Finally a decent review without prejudice and with some actual insight into the game. Just one thing about the p2w aspect. TL economy is designed around the whales, there is no way to get Lucent in game without spending real money. Without ppl spending, there will be no Lucent in economy and auction house would be useless, so server without spenders would die pretty fast. It is not bad or good design, it is something new, so we will have t osee how it turns out in a longrun.
Thank you for mentioning that WoW is pay to win, It's disgusting and the apologists to a pay to win system are maybe even worse than the company that implement it.
This game reminds me of TERA, also a korean mmorpg, gameplay and mechanics look so similar, I've been dying for a new mmorpg to come out to replace TERA which unfortunetly died.
Finally a decent review, thanks. So sick of stupid clickbaiting reviews from people who played for 10h and read an article, also so much negativity around TL just to farm views and clicks when the game is actually fun and has a lot of potential, really enjoyed the beta and cant wait for full release.
Thank you for the review this was exactly what I was looking for. Covered every point that matters in MMO gameplay objectively. I personally had a lot of fun from lvls 1 - 20. I only had 3 days to play kind of craving it now.
I'm excited to play and go further into the game. I didn't know about the open beta testing so I only got to play for like 4 hours before they closed. As far as p2w goes, I don't mind it at all because you'll know who whales and who actually plays the game.
Go cooldown, an gear with mana gen and crit... strength in stats and you can destroy EVERYTHING fast!!! I Got to 50 with 2 characters. An im a casual with a full time job. The only thing I HATED, was the morphing flying I kept dying. And the little puppet thing following me was annoying
I have desperately been looking for a game I can get addicted to like EverQuest was as a kid. This looks like a good place to start. See you guys in 6 days
I've played WoW for 20 years and will continue when the WW comes out. But this game was great for the few hours I tried it, one of the best looking MMOs out there. The scenery, art, animations, skills, etc are all A or S tier. I really felt immersed in the world and can't wait for September. Question though, with the early access servers; are people who don't get EA editions able to join those servers if they choose? Like say, I get EA and my buddy doesn't, can he not join me after those five days? I sure hope that's an option. Would definitely split the community if it's not.
Fantastic comparison to WoW. Honestly all the big MMOs (that i know of) have p2w mechanics. This is warframes style and it works really well for them (3500hrs in that) and i love wows latest expansion. Honestly its such a "dirty" term but its in every game. (Almost) Id say Once Human is a damn good example of how f2p should be. But im super stoked for t&l.
But in wow p2w only matters for casuals (buying boosts). Gigachad gamers don't need to pay to keep up, because they are going to be the ones doing the boosting. In TL, you have to pay to get ahead even as hardcore player. If I want to be top 10 in the server, I need to pay, no way around it. In WoW, I don't need. In fact, if you pay for boosts in WoW it means you're already a noob who is behind everyone. So in WoW it's more pay to catch up (kinda like level boost, you get catch-up gear boost). In TL, it's actualy pay-to-win.
@@hagaiak I talk about this a lot and this has never come up, I love that comparison, thank you! That's a damn solid point to defend WoW and honestly it applies to Warframe as well, if you're on top of content, getting the "new" content only takes a few days then you're right back on top again. Not as smooth as WoW, but similar.
@@drizzintahl Yeah, it is kind of ironic if you think about it. In WoW people call it "pay-to-win" but the only ones who pay are the ones who already "lost". A funny term would be "lose-to-pay", lol.
The main issue i have, is there is NOT one MMO, that does NOT have an inflated auction house, *(keep in mind its still very new, soon enough, those items will be flooding the auction house as more players get geared, they will be placing them in the auction house)* . soon enough you will start to see the auction house grow out of hand and since its tied to your wallet/card. it will be no time before the abuse takes hold and the whales will start to flood the game.. it will happen, T&L did a great job of hiding their P2W system, at a glance it does not look bad, but once you start to really look at it, you can see it will be a mess in no time...
I’m unbelievably excited for this game I’m just loving everything I’m seeing about it 😍🥰 I missed the open beta but I cannot wait for the game to come in September 🥰
Just like every nc soft game its able to hook you in the beginning my only concern is end game content since that is where they fumbled in blade and soul, and a couple of other mmos. The game play is pretty smooth and the character creation is decent. I love the travel options when morphing into a bird or a wolf or a fish. Cant wait to play large scale battles in pvp. Everything is really well done from what i have seen so far and the fact that there are no classes to mess around with is great. As for the pay to play issue that is something im used to dealing with on other mmos but honestly its not as bad as it seems.
