The amount of storage was incredible. We have a 416 and there is nothing compared to that. Also, I'm only just $1,000,000 short of my savings target to buy one.
Guessing Aluminum? 👍. Definitely the way to go for long term cruising. I love the design details Garcia does. Sealed steering compartment!! Out of sight out of mind storage for gear!! Swing keel for skinny water Bahamas? 👍.
Have you checked the Pegasus 50 and the Kraken 50. Both these boats have some incredible solutions. Those would be my main inspiration if I was going to build a boat now. Feliz Natal.
How good was la Rochelle!it was incredible meet you guys, and for me a dream see all that boats!next year i want to go with my three kids and my wife🤞🤞i also love moodys, here to Santander came last week a brand new moody 42, what a boat!
Excellent video 👍 it's nice to see the different yachts and the pros and cons of what you'll incorporate into your new boat ❤ you must be dreaming of the day you can splash your new yacht 🫡
We love when you go to boat shows for ideas. It makes great sense. We do the same when we were building our new home. How big is the boat you two are building? Parabéns
Investigating options and ideas can be a lot of fun as you put your planned boat on paper and then into aluminum . Starting from scratch , you can run wires and plumbing and mechanics to the optimum . I look forward to see what develops in the coming weeks . Enjoy France . May you both have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year. All the best, Hal
I like your style! The past few years I have developed a crush on The Garcia 45, Moody 41 ds, and the Ovni 370. The Sirius 35, Nordship 360, and CR 380 as well as a Nauticat have crossed my dreams as well. Waiting for my lottery win before someday my anchor may drag and bump into you 2. Lol. Love this episode! Good luck have fun.
We did for the space. But then… we couldn’t afford it as we wanted an specific one that was 52ft aluminium and also in the end we want space to have toys (boards, bikes…) and catamarans are too sensitive to weight and in the end also the cost of maintaining it we couldn’t afford.
The high sides are Gunwales they keep your side decs dry when heeled over and allow you to brace your feet against them if the boat heels over in heavy conditions.. though the narrow side deck is a bit limmiting . These boats are usually built with modern toughened laminated glass ...and should be able to withstand a 🔨 blow ...more often if the boats for use in Northern climbs the windows and hatches will be double glazed. To prevent condensation and ice forming inside. Remember insulation in a boat can help keep it cool as well as warm and dry. It also keeps it quiet...and GRP and metal hulls tend to be noisy. Look at Cork and Basalt fiber insulation aswell as materials like hemp and jute fibers. Traditional wood hulls are naturally better insulated and quieter..as they resonate less underway. Basalt and cork are highly fire resistant and sterile materials. They dont shed harmful fibers or off gass Basalt is incredibly strong and temperature tollerant .. or absorb water. Neither will react with Al even if it gets wet or interfere with radio signals they are both electrical insulators. Keep looking and collecting ideas ...remember you want your systems to be easily to reach and inspect and to be able to get to your motor whilst under cover and not in an exposed cockpit or under your sink or access way. To that end i would also seriously think about a Hybrid Powersystem using a seperate generator to run electric (regenerating) motor/s ...no maintainance no transmision needed for forward or reverse ..shaft drive silent and uses 30% less fuel done right. And full torque from low RPM. that way you only need a smaller battery bank.
We did for the space. But then… we couldn’t afford it as we wanted an specific one that was 52ft aluminium and also in the end we want space to have toys (boards, bikes…) and catamarans are too sensitive to weight and in the end also the cost of maintaining it we couldn’t afford.
Hey guys! You may want to check my early videos (they’re probably bad) but my initial idea was exactly what you are now pondering - with these two exact boat models (+Amel)! I eventually decided to go with more like Garcia style instead of Moody. The reason was I wanted Amel-style steering position and the deck saloon would have become too high. My boat isn’t as wide as these modern style boats - I wanted to have single rudder etc. Hoping to meet you one day! Maybe you could visit Finland at some point? 😊
Hi guys. Love your chanel, you are both very inspiring. If you get a chance to check out the Sirius 40 DS. It's a great yacht with lots of good ideas. Worth a look. Keep up the great work. Cheers Tom
I am not sure if it is just me but it looks like mono hull manufacturers are recently upping their game because of the strong multi hull competition. In the end hopefully the consumer will benefit from this situation.
I am sooo not into the toilet in the shower. That gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about that. That Garcia Exploration boat was epic. Great design. The Moody is too small for me. I think i would need more room. I dont have anyone I know that wants to sail, so one guest cabin would be good.
Garcias are amazing, but the layout of the Moody looked well thought out. I don't know how the Moody would get a full Category 1 Offshore rating, the glass doors could present a challenge to suitability for ocean crossings.
Your cockpit should either be flush or have to step up in order to get in side. When they’re flush, you can put a drain in front of the door to carry water out of the cockpit through the scuppers. if you have a step down, water would have a better chance of getting past the drain and into the salon.
Great video, remembering what is was like from our circumnavigation in the 1980s, presently sailing the Eastern Atlantic for Brazil. My wife's book is a good read, published by Austin Macauley of New York, and available on Amazon, literally a fictional story of sailing and adventure: "Seychelle and the Cannabis Yachties". It is very entertaining, hoping you will give it a read and review.
I would not take either of those boats to Antarctica, Southern Ocean yes, but Antarctica no, unlikely you get permission to go inside the 200 miles of the ice, I notice those boats never had storm cover hatches over the port holes, which is a must if going into the Southern Ocean.
