wyrm.
Keep in mind that during the Conquest, Vhagar was the smallest of the 3. By the time of the Dance she grew to be almost the same size as Balerion himself, just slightly smaller still. Dragons will continue to grow as they age so long as they have food and are free. Seeing this shot 5:56 of her in Storm's End, one of the largest castles out there, really adds to the stories of Balerion's shadow engulfing entire towns as he flew over them. Then there was also Meraxes. She was bigger than Vhagar during the Conquest and if it weren't for her early death, she was said to have had the chance to grow bigger than Balerion even. Small wonder the Targaryens were able to conquer all of Westeros with them except for Dorne. Full props to the Dornish for their resistance and they were responsible for killing Meraxes and her rider Queen Rhaenys
and yet when Princess Aerea returned on Balerion …some THING had torn a 9 foot gash in his side…which makes you wonder if there were/are other dragons in Valyria

Imagine being a soldier and going to war knowing full well that a flying, fire breathing monster ad big as a castle may show up and kill you in a half dozen different ways and you have no defense against that
Vhagar is a war veteran. She always has the upper hand with her riders. Aemond is not as cruel as his brothers nor THAT cruel; we know he feels pain, he is aware of his feelings and that of others, he cares for the people he loves but he is also a tremendous fighter and most of all courageous. I think Vhagar tested him when they first met, felt he was worthy of her, and decided to make him her rider. It's all so complex but so interesting.
4:05 Vhagar was propably thinking "Calm down pipsqueak. When I was younger we did that every morning just to get our riders to wake up. Youngsters these days."
Kinda bothered me in this show is the air displacement isn't as well depicted as in earlier episodes of GoT, The wingbeats of a massive animal like Vaghar would produce winds of incredible force and huge amounts of air displacement, kicking up sand storms, causing wakes in water below her from the sheer size of her slipstream, people would get sent flying, the sheer wind pressure from her wingbeats would crash like thunder and pop ear drums Her size doesn't seem as believable or imposing without these details, Imagine the presence if this was effectively depicted?
See I believe it however this show really messes the scale up sometimes in some scenes she DEFINITELY looks that big like the scene of aemomd claiming her while others like leanas death and her flying vhgar she looks far snaller

Yeah, I have serious doubts that's more than just hype for publicity. 100m I could accept, but those proportions on screen don't look like 400' to me. I love how she tests Aemond to see if he’s capable and worthy of riding her - she doesn’t care if he lives or dies on her back, she would just return home without a second thought, and the fact he can hang on proves him to her.
What I feel is interesting is how Vhagar was with her two riders.Leana was his first( after the previous ones), and she had a clear bond, strong enough you see Vhagar hesitate and multiple times have Leana say Dracarys before doing so, and a thing to note is Vhagar stayed there, with the saddle on Leana on, which I see as it mourning her, and not wanting to leave where she died.Aemond gets her as a dragon sure, but you notice Vhagar is far less obedient to him then Leana. Maybe implying that Leana despite not being a Targaryen by blood, was more of a dragon then Aemond.Clear point is how Vhagar is extremely agressive towards Luke's dragon, despite Aemond clearly not wanting this.Vhagar is the last of the three dragons of the conquerer, the oldest, the most experienced and likely trained. But, as a result one has to be strong to tame her, and Aemond is not strong enough in mind to do so.
Not really, dragons feel their riders emotions so she could feel Aemond's anger, and Arrax attack made it worse. Even Daenerys had trouble with her dragons at some point.
a lot of people don't know this but Vhagar was one of the original 3 dragons that conquered Westeros. She flew alongside Balearian the black dread, the biggest dragon ever seen. If this is how big vhagar is, imagine how big Balearian was.

HELL NAHHH
Vhagar kind of is a special dragon for some fans. Her scenes give a kind of glimpse of Balerion the Dread over the course of his life and/or possibly Drogon’s future.
Edit: Unsurprisingly, this comment appears to have stirred up a war in the reply section

Meraxes was only bigger because she was older, At the time of vhagars death she was almost as big as balerion and she was still around 20 years younger then the age balerion died at
@@Brittallen16 Vhagar at the time of the dance was almost as big as Balerion during the conquest, Balerion was even larger when he died
@@Brittallen16 Meraxes was not as large as Balerion. She was large enough for a man astride his horse to run down her gullet.
@@blacktigerpaw1She could have been bigger if she lived as long. Vhagar would never have been bigger than maraxes.
They got that old granny look down properly for vhagar
anyone else appreciate that they gave appropriate wingspans to the dragons here?
yes, i feel they only did justice to vhagars wings, they gave her massive wings, rest all of the dragons shown in GOT and HOTD have kinda small wings in proportion to thier body
Yes. The span looks right. The width could be a bit more. But overall the size looks right.
@@ЮраСидоров-т4эyeah but the can breathe fire probably have some organ besides their wings that can release hot gas to create more lift and once they are in the air it becomes easier
It's cool how old Vhagar acts. Her roar is more of a angry growl, she has a wrinkly neck, and holes in her wings to show the damage she's been through
I always respected Aemon's claiming of Vaghar.
Exactly, gotta respect a 10 year old who's bold enough to claim the biggest dragon alive, that takes guts!
I think vhagar understood him aswell. Vhagar was alive to watch great masterminds at work as far as war goes. And Aemond is very smart (and dark) in that matter.

All I could think of watching that was holy crap, that thing'd be like trying to ride the windscreen of a B25 in a hurricane 😂
All bets where off I think in Vhagar’s mind when Arrax in a panic hit her, she also fed off Aemond’s emotions some say so that to some is why she didn’t listen to Aemond that
Fair. He didn't rlly comprehend how the larger dragon could've panicked the tinier Arrax

It wasn’t till this show that I realized that Drogon was actually small compared to other dragons.

4:16 Aemond nearly dying by bird strike is hilarious.
Kinda bothered me in this show is the air displacement isn't as well depicted as in earlier episodes of GoT,
The wingbeats of a massive animal like Vaghar would produce winds of incredible force and huge amounts of air displacement, kicking up sand storms, causing wakes in water below her from the sheer size of her slipstream, people would get sent flying, the sheer wind pressure from her wingbeats would crash like thunder and pop ear drums
Her size doesn't seem as believable or imposing without these details,
Imagine the presence if this was effectively depicted?
An old magician took care of that problem after the local folks complained about it

Lol. In the book he actually kills luc on purpose. No control of Vhagar? She is a vicious killer and bad tempered. That is why she chose Aemond.
Aemond is perfect for Vhagar. She became docile under Laena. He reawakened her true nature.
Not really, dragons feel their riders emotions so she could feel Aemond's anger, and Arrax attack made it worse.