This game was fun for certain. While I didn't hit max, I did get close and played a fair bit to get a feel, but not enough to spoil anything. While their isn't a class system, there is certainly a role system depending on what weapon combo you choose. At first I played a crossbow longerbow dps, but I found the playstyle wasn't good for me as I kept dying and because my gear and points were all over the place. So I made another character which was sword and shield wand combo aka the paladin build which favored better and I enjoyed it more. So I can be a tank with off healing and buffs to aide. I actually ended up only doing one dungeon (cause I didn't understand how partying worked) which was that lvl 30 and totally got confused by the boss not knowing you needed to morph in battle. :/ Most of the story I got through fine other than the sandworm which gave me the most struggle as a tank. I think if I had leveled a bit more and got to 37 I might have been able to handle it a tad better. I was 35 and I only beat the boss after several attempts by having it glitch/stuck in the wall. I couldn't use any of my melee attacks and had to use shield throw the entire time other than weaving and doging. So yeah not certain the best method, but it worked. I do think there are a few bugs that need fixing like some story related quests not properly working. I don't really like the auction house being a pay to buy/win. Specially given how lithographs were the hardest thing for me to get crafting wise. Material wasn't an issue, but getting the lithographs were specially when they don't always drop or are in contracts. I did see later you could buy them with contract coins for I think like 500? Otherwise I wish the house was more gold coin based as I ended up having a large chunk of change and not really spending it as much other than mostly healing items and upgrades. Overall this was nice change and finally nice to have a mmo to play even though it is NC soft which is mixed. Still wish they didn't kill off Tera. :/
Some weapon combos seem much worse for solo content. Staff + Wand especially felt really weak sometimes, but was great in group content. I think it's very much support oriented, with the staff having spells to increase your mana to then spend on the wand abilities like group heals and debuffs. Sword Shield + Wand also sounds very support oriented. From what I've seen and heard, Greatsword + Sword Sield is a great bruiser combo where you're able to deal great damage while also frontlining. What I really like is that the attributes, despite what they sound like, don't limit you to a certain playstyle or weapon combo. If I had to guess, the most in-demand weapon combos will be the weird ones, since everyone will be going for obvious things like Staff + Wand, Greatsword + Sword Shield, Crossbow + Dagger and so on. But something like Staff + Dagger or Greatsword + Dagger can also work great.
Wait will the early access servers be forever separate or just temporarily? Just cuz I like collecting cool stuff like this or stupid titles in games when I have nothing better to do, so I really want to get early access, but not if the servers are separate, that's lame
WoW doesn't even remove the middle man, there are items that are huge iLvl jump directly on the market. And with a little effort and alot of cash you can pay for someone else to craft you big gear jumps as well.
Beta was enjoyable for me even if almost everyone had already played in Korea or previous betas so everyone rushed to level 50 and no one would do dungeons with new players and everyone was already scripting and had optimal builds. I took it slow, only made it to 45 and only did the first dungeon since I didnt join a guild and couldnt find a game with Tank/healer because as I mentioned everyone already knew what to do and they were just rushing to 50. On release I will play it for about a month since that when most MMOs are fun, after that only the P2W and hardcore players will stay.
Let me save you time I have played 1200 hours i give this game solid 8/10 Gameplay is fine monetization is great lots of things to do 10+ dungs world bosses 4000 players pvp (it’s a chaos lol) dung hard modes enchancing crafting most importantly boob slider! Give it a try game is soft p2w btw
Reminds me of Black Desert Online. Will eventually hit a leveling paywall being a F2P game. Then it will turn into a P2W game which is unappealing. Gameplay looks nice, graphics look clean, I like the whole flying, swimming, morph methods and such BUT it all comes down to if and when you hit that leveling paywall, how much money is needed to cough out.
That fact that we don't have any voice options for our character is so irritating. EVERYONE sounds the same. I hope they implement voice options soon. Very soon
The monetization in this game doesn’t seem to be any worse than it is Warframe. also seems that if you are dedicated enough to the grind you can play this game 100% free
Its hard to shit on the monetization system because it sounds literally just like Warframe's Platinum. As long as its reasonable to grind out the premium currency.
