If you search utube for drill battery repair you might find one I saw a while back. The batteries are all basically the same inside and you can wire in some new cells . It's not pretty but it works safely and efficiently.
We did discuss procrastination only a week ago 🙂
The jumper is beautiful. I am very envious.
I love it!
Thanks guys!
A great episode with lots going on. You all need medals for working in the cold and dark...but it'll be worth it!
Thank you! It will all be worth it soon!!
I cannot imagine having to explain every reason for each step you take?!?!? I can barely explain to one person, the reasoning behind my thought process!! I guess thats the sacrifices you make for your 'fans'!
Hahaha we’ll kind of. But it’s not so much a sacrifice for the fans so much as making videos without speaking would result in a very different style of video. There are lots of channels out there doing very well who just silently get o with incredibly impressive work and either use background music or ambient noise to build the atmosphere and add to the visual experience. But that’s not us. We just make our videos the way we make them and some people like that style of video and other people don’t. And that’s just fine fine fine with me :)
Hi guys. I somehoe have mised you for a while. Glad to find you again. Melissa. Jou look great.
Thank you 😊
Love the work! As an ex-IT guy who mounted monitors in industrial environments, any pole mount around that mast is going to likely swing and break or hit someone no matter how you tighten it down. I suggest a wall mount that holds the TV flat against the ceiling then folds down for use. Kinda the opposite of the saloon table idea.
That’s a superb idea
I Love the improvements you two are making while your house sitting! I love the idea of leaving the ceiling boards the natural teak color and vanishing them
Thanks so much! 😊
We’ve all done it mate. Here in Florida you just run the boat to drain the water.
Brilliant Andy, the progress in the cabin sole has certainly come together fantastically and in a relatively short period. Love the idea of installing a humidifier and with the new insulation there should be less sweating. Wishing all well and with April approaching rather quickly, the best on your shakedown cruise.
Thank you 😊
Redundancy with life saving gear can never be over done
Excellent choices mates
I like layers of redundancy with everything possible
So good to hear the word "dinghy" pronounced correctly for a change. Keep up the great work you two, spring will get there eventually!
Yes, very soon :)
Brilliant progress. Its all looking great. You must be very pleased and proud of what you have achieved. Best wishes. James
Thank you 😊
Its surprising how fast things are progressing with so many projects in the works.
We are definitely getting there!
I've got a little 2 1/2 hp British Seagull I use and the best feature is it's so simple you can fix anything on it with a rock and a screw driver. Parts are available and they stow quite easily.
They’re cracking little engines aren’t they. I’d love to get my hands on one
You didn't look stupid, you looked warm. I knitted a scarf that would totally match that sweater.
Ohhh that sounds cozy!!!
I LOVE your dinghy thinking. DO just what you said. Very well thought through and you already have the stuff! Boat sinking... Ge I wish we had kept that other dinghy! Glub, glub, glub.
Hahaha yes indeed. If we find that we never every use one of them that we might get rid of one but we will make that decision when we find out what works for us as a family
Being in the building trade I 100% agree with you Andy. Plain screws as we call them here in Scotland are definitely the work of Satan lol. Cross headed screws are so much better. The trade is moving slowly towards torx screws which are even better still. Enjoying your content very much. Keep up the good work. ❤🏴
Thank you. :)
Been enjoying watching your videos a lot I’m from Bainbridge island in Washington state bought boats here. I’ve been a professional dock walker all my life. Have a great family. Great work ethic. Great talent. Keep up the good work.😊
Thank you that’s so cool. We’re still amazed we have followed all around the world
The inside is really nice , and a lot of work , but it’s your home now ! 👍🏻❤️
Definitely 👍 thank you 😊
Another super episode 😊
Thank you 👍
I love the idea of varnishing the deck head slats. There's plenty of white paint about, the natural teak grain will be beautiful.
