Dorothy's line about Blanche depending on the kindness of strangers is both savage and completely underrated!

This show was so ahead of its time, for so many reasons, and there won't be another show like it. Perfection.
Blanche's charecter was so well written and fleshed out..
The idea that someone having a consultation about being artificially inseminated would invite their mother, their mother's two roommates and their mother's roommate's mother is hil-ar-i-ous. 😂😂😂😂

Well it explains why in the full episode. Rebecca asks Blanche to come and talk to the doctor to get her more on board, when Blanche is talking to the other 3 she asks them to be there for support and Rebecca agrees to it. I can see why its silly out of context though lol.

@@rethablair6902 I can’t imagine Rue playing Rose either. I think Bea Arthur had some Dorothy in her, Estelle had some Sophia in her. Betty White had some Rose in her and Rue had some Blanche in her too. Which made the show so real and poignant.

I meant controversial in that Blanches character was not done by a young actress, instead she was an older women showing viewers that being older didn't stop you from being sexually active
@@jsanto210 For that time I agree with you. TV unfortunately rarely holds up a mirror and shows characters to which viewers at home can identify. So I agree with what you said that it was a controversy for the big TV bosses at that time to display four actresses playing vital Sexual women. I was a 30 year old male who watched the show almost every week. Most 50 years old older women though are like Blanche though. So I and my friends didn't see controversy we just saw an entertaining show that most viewers could relate to. I hated a lot of the controversial topics. Also after season 3, the show's quality significantly decreased. We liked the show for the actresses and the comedy

RIP Estelle Getty (July 25, 1923 - July 22, 2008), Bea Arthur (May 13, 1922 - April 25, 2009), Rue McClanahan (February 21, 1934 - June 3, 2010), and Betty White (January 17, 1922 - December 31, 2021). You will all be missed a lot.

The genuis of the show was how the writers and producers included the complex and dynamic familial relationship each of the women had with their own blood.
I think of all the girls, Rose's two daughters shown are the absolute worst. For her to be so sweet and kind-hearted to have such witchy daughters is actually unbelievable. I guess those apples fell very far from the tree.

I kinda liked how the show doesn't have Clayton act like a stereotypical gay man it was a nice thing to see and watching Blanche not understanding him that seems like a real thing that would happen .

I will be turning 40 years old on the 22nd of this month, and I wish that I had friends, I love watching the Golden Girls, it brings me a little bit of happiness, I am not close to anyone in my family, unfortunately, I feel like I have been an outcast, the black sheep of the family, although I have two children, I still feel alone, when they are sleep, I really don't have anyone to talk to, sorry for the long comment, I was beginning to cry because I wish I had people in my life like the Golden Girls, although this is a tv show ( uploaded on RUclips) , I hope that I will be able to grow older graciously, like the Golden Girls , enjoying my days on earth with happiness and surrounded by love 💕

The writers, the cast, the setting....utter brilliance. They touched many subjects that at the time were taboo (yes, I'm dating myself) and hard to approach. Thru their comedy and delivery they made it all alright and ok to talk about. None like this show...ever.

Big Daddy had “mad game” for a man his age. He was getting girls 40+ years his junior at his advanced age. Big Daddy would have been in his late-70s to early-80s (at the youngest) during The Golden Girls tv run.