I felt that the melee felt "on rails" in terms of it felt clunky to attack enemies when your skills forced moved you. I didn't hate it, since I saw potential... but it didn't keep me that invested sadly. The graphics are lovely thogh
This game feels and looks outdated already. I was so impressed by the character creation, but everything that followed made me more and more depressed about the state of the MMO genre. How is it, that MMO's releasing in 2024 look and feel much worse than MMO's that originally released in 2014. I feel like the moment we try to justify games like this, we do something that shouldn't be done. This game isn't getting compared to games like Black Desert Online for no reason, cause it shows how even Korean Game developers aim for mediocracy. Black Desert Online is still the standard for graphics and combat in MMORPG's, despite being 10 years old. So why do we still just accept, that games coming out now look worse and have such terrible combat system? And i can already see people going "oh, but those are different companies, u can't compare that." Ok Kevin, let me tell u something. There is a game called "Blade and Soul", that has one of the best combat systems in the MMO genre. U want to know something? Blade and Soul was made by the same company as Throne and Liberty and yet Throne and Libertys combat system is a crime against anyone who values things like that. It's worse than World of Warcraft, which was released 20 years ago. Why are we sitting here, even arguing if Throne and Liberty is worth playing? Why are we even asking this question? Throne and Liberty flopped in South Korea and it's widely known, that the game is heavily p2w and filled with bots. Why are we even asking this question? Stop be so delusional and wake up. Stop support games like this, that clearly just got released to make a little money, before shutting it down after 2 years, when even the last person realized how bad the game is. Every MMO has it's problems, but Throne and Liberty might be one of the worst MMO's on that scale. P2W and not the best graphics is one thing, but terrible combat system in 2024 and a bot problem is unacceptable and only the tip of the iceberg. So is Throne and Liberty any good? No. Move on.
bdo cannot be "the standard for graphics and combat" if all the most most popular MMOs in the world crush bdo easily and they do not follow it's graphics and combat. Doesn't even make sense really.
@@ooodieooddie BDO has the best graphics and best combat of any MMO. Not sure what's so hard to understand about that. If u like it or not and how popular it is, doesn't matter. Objectively, it's still the best looking MMO with the best combat system. Never said it's perfect and sandbox MMO's are not as popular as Themepark MMO's. Cause Sandbox MMO's require you to use your brain and judging by your comment, that's not exactly a strength of MMO Players.
In WoW you can buy only starting low ilvl gear, the real items are in heroic mythic and rated pvp… so it’s not pay to win because when you compete a guy full PvP gear from rated PvP and a guy with bought gear, the second guy will not win…
Only thing I hate is the battle pass system. It should be paid by subscription. That way players can invest in the content for certain. In return, we get a great game as good as FF14. Non-FPS Battle-pass games don’t have longevity. Allow us to invest fully in the game.
I believe guilds can control castles and that alone is just competitive gameplay to keep castles or get castles at least those players will stay for a bit
Comparing the pay to win of this game to the WoW one seems exaggerated to me. In WoW, buying golds is only usefull for the crafting part of your gear, witch would otherwise require something like 10 hours of farm per character i would say... (probably less but im very bad at this) So buying a token will free you this time consuming task for 5-6 characters i'd say. It also mean that if you invest more money than this first token, you will have no extra benefit gear wise, so the game is still whale proof. Although im talking about retail wow, i don't know for classic and such. And i do not defend the wow token, i think it is not acceptable to have this in a payed/subscription game.
I had some expectations and after this beta I feel like I didn't like this game and the hype is gone, but to be fair, I have to say that you simply ignored the fact that people can get "lucent" money by playing the game. That being said, you could or should discuss how often or how easy it is to obtain this coin (you can get playing pvp or selling stuff at auction house). It doesn't matter whether or not we can consider p2fast equal to p2w, but it's really unfair to say that the game is completely p2w without discussing that specific information. FOR ME: two related things determine whether a game is p2w: 1) if the only way to get an item is using real money; and 2) if this item has better than average stats that we would get just by playing... So far, TL looks very different from that.
"Currency you can buy using real money". RIP The wow comparison also doesn't hold up because it's still easier to catch up to at the very least hard mode raids quickly in about 6 weeks. If this is the exact same then I'll eat my words on a sandwich but seems unlikely.
since this is a beta, will our progress lost and start from 0 all over again when the game launch officially, or can we continue from where we left off?