Edit: I just watched the end, white it is! 👍
We’ve gone for white in the end but can always revert if we don’t like it
Andy, you look like a proper sailor. Love your jumper, and your hat. Nice job sanding, Melissa! 😎💕💕💕🥰🥰🥰
Just missing a pipe!😊
I love this Jumper 😂
@@SailingMelody 😂🥰😎
@@thebermudaangle9958 I’d love a pipe but I don’t smoke. Maybe someone does a really convincing fake pipe that’s actually just a vape
Great and varied work being done. There is so much to do I don't know how you cope but you do and just keep going. Well done. Keep well and safe. James.
What ever happened to the helm cover??
TBH I'm feeling the strain a bit at the moment now we are ramping up to leaving and Ive got a huge list of stuff weighing on my mind to do before we go
You will see it next week!!! 😁😁😁
Absolutely fantastic Andy, I admire your energy and commitment. We spent 3 months down in Corsica and Sardinia last summer.... it's worth the effort!
Thank you so much!
Best to paint both sides of the slats. They will be prone to distortion if you leave the other side bare wood.
If the seat cushions are symmetrical and they can be swapped port/starboard, they can be upholstered in 2 different materials. One side could be very durable and perhaps waterproof and the other more decorative but still durable. I was going to say swapping them fore and aft and also reversible but you have the cut out and I think they have a taper? As with a domestic sofa one seat position always get more use than elsewhere. That means the foam collapses over time in one spot. Are you going to use zips or lots of poppers?
They were only painted on one side originally and they’ve not warped in 50 years so I think they’ll be ok but you might be right
Everyone has those moments where you put the milk in the cupboard and the cornflakes in the refrigerator. The dingy holding thing? Very clever with the air vent design. The insulation worked very well. Love how it just sticks up there. Great table idea. 100% agree having the big open family space. PS: White paint covers a multitude of sins.
Thanks. I’m looking forward to making the cradle for the dinghy :)
😂 I know, I know, thats why I changed to porridge m8 😂
@@gregbolitho9775 lol. Porridge? I’m not following you Greg 😂😂
@@SailingMelody I put the cornflakes in fridge and the milk in the cupboard. Way to often

Boy the boat is looking great nice job on everything!
Thank you 😊
making me look forward!
So are we! :)
totally agree on using cross head screws 👍 she's looking great 👌
Thanks 😊
I agree, slotted are a nightmare
They are indeed
A great video Andy and Melissa as other's have said lots of content good luck for launch in April spring just coming in to bud😊😊😊
We’re working flat out now
Another video of excellence Andy and Melissa. I agree the white ceiling wood tile wood be more efficient for brightness down below. Andy I noticed on deck when you put the dinghy into the water your deck seemed to be growing green mossy growth. Don't know if that's normal, but thought I'd mention it. Melody is going to look fabulous once shes done. You have a lot to do still Andy .So hopefully the April departure is made ( It will be) April's got 30 days in it so you've the 1st until the 30th to accomplish your departure goal. Go Andy Go!!!!
Catch you next video mate
All the boats go a bit green this time of year around here. Or are you talking about my chin.
loving your f ups great vid I've been watching for a while now looking forward to you setting sail good luck guys
Thanks 👍
Will be up in Wales at Easter weekend ,and will try to come and see melody before you sail ....

Andy, I love watching how your brain works as you process your various ideas 😊🧠🧠👍
Blessings to all of you..🙏🙏 stay safe 🥰⛵️⛵️⛵️
Thank you Kathleen xx love from us all
Are you going to cut in access panels in the seat backs so you can use those as storage compartments. You'll probably need all the storage you can get for provisioning for the long crossing. Maybe cut in the access panels in the upper half of the seat backs.. so all of the stuff doesn't fall out when you open them?
