I can't believe I've never heard anyone mention this before: using one of those $5 vibrating toothbrushes from walmart (or wherever) works REALLY great for cleaning stuff like throttle bodies etc. Spray a little brake cleaner in there and flip the butterfly open, the cheap vibrating toothbrush will clean all that gunk that's built up in just a few seconds. Works great for getting in all nooks and crannies really.

When I saw this video I knew that the clogged port was the probable cause of the P0403 engine fault in my 2000 Chevy Malibu! I am not a mechanic, but as a data scientist, I felt that I had probably found the problem, LOL! I fixed it! Thanks!

Thanks for posting. I have a mechanic next door business. I just asked him about the whole you unclogged. He said its unrelated. I cleaned everything else. But I did not guess that low whole was related to the egr. I will cean it out now. Damn the whole work to get to it again but worth it. Thanks for your video...

OMG! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You are a Godsend!!! I have an 05 Buick Century and I've been looking everywhere to find out how the EGR passage goes into the engine. I tried to run a line through the small opening where the valve attaches and it would not budge! So that must mean that the whole passage way is clogged. This helps tremendously!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!

    Love your videos
You have helped me a few times from your vid. Thank you. I'm a single mom, can't afford to be ripped off at the autoshops. So I always youtube. Everything to see if I can do it my self. I love your videos cause they show me exactly all the steps I need to do before getting to the actual repair. Being I don't know shit about cars. The detail you provide is a much need service.. Other videos just show me how to do it. So when I see you come up in my thumb nail, I feel a lil relieved. I know itll have the detail I need.
So much appreciated thank you very much keep making the videos!

I want to say thank you for posting this video because I've been trying to find out how to get rid of this code and how to fix this problem due to the fact that I have to same exact car that you did the video in and I'm having issues where the car is feeling like it's not getting enough fuel or enough air. I have changed all the sensors. But once again thank you because this video is helpful and I'm going to work on my car right now to let you know the results

I have a 2003 Buick Century 3.1. We replaced the air filter, the mass air flow sensor and the EGR valve. We also cleaned the air filter box, the air intake tube, the throttle body, and the EGR valve ports. We checked all vacuum lines which are working fine. After 212 miles the engine light came back on with P0401 code again. Any suggestions about what to do next?

How did you get rid of the nut at 2:39? I tried removing the hoses but they’re too rusty and i don’t want to end up ripping them.

    • @RobertDIY

Robert DIY i also just did this on a 3.1 2000 chevy malibu
i didnt need to take the throttle off
      heres how i did that.
take off egr and air intake hoses
i used a pry bar and opened the throttle body to max posistion and kept it open so i could access the ege valve hole.
      removed egr valve
i had taken my break bleeder hose, shoved it in there from throttle side and filled the entire thing up with brake cleaner untill it ran out the egr side.
then i put a coat hanger on an electric drill and rammed it up the egr valve side and on reverse setting i then drilled untill it popped up the intake side
turns out my egr was shorted and getting no signal
