    This is so refreshing after all the other RUclipsrs that start with pencil scribbles and measurements and tell you to draw ‘as light as possible because you’re going to make mistakes’. Then you added the horns!!! LMAO 🤣 Peter reminds us what art is about and how to live it daily. Thank you good sir for doing what you do.

    • @ziokay6055
      @ziokay6055 2 года назад +5

      They tell you to do measurements cause eventually if you want to get better you have to unsterstand how analogy works and how to make the proportions right. Art can also be fun and you can be spontaneous and carefree when drawing but if you want to step up and evolve your art you have to learn the basic ground rules.

    Hi Peter, just wanted to say that whenever i don’t know what to watch, when everything on RUclips feels too commercial or too superficial, I always find relief and value in your videos. Even the most relaxed or silliest ones. Thank you for uploading!

    Living through your drawing process, out-loud talking to a computer screen. Love your expression! Would get your pen if I used inks, but right now I am so happy using pencils on a textured paper * satisfying *. Maybe some day. Just to say: your videos make me happy!

    I wish I could really convey how much of an impact your drawing tutorials have had on me and my art. You freed me from the constraints of all the pointless rules I had been adhering to, freed my lines to go wherever they please. It's changed my life for the better and I'm grateful 🙏.
    Side note: IMO, the next Peter Pen should be a bright color to contrast the mellow ones so far. Like an orangey-red or something. (I hope there are more!)
    Thanks, Peter!

    Personally, I feel the constant need for even my sketches to be perfect. I can doodle but even my doodles have to satisfy that my need of being a perfect scribble. I think in this day and age the internet is so ingrained in our life, it has slowly effected my imagination. Where I am constantly in comparison of people who inspire me and complete strangers I feel I need to superior towards. It's insufferable at times where even the blank page becomes intimidating for reasons of insecurities and fear of it not being presentable for social media. Even if said random scribble or sketch is even going to be posted. Seeing this video makes my brain hurts, but it made me realize how much I'm so influenced by other people's opinions and acceptance. When I can't handle my own criticism nor accept my art for it's imperfections. I clicked on this video at the right time in my young adult life, and I am grateful

    Now this is a useful tutorial! Thank you Peter!
    Seriously tho; RUclips keeps throwing these art tutorials at me saying things like: You are doing this wrong! Or: Don't do this, do that! And it kind of pisses me off a little bit. It's art. Nobody is doing anything wrong as far as I'm concerned. And sometimes I like their 'bad' example better than the 'good' one. xD

    What is so interesting about your drawing is that you are not just trying to represent something like a camera, but you tell a story in the process, sell a pen, and give drawing hints. ✒️✒️✒️

    This video was great and came out at a perfect time for me. I’ve been watching your channel for a couple years mainly because I like the art style and I find the videos relaxing but earlier this week I decided that I wanted to start drawing more frequently. I started off with figure/ life drawing and that’s fun and all but I still had trouble with the creativity aspect of drawing plus at least for me after repeatedly drawing different poses for a while I got a bit bored/ unmotivated to continue. I think this was a push in the right direction

    Even though he doesn't like starting with a sketch, which is basically used to form out basic proportions, you can see he is still using basic facial proportions, ie the corners of the mouth typically end underneath the pupil, the top and bottom of ears coincide with the top of the eye and below the nose, so while he doesn't like those parameters he uses them still. So if you don't know basic human proportions then by all means use a sketch to outline those proportions then from there you make the drawing unique to the portrait your are creating, no two faces are the same but some basic rules apply, then from there, you can stretch those rules. I think his main point of view is to encourage creativity, while rules, for at least Peter, can feel hindering and hold back freedom. I tend to disagree but I can see his point of view. I call this type of drawing "automatic" drawing. Where its free flow, this can be great and definitely has place in the bucket of creative approaches. I am from the school of, learn to draw from life realistically then break those rules completely.

      Agreed. He can draw a random shape and then make it look good and cohesive because he has a strong understanding of form and 3D space.

    Those tutorials are the essentials, especially if you're going into the different industries that are looking for artists like game design, concept art, etc. I used to avoid these, and reject the idea of learning the fundamentals all the while struggling to get the proportions, and angles when drawing something in two-point perspective, yet I couldn't figure out why it was a struggle to do so. I couldn't even draw someone sitting down without making it look like they have stubby stumps for legs.
    I do agree with some of the points you've made. Like those art tutorials with DO an DON'T slapped on the title. Sure, if you're focusing on realism, but not everyone's into that. I had that kind of mindset where everything needs to be perfect, and have backtracked so many times without making any progress. One step forward, and twenty times back. Now I do a more stylized approach. Something more whimsical, at times dark and gritty, but aren't bound by reality.
    .
    .
    In short, learn the rules to break them.

    One wing...you really had me going for a moment, then it became all-too-clear that you simultaneously rendered the other seven wings, by a clever change in interdimensional pen pressure (probably only possible with the Peter pen), so as to be perfectly behind the one that we can readily perceive.

  • @asimian8500
    @asimian8500 2 года назад +1

    *Peter is so right about construction lines destroying creativity and you end up with the same face everywhere* You know the artists I'm talking about. These construction methods were meant as a learning tool--not as a sole method for drawing faces. Learn the construction methods. Start drawing real faces. Throw the construction methods away. Now, from imagination, draw faces and make variations of the features (smaller eyes, larger eyes, nose shapes, eye tilt, head shape, etc). You can draw a beautiful face with different feature sets and there are so many possibilities. Use the Loomis technique and all of your faces look the same. Like they were created in the same android plant but with different hair styles, eye color, and skin color.

    Hullo Peter, I was completely transported to the world of "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster, with illustrations by Jules Feiffer. I feel you captured the "VIBE" of this universe with this drawing! I am not sure if this resonates with you or your audience at large, but it was written in 1961 and I discovered it in 1970! I truly believe it is a classic story and if you have not heard of it, you should give it a read you will NOT be disappointed! I believe I should say this drawing is simply wonderful, just in case you did not get that from the beginning of this comment!