Well dears, I of course never thought rich, and I understood you would have to build the boat, to achieve a high value. I see your entertainment channel as an income stream, as any occupation is. I certainly could not work as hard as you folks, thus my 12 meter cruiser is more modest. Coincidentally, SV Pacifica! Solo refitter. (P. S. Your electrical engineering degree would have been a huge boon in my first year of ownership!)
Going with a bigger boat like a 50-55 foot means more space for visitors and you could charter in different areas to make money. Most people do not want to be crowded when on charter. Think 3 charters a year means you can afford a bigger boat which sails better.
@OddLifeCrafting I know they're expensive, and no two are alike. They are much better made, no liners to hide potential nightmares and will go anywhere. If possible go for the 40, but if not the 35 🙂
Hey you two!!!. I miss Odd...but you really needed more room. My question is...in building your new boat, you have to buy everything for it yourselves. A boat yard can get things at a better price because they buy in bulk and often, getting them a better price. With you guys, you're going to design how you want your boat which is cool...but doing it this way could cost you more than having a boat built or buying one outright. Have you figured out how to get past that???
so 41 is too big? What size then? I don't disagree, Certainly 50ft is too big I think. We have a 29ft and it is ok for a holiday cabin but a bit small for live aboard. I have heard a lot of couples have said 32-34 is about right. I think 38-42 is probably about maximum depending on beam. A narrow and longer boat or a shorter and wider boat. I am not sure which is more "sea kindly" or has the easier motion though wider is probably nicer at anchor. While the same level from cockpit to saloon seems nice, I think I would want something that keeps the water out of the interior, a bridge deck or something.... I find it a bit annoying for entering the cabin but I am thankful water that fills the cockpit will not fill my saloon. Think about water flow in big seas when a wave comes over the bow, side or transom.
That aft helm position looks to exposed to me. It's exposed to the weather and very close to falling overboard. Have you considered a piviting helm that slides into three positions like some catamarans have. What about moving the helm inboard a bit more. Also, how about going for a 48 foot boat design that is about the same width as this one? I loved your center board design on your last boat so that you can get into shallow places. Could you make the new boat like that as well? A longer boat will be smoother cruising through the swells. This boat design looks short and wide. Like a pig on the water in my opinion. I really don't like the looks of it. It doesn't have a sleek look to me. Plus, short and wide (fat) will make the boat slower compared to something a bit narrower for the length. I really like Distant Shores TV new boat design!!!
I don’t get it. After working hard, and receiving so many gifts of labor and equipment, you just walk away from it all. Now you have the RUclips income, and Patreon charity to build a brand new, custom boat worth many times the old Odd?
Hello Craig. We respect your opinion but to be 100% honest this story is a little bit different to to what you describe. We didn’t walk away, we are constantly evolving people, we dream every day and work really hard to achieve our dreams. Being more specific every company that we worked with are actually happy that we are taking the risk and following our dream. It seem like you think now we are rich by scamming lots of people and we are purchasing a million dollar boat. Far from that. We sold Odd for less than the hull of the boat will cost and even though we have a little bit of savings to start the build we are far from having all the money. We will need to work really hard to make it happens. We will have two jobs, building a boat and producing videos to help pay for the boat. Also the companies that worked with us on Odd are really excited to have a new project together. Patreons? They were the first to know about it and they are also really excited to be part of the behind the scenes. By the way they were the first to know we sold Odd. All the way back in February and we got great positive support from them. We didn’t put fire on Odd we traded odd into a bigger dream so anyone that helped to make Odd possible automatically is helping to make Pacifico (our new boat) a reality. By the way we make a loot less money then you believe. Trust me if our main goal was to make money we would make a looot more as two engineers that we are. And don’t think we take things for granted. We are really really thankful to have such good Patreons and Partners that made possible for us to get to where we are, working really hard every single day to make sure in the future we don’t regret for not trying. Remember that you see a fraction through the screen, and that fraction is the easier and most enjoyable part, the dream. The reality is that it is much easier to not follow your dream. But that is not the life we want. We want to learn new things, a new language, nee culture, to experiment, to make and fix mistakes, to feel alive. In the end of the day that’s our lives. If we start living other peoples lives nothing makes cense. Last but not least, it’s not because we rescued Odd the we need to own Odd for ever. To be honest if we didn’t refit Odd she would probably be still sitting in the marina where it was for 22 year, now Odd has life and it is sailing with a great couple. Are they going to be the last owners of Odd? Who knows, for me doesn’t matter, as far as Odd keeps sailing we are happy!🥰
i love you gyes but i dont beleve thai if youre boat you are going to bild is fin kealed and spade rudder i dont think that is a good crusing boat if you hit something with youre spade rudder you crusing is over to me a crusing boat has a 3 quter keel and skeg hung rudder the only good thing a bout aspade rudder is reversing my apinion
Hi, Fred. ruclips.net/video/FGLwyT44vfQ/видео.htmlsi=hqpQ3q52p5AP60KX you can see more on this video. We are doing some modifications on the boat design, adding a skeg on the twin rudders and shortering them a little bit.

