      Jack and Ollie are small but growing. They will need space. Same for guests on sea trials and short jaunts. Mom and dad need their quiet space. For and next 3-4 months, they are in a marina. Currently house sitting. Real fun once steel Melody is finished and sold. Then the focus is on Sailing Melody 🎶 new adventures. Adult comfort will be premium.

    Hi mate, prob too late but I'd think twice about epoxy on the sole boards. Super strong stuff for making boats etc and it'll look the dogs when its cured but... it will scratch easily.. I would consider linseed oil.... Absolutely marvellous stuff that lets wood get wet then lets it dry out again

    • @SailingMelody
      @SailingMelody  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think I'm going to use epoxy and then varnish over the top to protect it but we'll see :)

    It should be a criminal offense to trash old teak, so you do the only right thing to repair. I have used my old mother's teak garage door from 1960 aboard my 117-year-old Amanda af Egersund. Teak is absolutely wonderful wood, which deserves to live forever. Nice to follow you, and when you sail across the fjord (North Sea) to Norway, you are welcome to Egersund harbor and Amanda af Egersund.

My wife says that on her tombstone she wants "It's good to have goals". You had a good goal in terms of timeline, but you also have a higher goal to make your home one that you are proud of.

    Andy no apologies needed. You are doing a completely fantastic job refitting Melody. You are showing the real bits of making Melody a live in sail boat for the family. Your workmanship has been outstanding and at times you are" learning by doing". (which is the name of another sailing channel) That is a fantastic idea making that seating area larger and will look brilliant once Melissa makes up the cushions. The epoxy on the floors I am sure will look awesome, but even without the floors beautiful. Hopefully another video before or just after Christmas even if not from my family to yours Have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Years

    Wow, talk about a quality boat;. I knew Bowmans we're good but solid teak boards with holly strips! Imagine the replacement cost😮😮😮. I wince at the price of teak and holly plywood! All your efforts are SOOOO worth it. Modifying the seating in the saloon will be a winner as well; I filled in the upper "pipe berths" (literally!) on my Morgan 42 with cupboards and bookshelves. Much more useful and civilized!

    Seat back cupboards along with under bunk ones will always suffer from Damp unless the hull is insulated. I bet the Veneer at the ends of the under bunk ones are also delaminating. You have a solid glass hull which means the inside is a s cold as the outside therfore the only thing to do is insulate it at least up to the top of the seat back cupboards. it will also help keep the boat warmer in our 'tropical' climate. Not critisizing by the way just experiance. Keep up the good work.

    • @SailingMelody

    It was a good idea not to complete the finish on the boards prior to refitting. I would have bashed on then found that bits needed fettling and I would have had to cut bits and re do the sealant. Getting the job done as best possible in one go should be the aim but I tend to be impatient.
    Your logical progress on that job is impressive.

    It's impressive the way you powered through those sole boards, some needed quite a bit of work, and that's not a small floor area to knock off. Already looking beautiful and the finishing touches should be the most enjoyable part, and then it will be stunning. Nice to get a quick look at the cockpit roof build too, I think we're all anticipating some more work on that when the house-sitting ends. Lots of variety, and a lot accomplished in this episode.

    As for the joists/ beams under the floor,one could impregnate them wiv raw linseed oil,mixed ca 10%tar oil,and get the nice smell as glazing.,.
    Something else: the electric panels you plan on top of da cockpit area,I saw on the boat Brupeg,that they got some panels on top that was glued on,instead of having the ordinary panels in alu frames. I guess you are already aware of Brupeg? Anyway,those panels could also be walked on....
    Well,just my imminent reflections,watching yer video.

    Hi Andy. I remember your shirt saying: "I'm no Aladdino". Agree, you are not. However, you are a McGyver. Doing incredible things with what you have. And, without disrespecting Aladdino, to McGyver, is respected as a verb. In English as well as in my native tongue, Dutch. I wish you, Melissa, Jack and Oliver the best ever for all years to come (I hate christmas-wishes).

Loving Bach I moved on. Played everthing from hardrock to folk, from fusion to salsa, from jazz to singalongs. Music is what brings people together. Maya will think alike. Fettling refers to the process of cleaning and finishing the surface of a metal casting, typically by removing excess material, imperfections, or rough edges. However it has become an English colloquialism which now refers to that sort of work in any context, not just metal casting. Have a wonderful Christmas, love to you and your family! 🎄

    What is the treatment to the beams to which you referred when you mentioned softwood over hard?

    • @SailingMelody
      @SailingMelody  5 месяцев назад

      Tanalised timber, also known as pressure-treated timber, is wood that has undergone a preservation process to increase its resistance to decay, insects, and other environmental factors. This treatment involves impregnating the wood with preservatives under high pressure, helping to extend its lifespan and maintain its structural integrity when used in outdoor or damp environments.

    Dear Sailing Melody family (especially Andy this time).
    What? No no no no! You're definitely not the king of unfinished work! And not only because of the fact that this job respectively title was already given to me a loooong time ago. Maybe I can be called emperor meanwhile and if you try hard, you may become king in the far future! Additionally I'm officially an extremely experienced procrastination expert! So no job/title in this kind of genre/segment for you here too, sorry. 😁 ;-) 2) 👍👌👏 Very well done again, Sir (video and work). Although it was a lot of hard work, it is the right thing to reuse the teak wood. You would have hardly been able to buy this quality/density nowadays (as I already mentioned under the last video). 3) Good heavens, this bunk bed was really, really small. My shoulder width is 57,5 cm (the 5 mm are extremely important of course). Glad to see that you are changing it for good.
    As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