I really hate the start of the game. You are given a huge sword and a bow with a full kit of abilities, then you are sent against an enemy, without knowing what the skills do, all this while there is this feeling of urgency in the events taking place, so you just spam and move forward without checking how the skills work, how the tab target feels and take your time to get around how the combate works. It took me a couple of tries to actually get hooked, I had to give the game a chance and I ended up loving it. I think that this experience drove a lot of playera away, the "tutorial" IS no good. Other than that, I am already looking forward to September.
It's funny reading the comments saying "finally a PROPER review" simply because it's positive and aligns with that particular person's opinion (or bias). It's all matter of opinion and likes. For example Jolsn loved the leveling experience and quest design, ,while i found it highly infuriating. For example the quests in the orc region, especially one where you gotta do the jumping puzzle to reach the flag, annoyed me to no end since movement in TL is very janky and floaty. I also had a problem with enemies (regular mobs, not bosses) having SO much health and dealing so much damage, especially if you happen to pull more than 1-2 enemies. Rest i was pretty fine with. Anyway, there is a reason why the game failed in Korea, so thinking it would magically do better in the west is a bit delusional. The good thing is that they are actively working on improvements, hopefully those will transform the game into what it could be since the ceiling can be pretty high. I suppose the time will tell.
I was playing with my friend today for the first time and we were exploring the beach shore area and when we went for a swim we transformed into otters safe to say that moment solidified our interest for the future of it

Cant wait to see this game grow in content and direction, while being there to experience it! Bdo has just been failing and its missing alot of content that this game has.
This was the exact video i've been looking for. Thank you very much for the time and effort put into this.
Amazing video, thank you! Subscribing. This is exactly what I look for in game reviews. I'm stoked for Thursday:)
Glad you liked it! I'm also looking forward to it
Thank you for mentioning that WoW is pay to win, It's disgusting and the apologists to a pay to win system are maybe even worse than the company that implement it.
This game reminds me of TERA, also a korean mmorpg, gameplay and mechanics look so similar, I've been dying for a new mmorpg to come out to replace TERA which unfortunetly died.
man o man I didnt catch it until the last day of the beta but I was pleasently surprised and pretty excited for it to launch
Hopefully more flavours will be added to the weapon varieties in the future
I heard they plan on adding more weapons to the game I think they said they are working on a Spear weapon
@@Rated_xv Oh nice, I love spears
new combat update looks really dope
I'm excited to play and go further into the game. I didn't know about the open beta testing so I only got to play for like 4 hours before they closed. As far as p2w goes, I don't mind it at all because you'll know who whales and who actually plays the game.
Trying to switch to this game from 10 years of Destiny. I'm really hoping this game will fill that void of "new games just suck"
Destinys crucible still has me beyond hooked lol. But i deffo have soace for a new pve mmo.
Oooof. Literally pay to win with that Auction House.
I have Archeage nostalgia hearing what you saying, i'm really hyped for this game !
I have desperately been looking for a game I can get addicted to like EverQuest was as a kid. This looks like a good place to start. See you guys in 6 days
Definitely gonna give this game a try! I’m waiting for the official release date. I’ll be playing OSRS until then!
Anyone can join the early access servers, the only restriction is that early access characters can't transfer to regular servers for some time.
@@Jolsn Ah okay, that's good. I'll probably get EA then. Thanks!
You've made a really good overview of the game! Thank you so much!
Fantastic comparison to WoW.
Honestly all the big MMOs (that i know of) have p2w mechanics. This is warframes style and it works really well for them (3500hrs in that) and i love wows latest expansion. Honestly its such a "dirty" term but its in every game. (Almost)
Id say Once Human is a damn good example of how f2p should be.
Awesome review! And I totally agree with wow being pay to win the same way PLUS it’s not free you have to subscribe.
I want to get into some MMO - which one would you recommend I give a go first? What is your recommendation on best MMO?
for me who tested it on Korean server with total 40h ,lvl 52 the short answer is YES, the game good
This game was fun for certain.
I just hope the devs will be real open and communicative, so a healthy community can grow.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. It's a free game so I'm definitely playing it 👍
I already had my free to play experience with the open beta, so I don’t mind the early access pack!
Wait will the early access servers be forever separate or just temporarily? Just cuz I like collecting cool stuff like this or stupid titles in games when I have nothing better to do, so I really want to get early access, but not if the servers are separate, that's lame
Great video, thank you very much!
Are you kind of forced to participate in PvP at some point or can you play PvE indefinitely?
PvP is the main endgame, but you can avoid it entirely if you want.
