What a tribute to the Washington staff to put together that kind of talent on a replacement team. Anthony Allen, Ed Ruppert and company, a belated thank you. I remember the Dallas game IN Dallas. You guys played your hearts out; Getting Super Bowl rings should never have been an afterthought.
Snyder is a good dude. Retarded but a good dude. I still blame Gibbs n Snyder for Sean getting shot. Simply coulda said u can't go to Miami. 1000% sure when the guys broke in before he got shot cops said don't stay there
I watched that season from the UK were I was a massive fan. These guys did great. I'm glad they finally received their rings. They definitely deserve them.
Oh my God i thought id never see the day. A cowboy fan admitting a video about the Redskins is good. The only thing i can ever get cowboys fans to agree on about the skins is that Sean Taylor was great.
I am a Cowboy fan too, but this story and information was fantastic to hear. Inspirational. Good to hear the replacement Redskins were honoured. (All be it late). I would love to hear how things went For the individuals AFTER they played their 4 games... I guess I will Google.
Edward Brito Mutually beneficial: the replacements were better off without the smattering of vets looking over their shoulders, and the regular team (a 10-6/11-5ish squad who got hot at the right time and benefited from a massive upset in the playoffs) were better because they stayed a single cohesive unit.
Wow, that was amazing. I remember that season. My aunt and uncle are Redskin fans and I remember watching these games while at there house every week. It should've never taken this long for these gentlemen I to receive their rings. The Replacements is my favorite and to now know this was the reason for the making of the movie, it all makes sense now. Awesome job fellas!
Just watched the 30 for 30 on this and I really feel for the replacement players! If offered to play in the NFL. How would you say no??? I’m glad they were finally recognized! and at the time the fans supported them.
Thank ESPN 30 for 30 for bringing this to light. This was a non-topic for many years until that documentary that forced the Redskins to do the right things. I'm truly happy for these guys.
This wasn’t a bright spot for Gene Upshaw’s tenure as President of the players union but it’s beyond amazing to see that these finally got what they deserve! I just hated that they had to wait 30 years for this but Daniel Snyder did what Jack Kent Cooke didn’t even bother to do.
I remember the NFL strike back in 1987 I was 14yrs old then... That was well deserved for the Washington Redskins organization to give those replacement players their Superbowl rings that was a long time coming for those men!!!😃👏
After seeing 'Year Of The Scab' I'm so happy the replacement guys got their rings after. They should've been honoured with SB rings back then to start with. They essentially helped the regulars get the spark they needed to march all the way to the Super Bowl that season. I believe they were the only 'replacement' team to go undefeated in the whole league for those 3 games. Honest guys, all they did was capitalize on an opportunity that very few get a chance at doing. Played hard, never quit & never wavered even when initially met with resentment by players & fans at the beginning. By the time the strike was over, fans in Washington actually were cheering for their replacement players. They really did play a big part in that Super Bowl championship season. :-)

Thats brilliant. Never knew that even after supporting the Skins since 85, about the replacements getting Super Bowl rings. So they should as they propelled us into first place at the Cowboys expenses, were technical part of the team for the 87 season. I bet the pro's thanked them at the seasons end for the spark, compared to the ugly scenes at the beginning
Wow, never heard this story before, I was born in 87", so a bit before my time....but honestly that movie "The Replacements" was such a funny movie and loved watching it growing up, and really never knew it was based on real life events. OF COURSE those guys deserved Suber Bowl Rings !!!! They put them in 1st place and gave them the lead they needed, and started the momentum that landed with a winning season! Shame it took 30 years! But of course it would be like those players....to just be so humble and be glad that they even got them at all. They are the real heros for sure! Am def going to watch the documentary that is on Disney+ called "Year of the Scab"
A very kind token of appreciation from the Washington organization for acknowledging the Replacement players for getting the Redskins that much closer to the Super Bowl !!!
Can't believe it took 30 years for the replacement players to finally get their hard-earned Super Bowl rings. They were just as integral in helping the Redskins make their Super Bowl run along the way as well.
The redskins played 7 of their 8 divisional games in 1982. The only one they didn’t play was vs the cowboys in Texas. All 4 other NFC East teams were decent to good in the early 80’s: cowboys were the projected nfc champs, the giants had a stellar 81, the eagles still had their core from their Super Bowl run in 1980 intact, and the cardinals were very pesky at that time. So what we didn’t get to play against the weak afc central?
I saw a clip from a Redskin official ask why the replacements didn't get a Superbowl ring and this was not too many years after the strike. He had the nerve to say that the rings were expensive. While this is a multi billion dollar team. Couldn't believe he said that. I watched every strike game and man those guys were fun to watch
Some of these players did go on playing other teams. Some of the players replaced other players on the Redskins team. I think Anthony Allen, Craig McEwen and Darrick Brilz were on the actual Super Bowl team. Darrick Brilz played until 1998 played 175 games, started 124. Richard Johnson WR had 70 catches for 1,091 yards and 8 TD's in 1989 for the Lions. Henry Waechter was on 1985 Bears team. Derrick Shepard (Sterling Shepard's father) played for a few different teams. Joe Caravello, Michael Mitchell played on other teams.
Finally, well deserved. Quick question. Did any of these replacement players ever play on a 53 man roster for any NFL team after? Clearly these men could play, hopefully they got a chance.

For real brother they deserved those rings and they made a movie about it where's their cut of that
Me too
Same here.
Amen to that!!

They played 4 full games and got them in 1st place. How did they get away with not giving them Super Bowl rings.
Because the Redskins are a POS organization

I am not sure but Maybe the NFL players association / union had something to do with it.
Better late than never....hats of to the Redskins for getting those guys their rings that they EARNED.
Jack Kent Cooke!
You bet!!👉CLASSY!!
Except for the ones who passed away since then.
Long over due is the understatement of 2018.

Somehow you've managed to make a comment about the wrong video. This was about NFL scab players.
No lie, this had me crying.... They more than deserve this moment

This was a testament of just how great of a coach Gibbs was. Best of all time.
His fobbing off of the answering of whether the replacement fellas deserved rings was pathetic. He knew they deserved rings.
What an exciting story. Thanks for sharing.

Only sad thing is at least one replacement passed away (Carlton Rose in 2006) before he could get his. RIP.