Yes I explained all about that twice in the video :)
Cool looking g forward to your travels😊❤. Best wishes to you all
Thanks so much! 😊
Nothing better than the smell of teak, reminds me of Coca Cola for some reason ,anyway I
Was also sanding a bit of head liner teak trim yesterday, that’s possibly not been sanded and varnished since it was first installed back n 1979,very satisfying
Dinghy redundancy is a great idea. Especially one with a little sail that you can plod hundreds of kilometres if needed. Like Shackleton's famous row/sail for (if memory serves me right) hundreds of km's (600-800km {???} for the return journey to a different base-camp, thence on to Georgia Is. or the Falklands) in Antarctic waters, dodging ice-flows, to save every one of his crew after his massive ship was caught solid in an ice-flow and crushed like tinder.
Yes I like the idea of being able to sail the tender and having one which is large enough for all four of us
Shame you had to paint the slats, but they are your slats of course and I understand it will make the interior lighter. Exiting times ahead. I SO hope you do the "round the UK" trip as a shakedown, as I said before, you will show me places I have never been.
Currently the plan is
April/May/June : sea trials in UK waters with the tentative aim of a circumnavigation
July/August/September : Head south to warmer waters
Dear Melissa, Andy, Oliver and captain Jack,
It’s great to hear you’re leaving out of the marina where Ocean Melody is now. Does that also mean you’ll sailing away from the UK? What about steel Melody if we may ask? At the other hand there’s still a lot to do to make everything finished and looking all spanking beautiful. By the way we fully agree your choice of painting the teak ceiling planks white to offer enough light in your ship. Willeke and I also hope all is fine with the 2 boys
We look forward to your next vlog and send you love from the Netherlands
We are still working on steel Melody along side all the big list of jobs we need tondo on ocean Melody
20:00 agreed!
The work of satan eh Trev!
2nd coats of paint? ALWAYS! NEVER delude yourself that one coat is enough, it NEVER is. Just forget about it! ALWAYS (at least) 2 coats. Glad to see you are doing so. In the future NEVER even entertain the thought of "just one coat".
Yeah I didn’t really think one would ever be enough
Hi Andy. I'm a semi retired audio engineer, semi retired as l still do some work for a local hifi dealer. If you send me your blown battery charger, I will try to fix it. I can't guarantee success, but l think lve a better than even chance. Leve me a reply and we will go from there. Cheers Cliff.
Oh wow!!! Yes please.
Can you email me turner.andy@hotmail.com so we can exchange details
I was going to mention to Andy that he could probably pop that charger open and it may be a blown internal fuse. But I'm sure you would probably have more success than the average Joe. @cliffordguest4824
Robertson (square head) screws beat both slot head and cross head! They will hold onto the driver bit so you can install one handed and they are less likely to cam out!
There's loads of different types aren't there. Mostly I want screws I can get out quickly, easily and with a bog standard H2 cross head screwdriver
Hi guys just a couple of thoughts from kit car days ... Your seat foam needs to be fairly high density the backs less so unless they are to be used to make up a bed ..like in a camper bed rear seating.
The other detail is if the front edge squashes down it tends to cut into the back of your legs especially if your sitting forward ... An extra layer wrapped round the front edge gives more padding and a bum wedge when heeling over... if your lying on it, it will help keep you off the edge unless you plan fitting removable lee cloths or boards 🤪🤢
Yeah we’ve got a dual density foam with a medium density core and high density black foam layer on top
@@SailingMelody
Stay warm its getting colder again... Check out the PBO article available on line, on controling condensation on a boat in winter.

Corned beef hash breakfast burrito?? F**k ya! I wish I had access to those awesome looking tortillas up here in the frozen North!
Hahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂
Absolutely love watching your channel, don't be too tormented regarding traditional and what needs to be done within a specific time frame. You will soon be in the doldrums wondering what you can do to pass the time. 😂😂😂
Hahaha that’s true
Andy I'm really glad to to see you make all the improvements, maintenance, install insulation, ect., ...But aren't you violating the cruiser's #1 Rule "Never set a time table to sail !!!" I hate to say it, but being in a rush is all ready causing you to make costly mistakes, like throwing water on your battery charger. This will not only cost you in pounds, but also in time going to buy or order the tool. Relax... that ocean isn't going anywhere... It will still be there when you get the boat finished. Relax and do the very best quality work... because you will be looking at it for as long as you own the boat. You want to be proud of your boat where ever you go, as well as not having to redo a hastily done job, on a remote hot island where materials are hard to get and far, far more expensive to purchase, than they are right where you are at. You've also got the resources of people and spaces where you are now that will help get the jobs done faster, and more conveniently, than probably any where else in the world. Best of Luck.