2 beautiful boats. There is so much room in modern yachts.
I really like the Moody 41. Seeing it, I can't wait for you to start work on your own boat.
⛵️🥰
Oh nice some boat shopping ideas. Cant wait to see the new boat slowly come together. 2x👍
This is great! We always love boat tours and these were good ones.
🥰 glad you like it 😊
By Far.....this is my favorite boat. It's perfect. Thank you for showing us. This was sooooo much fun.
Glad you like it!
The Moody 41 is one beautiful boat guys
Thanks for taking us along for the visit. Take lots of notes!! Have a Merry Christmas, guys.
😊 merry Christmas
Parabéns lindo vídeo
☺️
The Moody is a nice boat! Happy Holidays! Safe travels ❤
💕 thanks
I couldn't run away from that Moody fast enough. Poor build quality, compromised performance....any Garcia is just so much better.
Cannot wait to see your boat when it is built!
🥰 me too
What a beautiful boat that I can not dream of! 😂😂😂😂😂
😁
A very groovy and informative episode. Love it.

You need to check out the Sirius DS40….a great design similar to what you are planning
It’s indeed a great boat. We never had the chance of going inside one
Amazing place, thanks
😊
Can’t wait to see this come to life
🥰
Hope you guys had fun looking at boats Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Bonjour 😊this boat is very beautifull
😊 Bonjour
Was that real cork on the deck of the Garcia Ex 60 or imitation. Looks better than mahogany and nice to walk on. Great idea.
They say it’s cork with resin. It’s great actually
will you use the cork on your new boat?@@OddLifeCrafting
Whatever you incorporate into the new boat it's gonna be sweet ❤❤

bonitos barcos los dos

You should wach gone with the winds . And look at their dishwasher. It's pretty sweet. Just a thought.
We did. It’s indeed a cool idea 😊

I thought you were going to have a wheel house you could enclose when the weather was really bad. Be safe stay healthy, Merry Christmas to you both.
Really like the Moody 41DS..besides liking old styling a little bit more..thanks for the vlog🎉❤
Hello guy's, Did you consider building a catamaran instead of the boat design you all are looking building??
We did for the space. But then… we couldn’t afford it as we wanted an specific one that was 52ft aluminium and also in the end we want space to have toys (boards, bikes…) and catamarans are too sensitive to weight and in the end also the cost of maintaining it we couldn’t afford.

Yes, it’s great. We never had the chance to see it in person. 😔
Should have a look at the Garcia Exploration 52 maybe more the size for you
I am not sure if it is just me but it looks like mono hull manufacturers are recently upping their game because of the strong multi hull competition. In the end hopefully the consumer will benefit from this situation.
Gonna need room for little duca

I know its always down to budget, but id rather have a sirius 35ds over a moody 41ds.
Sirius is also on my list of inspirational boats 🥰
@OddLifeCrafting I know they're expensive, and no two are alike. They are much better made, no liners to hide potential nightmares and will go anywhere. If possible go for the 40, but if not the 35 🙂

Sirius 45 nothing else
I didn’t know they have a 45. I thought the 40 was their biggest one. They have great layouts and finishings 😊
perhaps Im misteaking in the wave of emotions