I messed with so many different settings and I could not get the game to be unblurry. But overall, the game is pretty awesome.
Very helpful video. Ty brother. Cya in a week
@0:25 you're a plague doctor Harry!
Let me save you time
I have played 1200 hours i give this game solid 8/10
Gameplay is fine monetization is great lots of things to do 10+ dungs world bosses 4000 players pvp (it’s a chaos lol) dung hard modes enchancing crafting most importantly boob slider!
Give it a try game is soft p2w btw
I’ll for sure be playing… seems like it will be fun with friends even if it’s not the best thing ever
love that bosses actually have mechanics... idk why big arpg games cant implement anything like this only korean games
for me it looks like wow (especially the combat) but with realistic graphics and thats what i always wanted
Is there a way to aim a bow and do more damage by getting headshots?
Can you zoom in far enough to appear first person and have an "action cam"?
if there are no season, no alting then im jumpin in for sure, looks good even tho i dislike the combat system , maybe it grows on me with time
That fact that we don't have any voice options for our character is so irritating. EVERYONE sounds the same.
I hope they implement voice options soon. Very soon
You lost me at "Korean". Without watching the video, I expect egregious monetization at some point.
that squid game puzzle scene just sold me on this game💯😂😂
Most helpfull review so far!
Really good game, Amazing graphics and really good gameplay pvp, story, world is interesting to explore and feels amazing when you travel
Excited to play this on xbox, thanks for the review
Love the idea of waiting for the regular servers .
Same seen bad reviews I said screw it let me try it an 35hrs later im blown away how good it is an fun 09/12 let's go
The monetization in this game doesn’t seem to be any worse than it is Warframe.
also seems that if you are dedicated enough to the grind you can play this game 100% free
Will the Pre order bonuses stay after release? I want to try the game and want to the Wyvern but don't want to pay 99$ if I don't like the game.
Great video and much appreciated, however regarding combat, you didn’t mention your opinion on Skill Expressions. Was it present in the OBT?
If it''s the system where you can change the skills, that wasn't included. Looks interesting though.
actually...if you're on an early access server, isn't it at least a tiny bit less likely to have bots? maybe...maybe not... :P
I'm going to try this game tonight once I'm home from work 😅😅
Its hard to shit on the monetization system because it sounds literally just like Warframe's Platinum. As long as its reasonable to grind out the premium currency.
Why does this game look like the only pay to win i would ever play lmfao
This game looks pretty good. I just might have to give it a try
I felt that the melee felt "on rails" in terms of it felt clunky to attack enemies when your skills forced moved you. I didn't hate it, since I saw potential... but it didn't keep me that invested sadly. The graphics are lovely thogh
Tip: u can turn "auto move on attack" Off in menu ! 1st setting I changed :)
Loved the beta, buying.
From Lost Ark to Throne and Liberty! See ya'll in NAW release.
I absolutely love this game
And i can already see people going "oh, but those are different companies, u can't compare that."
Ok Kevin, let me tell u something.
Whatching review of a f2p game is crazy ! Just yourself go and see everything about it.
Yet here u are lol
game is super fun i just hope they optimize it a little bit more
Only thing I hate is the battle pass system. It should be paid by subscription. That way players can invest in the content for certain. In return, we get a great game as good as FF14. Non-FPS Battle-pass games don’t have longevity. Allow us to invest fully in the game.
The payed currency you can earn as a free to play player sounds good to me. Sure its p2w but so are most mmo's today including wow.
I believe guilds can control castles and that alone is just competitive gameplay to keep castles or get castles at least those players will stay for a bit
I live in Morocco and I don't have this game available in my region lol.
Comparing the pay to win of this game to the WoW one seems exaggerated to me.
In WoW, buying golds is only usefull for the crafting part of your gear, witch would otherwise require something like 10 hours of farm per character i would say... (probably less but im very bad at this)
So buying a token will free you this time consuming task for 5-6 characters i'd say.
RIP
The wow comparison also doesn't hold up because it's still easier to catch up to at the very least hard mode raids quickly in about 6 weeks. If this is the exact same then I'll eat my words on a sandwich but seems unlikely.
It's lineagelike game which was a king of p2w and grinding.
since this is a beta, will our progress lost and start from 0 all over again when the game launch officially, or can we continue from where we left off?
My question is, and nobody seems to know the answer, is it strictly a PvP MMO or is there a lot of PvE like dungeons and raids?