Hahahaha yea you’re exactly right about that/ we won’t be tying ourselves to a specific date. I think giving a month we’re intending to go is realistic
I would humbly suggest looking at a boat liquidator store where folks piece and part old (resell) boat parts. So many boats have teak fold down tables. I am sure some of them have been reclaimed and may be for sale for boats that have been demolished. Seems simpler than making them yourself, and if its teak, it is worth it.
Good plan I’ll contact boat scrapyard, Luke is always helpful
Leaving for somewhere tropical I hope
For sure!
Nice idea, going back to teak, like that idea. But like you said as light as possible. Nice thinkin on the seat backs. I 've seen that happen on other boat channels. Like I keep sayin 🙂👈Up there for thinkin 🦶👈 down there for dancin. Like the idea, you were offered a spot on the lifeboat. More Ambos/Medics in more places is a good idea. With the table fold down, would the heater stay there? Thanks for doin the vid m8s, doin real well. Thanks, stay vertical.
That heater is just a portable temporary one anyway so it’ll be stowed or even got rid of after this winter
Great news about April and great video,RYOBI tools have always been good concerning batteries and chargers you can use a brand new charger on a twenty-forty year old battery
😁
Andy brilliant but stay safe long days lots of tasks drive careful ❤
Thank you, I will
It’s freezing in Oregon too!
Probably colder with you 🥶
I had a fold down table in my wooden 7 ton. It worked great and gave lots of room when put away and good large space when down. It also had a fiddle all the way around.
I might make mine with a removable fiddle. I like a fiddle on a saloon table but when it’s flat calm and Jack is trying to do writing or drawing they’re a nuisance so I might make the fiddle with some little brass pins so they can be slotted in or out as required
@@SailingMelody My fiddles where just 1/2 round moulding attached right to the table
@@FranklinNewhart nice: I’m considering removable fiddles so the table can fold flatter in the stores position
You could run a nice brass or copper fiddle around three sides and then just do the half round on the bench side. That would likely suit as a fiddle and not interfere with Jack doing all his sort of stuff. Might even keep Ollie's food bowl from flying across the cabin when he is like one.
@@FranklinNewhart hahahaha yes you’re right about Ollie: his bowls have suction cups but he still manages to get the contents plastered all over the room. It’s a genuine skill he has.
Perhaps it's just me, but it seems quite strange that there is one giant boulder of a rock sticking out of the wall above the freezer. I'm sure 100 years ago when that barn was constructed there must have been a reason? You mentioned painting or varnishing the boards you sanded. One consideration would be to pickle them with a white stain then varnish. You could still enjoy the wood grain while brightening the space. Just a thought. Carry on.
I’m going to have to go out to the barn now to look for that rock 😂😂😂
Andy! That's the first time I've heard you swear properly, the worst I've heard from you up to now has been "Flippin" - LOL.
😂 it does happen 🙈🙈
Good job‼️
Good evening,
After watching my opinion may not be of any use , however I would say the ceiling in the natural teak rather than white 🧐, white would give the illusion of bigger space but natural gives it the natural beauty as should, only my opinion if I was at the table, you have a fantastic channel and I have enjoyed watching from the very beginning, 🤝🫡🇬🇧. PS I will soon be proud to be Patreon 🙌🏻
Oh wow thank you very much :)
❤
A dinghy should have dings. Simple as that.
Unfortunately batteries/chargers all a rabbit hole of planned obsolescence. Just cut bait and pop for new or “gently used” to have at sea in April. 🎉
You’re right about obsolescence of new technology I think 🤔
Hi Andy, If you are ever able to find and use Robertson head screws (square slot) you’d love them. Perhaps only available in Canada but same price, not exotic and far superior in use.
