      As a Kiwi and many here had written the Aussies off before the start because of so many changes I would say that was much better than a decent tussle. To come back from 31-13 down to almost steal it at the end showed what we all expect from an Aussie team. Guts and determination Too many yellow card ( one could easily have been red ) and stoppages marred the game but in the end was a game too remember. I was surprised Nick White didn't swipe his face and fall over unconscious for a penalty at that last scrum which would have been more sporting than blasting the ref for doing his job.

    • @austingtir
      @austingtir Год назад +5

      I thought the ref helped the aussies into the game ALOT. The scrum walking around penalties were just bizarre and it was a total mess as soon as he called that first one that the aussies walked around. (how is that legal??? iv seen the ab's get pinged for that years ago and never seen it since really). Then just bizarre calls going both ways throughout the game. It just seems to me whenever we get an obscure NH ref the game turns into a total lolly scramble like the first argentina test. I feel for the aussies over that last call but I actually hope the refs start reffing it like that more often because too much obvious time wasting does go on in these test matches..... that call just came from very left field because we've never really seen it before but I reckon all the refs should be doing it like that.... but thats the problem they wont.

    This ref seems to often be involved in games where there are serious controversies. He also reffed England v Wales in 2021 with 2 very controversial calls. Right or wrong calls, they attract huge amounts of attention to the ref and often huge amounts of uproar. The best referees keep the game going. It is not just about decisions, it's about facilitating how the game is going to play. If Nigel Owens was on the whistle, he'd have given Foley a serious talking well before they wasted too much time, rather than make a game altering decision. Therefore the game would still have flowed and we wouldn't have divisions and uproar. I don't care if the decision is right or wrong. The referees should be making decisions to facilitate the game's flow rather than call huge attention to themselves. Laws are most frequently revised due to safety or to create a flowing game. Referees should be trained in principles with their decision making and not just laws. I'm not Australian btw.
