Honestly I think Maya was stupid and impulsive. What she did was wrong. But I can see how a person makes a dumb mistake. Doesn’t think something through. That’s human. Where I think she truly messed up was by not telling Carina she’d done something dumb enough to effect both their lives and the life of the child they were trying to create.
Maya didn't make a mistake. Attempting to blackmail someone is a decision. She made a bad decision and she's suffering the consequences. She's needed a therapy for a long time so hopefully, she'll make the steps to heal because she's fucking up her life.

Maya blackmailed chief Ross saying that she knows that Chief Ross and Sullivan are sleeping together and she will report them if she doesn’t get her job back. And of course she didn’t tell Carina and because Beckett and some other people were treating Maya bad and kept her on cleaning duty, and she has been behaving weird at home as well (On top of that Jack left, and Jack and Carina were finally in a good place to the point where he was their sperm donor),Carina went to fight for Maya and tell Beckett that it’s not fair to treat Maya this way, Only to find out from Beckett what Maya did and a whole 6 months later. Which means, everyone knew except the only person who should have known first and the most important one, her wife. Now Maya is just going back to her old broken ways and kinda behaving like her father.