Thanks for the videos. Ross Bailey 22:33
Hi Ross. Yes I do have those here but I want the boat to be dead simple to dismantle in case of emergency by anyone using off the shelf tools so I want to avoid unusual screw head types if I can. I agree from an engineering point that square or torx head screws are best
Suggest stainless torx head. Expensive but they are difficult to get them to slip (unless you try) and you'll be able to get every single one out again in 5 years. Philips /pozi are not much better than slotted, even worse if they aren't stainless.
Oh yes I only use stainless. I love the look of slotted but theyre a total pain to use. And Torx are great until you can't find a Torx driver Lol I’m so bad at loosing tools
How’s things with you mate anyway, when are you next in the area
All good. Caravan site opens 1st April... Might get to drop in with a can of beer 'afore ye go !
I've binned all my screws that are not torx. A Zen like phase.....
Personally I wouldn’t bother with the walker bay. From my experience they are the most unstable tenders invented. Lean to one side and they practically tip over. I would dump it for the inflatable
You may be right. We’ll see over time
Whats the most times weve forgotten the bung ?
Me at least 20 over the years !
Can anybody beat that ??
Hahaha I don’t think the walker bay would sink, it would just fill up slowly and become neutral boyant
Any plans to sand and repaint the yellowish cut down bench seat back tops? Instead of the tv, what about a projector with drop down screen? 3 1/2 months before you leave, time will ✈✈.
Yes we’ll paint everything over time. I’m not keen on projectors for normal daily use and for the kids watching educational programs to support their learning I think they’re less than ideal. We have a projector we can use if we want to for film night even outdoors projecting onto the mainsail but for normal documentaries and stuff I prefer a fairly normal TV :)
Check if theres an adapter for the old batteries on the new charger. I know DeWalt has the same issue but theres an adapter you can buy (not sure if its made by dewalt!)
I will look for one yeah
Melissa. You said that Andy has been handy. I am looking forward to him wearing a new shirt saying:"Handyandy". I checked google and found a company with that name in Holland. Sure this bloke does not play guitar like your Andy does. I'm not a designer.....you are.....combine two hands playing guitar with other tools on a shirt with that title. Btw: yourself....looking more and more sparkling from week to week.
Hahaha thanks that’s a cool idea
Dear mates, your dingy life raft flotilla is a good idea, but you will be well served to pack bright orange sun shades to match the life raft’s sea & sun awning hood. Not only sun shading but a larger mass of color. Your flotilla will be disguised by the white color of the dink, and the grey of the RIB. Family members lost a 51 footer to a container in the sea of Cortez., she was gone in 40 minutes. They were not rescued for 48 hours though many vessels passed within a few miles. When they were Finally rescued the skipper of the vessel that saw them stated; he thought it was a blood stain from a bait ball as he was dragging by on their last netting they sited the flotilla The raft folks all stood and held their baby daughter aloft, she was crying and swing her arms.
Our sight cover will likely be fluorescent orange and our inflatable isn’t grey it’s bright red :)
Your friend's workshop is an intriguing building. Do you know its history?
It’s a pretty common type of building round here, all the old farm houses and barns are build like this :)

The only thing I can think of is you have sold Steel melody
Let the life on the open seas begin
We haven’t sold her no. But we need to
I imagine you check the Bilges every time you go to the Boat?
Yes every time without fail :)
Guys, I was going to post last week that you need to sell Steel Melody as is anfd use the time to get Ocean Melody ready to get gone. I didn't say finished as boats are never finished. paying berthing fees for two boats eats into your funds very quickly.
We will be selling her. Would love to see her in the water though
I'm not sure if you're ever going to leave for sailing around the world. You're always going to have more little projects that you want to do on the boat.
We 100% will be going and yes there will always be jobs to do but a lot of stuff can be done as we travel

It’s camper van insulation from Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C7CZY6CJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You said you were leaving in short time. And steel Melody is done later on?
