Just finished watching 'Year Of The Scab' for the 1st time. I'm so happy that the 'scab' players finally got their Super Bowl rings after. Call 'em 'Scabs' all you want, those guys were just as integral to the Redskins' Super Bowl-winning season that year. They won all 3 of their replacement games including the Monday Night upset in Dallas. They played hard and never quit inspite of the circumstances. They won that final game in Dallas knowing full well the group would not be together again after that game. Some of the replacements were kept on while others were let go( including Tony Robinson who was one of their QBs & came in to play vs the Cowboys & helped lead them to victory....and then had to return back to jail to serve out the remainder of his prison sentence ). I can understand the regular Redskins players if they harboured some resentment initially to the replacements, but those guys helped set them up for the rest of their season & the 'Skins won the Super Bowl as a result. This was a great 30 For 30 episode. :-)
The NFL owes the scabs a ring and an apology. What an injustice for a league that makes Billions. Make it right
@canadianblaster09 Even the regular players who threw eggs at their busses were in favor of giving them rings.
@@rockvilleraven They received their rings in 2018.
A mid-level USFL team at best, beats the Cowboys with almost all the regulars back by then. I was lovin that game. One of the biggest upsets in NFL history no doubt!!
Mike G I think the cowboys had 12 regulars that played. Not almost all. Lol Amazing nonetheless. Especially when you factor in the 3 HoFamers including Dorsett. AND it was at Dallas. Not quite sure why this isn’t talked about nore
The year Joe Gibbs proved why he is the greatest Coach in NFL history
Should done like MLB season in 1994 replacement player when baseball gone on strike.
Here For Tony Robinson - That is All
This 30 for 30 was really good! It will happen again soon 2021!
I need to watch all of this too. I was just a young kid when this happened. I really don't remember it. With that said though it would seem to me that these players are getting a chance to make their dream come true. I am sure they weren't told everything over the phone.
BCTIGUY3 I was 10, my 3rd year following the NFL. It was crazy. Very few players crossed the line at first but as the weeks dragged on some came back. The Cowboys most of all. And a Redskins team entirely made up of scabs beat Dallas on a Monday night on National TV. But I agree, if I was (and am) an average Joe & got a call to play an NFL football game I would have jumped at the chance too. Hard to get on those guys for loving their dream. After 4 weeks it was over & the strike ended.
I wanna watch that game
Remember John Swofford the longtime Commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference urged a boycott on Auburn in any sports for the punishment on the cancellation for Thursday Night September 2nd, 1999 opener at Florida State in Tallahassee on ESPN
I was born in 1987. Crazy
Me too, couple weeks after strike ended, 11/4/87
I need to watch the full show. Is this why they made "The Replacements" movie?
King Coopa J it was based off this yes
- Yes, the movie "The Replacements" was loosely based on the '87 Redskins replacement squad that beat a Cowboys team that actually had several NFL players that crossed the picket line to play.
Yep....87 Redskins/Cowboys game...."Pros vs Joes"
Yep pretty much. And the full show is quite good.
When the babies were born in 1987 from the Start of January with Maggie Simpson, and ended up with Wendy Testaburger at the end of December.
Boo wendy … boo….
Great movie.
I remember the Cardinals who had several players not striking like Roy Green and JT Smith taking the Redskins too lightly and ended up losing. Cost the Cards a playoff spot.
This is what the movie The Replacements (starring Keanu Reeves) is about I’m pretty sure
Does anyone know which players exactly they got outta Canada? I'm from there and would like to know
Anyone know where I could find the full 30 for 30 documentary?
Disney Plus or ESPN +
Auburn football went UNDER FIRE when AD David Housel did the right thing by cancelling Florida State in the wake of Terry Bowden's resignation after a 1-5 start and ended with a 3-8.
They need garanteed contracts like the NBA
its gunna happen again but this time the public will back the players and not the billionaires
fleischer236 doubt it
Iverson Mostly likely the players will strike ... Bring on replacements players and let those kneeling players go bankrupt!
Goodbye
National Felons League!!!
because he has the freedom to care and express his opinion, just like you do.
They could even start their own league. Women did that in tennis, it was hard at the start but it worked
Most people will never take the side of spoiled divas that get paid millions to play a game.
Like the 1998 NBA Lockout after Michael Jordan's Retirement
bring on the scabs!!
Are you kidding me!. "Scabs", how about Athletes who saved a Season. No Ring for Redskins players. Outrageous! Comes back too $ at the highest level. Shame on Redskins owner. Make it right and give them a "Ring". They gave the Fans a Season. You owe them "Respect". Us the fan respects them. NFL players each of them, not "Scabs".
Should have been a "Celebration" receiving rings, not just a "Conscious" wake up.