No we’re planning to get Steel Melody done as quickly as possible. If she sells before we leave then great but I want her done or as close to done as possible before we go becsuee I don’t want to be coming back to work on her. Don’t mind travelling back to hand her over to a new owner but don’t want to be working on her once we’ve left
Hi. It was painful watching you putting the Walker Bay in the water;. a 4 point lift that keeps the boat horizontal is SO much more efficient as the vertical distance you have to lift the boat is minimal. Captain Jack - and very soon Oli, are going to love messing about in the sailing dink. Crack on!
I do have a four point bridle on the dinghy for lifting but honestly with that dinghy having fenders around the gunwales it’s much easier to get it around rhe shrouds and lower it over the side with the belly of the boat towards you rather than having the fenders grabbing the shrouds and life lines as you try to push the dinghy out away from the yacht with one hand and belay it down with the other. The fenders round the dinghy are brilliant for what they’re supposed to do but a pain for lowering. We really need a set of tubes for that dinghy but they’re like hens teeth
Just can't keep a secret can you Andy?
Hahaha I can keep some 😜
would do your table but i live in greece
Ahhh yeah that would be tricky
Does that silver roof insulation have adhesive on it?
Yes it does. It’s amazing stuff
Did you try opening this charger up and see if you lucked out and just Blew the fuse.
One of our patrons is going to look at it for me
It almost never happens to be the fuse. fuse blows after internal short circuit, it protects internals only from external power jump, which was not the case here.
Hi Andy, did you receive your new charger.
Hi Steven. Thank you so so much. It arrived while we were out so yes we have got it. Can’t thank you enough that’s SO kind :)
Couldnt agree more on slotted screws, they are a right royal pain in the backside and have caused me untold grief. Dont understand the appeal, other than the traditional "boaty" look that some seem to get so uptight about.
Sounds like you are setting off imminently, will you be around next month?
Yes we will be around next month still 😁
Arrrh OK...April 👍
Actually, I do like slotted for hand driving sometimes, you can put more torque with more control on them by hand at the end. I am in Canada, with powertools the mainstay is Robertson's here, though now Torx is sneaking in from down south :)
Ask my mate Vince to take a look at your charger Andy.make a good video for him
hahaha thanks. One of our Patrons has already offered to take a look at it but thank you
What about steel melody?
Still working on her as and when we can
@@SailingMelody Auction her off and be free! The warm south of France awaits my brother from another harbor!

I'll never understand why people don't work overtime in their profession to earn extra money and allow them to pay a professional in the field who can do these jobs in half the time and in the right way. Doing it on your own, sometimes badly and slowly, doesn't seem like the most efficient way to do it.
That’s what makes me and you different then :)
That’s the craziest thing in the world
Go and work to pay someone else to have the learning and experiences you wish you could have but can’t because you’re working to pay them to do it.
Why?
So when you retire you can have a few years when you’re old to enjoy and experience all these things?
I’ll never understand why people spend 40 years in a career and work overtime to put 80% of the money they earn into someone else’s pocket so they can maybe hopefully have enough energy and life left to do something interesting when they’re too old to work.
That seems totally crazy to me.
Totally baffled.
Spend your whole life at work so you’ve got no time to enjoy life.
Just doesn’t make sense to me.
Time is so so much more valuable than money and the skills you pick up and experiences you have outside of work are so much more valuable than just doing the same job every day for decades.
I know that works great for some people but the other side to this is that our JOB is this. This boat project and the videos IS our job and we do much longer hours than if we worked in an office.
I’d rather invest more time doing more overtime for our own business, doing up the boat, making videos and seeing the financial rewards AND experiential rewards of that rather than cut the mount of time I spend investing in myself and our own RUclips and sailing/boat work business to go and push paper around or some other job essential for someone else.
It's your vessel. You can do what you like. But in my life I have learned that if you choose to half ass things the biggest loser is you.
Absolutely true!!!
