I originally felt the handling was quite similar to Dirt 4 but I don't think that is the case. The handling in 3rd person mode feels a bit like Dirt 4 but in cockpit view I think it is a big improvement over the Dirt Rally series. Tarmac physics still aren't perfect but definitely are an improvement from Dirt Rally 2.0
I tried out more car/stage combos than I had since making this video and I came across a match made in heaven.
I took a Lancer down a long stage in Greece and it was absolutely awesome. After doing that stage combo I can appreciate the way people are hyping the game up so much. Its not perfect but I think its their 1st game in this series and its a great base for them to work off and improve upon for future titles. The game is very forgiving, but that might not be a terribly bad thing.
The frame drops in the game are a big issue and can ruin an otherwise flawless run, and this can be especially frustrating if it happens near the end of a 30km stage!
We finally have our hands on the game, and in this video, I give my first initial thoughts on the PC version. whether or not they should get this game, to have a look as many reviews you can and bear in mind that it is catered towards everyone being able to enjoy it and not just for the fie hard RBR style rally fans out there.

First it is great to change your mind and write it here down. For me the same, the first two three ours I was disappointed of the handling, but that changed with every our I go especially on gravel and find the most thrilling cars the Group B RWDs on gravel…
My 2 Cent to the Physics and Stages in EAs WRC 23: There is a big difference between gravel and tarmac for me. Absolute great are the gravel physics!! For excample the old Group B RWD cars, that I drove for 90% in the game feels soooo awesome on gravel. Couldn’t get enough of driving them! But never mind what car you like to drive on gravel, you have to get deep into the gravel physic’s. They are brilliant👍👌🥰🙌!!! I am sure most people who said that the gravel physic’s are wheird, ugly, Arcady and so on aren’t going deep enough to them or aren’t able to get so deep as needed, not deep enough to feel the fine details, especially at the limits. For me these (gravel physics) are the greatest physics I have ever experienced in my over 20years of doing Ralley sims, and I play every title that comes out on pc, at least for a few ours, others over 500ours.
The gravel stages, for excample Kenia, Pacifico, Ociano, Greece, Finnland, Mexico, Sardegna, Estonia and Chile are soooo different in every kind and aspect, all of these have an absolute different feel, different Grip level, different lay out and they are all a very big challenge to drive at least if you will be that fast where you come to the real limits of stage/car combination. And for me they are also the most realistic ones I drove so far.
Also the FFB on gravel is the best one I could experience in an Ralley title so far if you go deep with all their settings to set it as you need and like it, which takes me over 2 ours to get the FFB absolute perfect so it comes with a lot of fine information and all information you need to be fast👍👌… Fore sure you can life with the standard settings out of the box but you doesn’t have the whole perfect experience that you could get from it👌!!
On the other side the Tarmac situation (at least for me!): The tarmac physics are not the best ones, way to grippy with this rail feeling, the incalculable break out of the rear situations and so on… Now it is the pure opposite of the butter sliding feeling of DR 1 and 2.0, don’t know which tarmac physics I dislike more🤔…
The stage design of a lot of tarmac stages, for excample Croatia, are soo boring!! The stages there are so wide with thousands of same curves, everywhere the same harsh grip level and also the same tarmac structure, absolute smooth tarmac looks and feels like black ice, no bumps or things like that… Please Codemasters look how KT Racing makes in WRC Generations Croatia to one of the most thrilling stages on tarmac👍👌!! WRC 23 Croatia is sooo boring😥😤…
KI is also very broken, but carrier isn’t the most important thing for me. To be honest never testet carrier after over 30ours in the WRC 23 game…
The actual performance is also a big problem cause of the stutters, but only one per stage for me, when I drove it second time, I mostly don’t have any one. On the other side it runs really fine with an very old PC with an vintage I 7700k (which is two generations under the minimum specs!) in combination with an new great RTX 4080 I have round 80FPS with the most settings on ultra on 3440*1440.
If there are performance problems for you, set off mirrors in Cockpit View(you don’t need them in Rallye) and set the reflections to the lowest(you wouldn’t see any difference while driving) and for sure, you will have at least round 20fps more, only by changing these two settings👏🏻🙌👍!!! Try it and you will wonder!
Overall: For me EAs WRC 23 is the best (GRAVEL!!!) Ralley game ever released on PC. I am really in love with it and I am shure I will play it for over 1000ours👍👌😍- on gravel !!! Please try it yourself! It is amazing!! All reviews are going from hate to glory, this one here, comes first very hard to the handling but as I said I have First same thinkings…. But for sure everyone have to test it by them own…
These are as said, my 2 Cent to an absolute great gravel Sim I have ever waited for👍👌😍♥. Now Codis, after showing us how Gravel have to feel in an Rallye Sim, it is the right time to try to make also an really nice tarmac Rallye Sim too for us… (sorry for my ugly English - I am from Germany…)

@Schub69 I agree with you 100% I was slightly disappointed at first with the physics but I think you really need to dial in the FFB on your wheel and try out the various gravel stages. The cars move around so well on the gravel surfaces. It is really awesome to drive all types of cars on gravel.
I don't always get it right with my 1st impressions, but they were my honest 1st impressions of the handling. I will always be the 1st to admit if I got it wrong.
I think the view you use alters the feel of the handling also. Third person view has an "arcade feel" to it but the cockpit feels just right and the cars handle so well on the gravel. Just as you would expect them to in real life.
The tarmac, for me, is better than Dirt Rally 2.0 but still missing feeling in the tyres.
The car sounds add so much to the feeling of speed, especially on the really fast stages where you can max out the top speed. So cool 🙂👌
I agree with you about each gravel stage feeling different. The same car can handle differently depending on what gravel stage you are on which is awesome.
I also did a bit of the career and I never changed my tyres for the first 6 or so stages and my grip levels were awful as my tyres wore out. That was really cool too!
You have to tune the ffb yo your liking. It is a personal preference but I like my wheel to be as light as possible while still being able to feel what the tyres are doing so that I can make fast adjustments. When driving on gravel and loose surfaces in real life, the steering wheel feels loose. That is how I like my ffb too. I don't like to be wrestling the car around bends, especially on gravel or snow surfaces.
I think for the tarmac physics, it is impossible to know when the tyres are going to lose grip. I thought it may be how I had my ffb set up but I can't seem to find a setting where I can feel when I have pushed to hard. You have grip complete grip 1 second and the next you have no grip. I prefer it to Dirt Rally 2.0 though I think.
Once I found out how good the gravel stages were, I didn't really do much more on the tarmac ones. I am the same as you. I like narrow stages, not big Autobahn style roads😅👍
I will try turning off mirrors and reflections to low and see if it improves the framerate for me. Thanks for the tip 🙂👍
I agree about the gravel physics. I am telling everyone that hates the game, to try out some gravel stages with various cars. I know it is hard for some people suffering with the frame rate to try and enjoy the game, so I can see why they are frustrated with it.
Thank you for your in depth opinion on the game. I think you are spot on in what you are saying and I am delighted you gave the game a chance even after you were 1st disappointed like me, and now you are loving the game!
Your English is better than mine, and I am supposed to be fluent in it 😅👌 Thanks again, my friend. I appreciate you taking the time to give your opinion 🙂👊

@footdownracing really good and honest analysis of the game so far. I remember your video comparing sounds in DR 2.0 compared to WRCG. Glad they nailed sound in this. The scenery in this game looks great.
Sounds like we need Kunos to take what they’ve learned in ACC to make the next rally game for us. A true rally sim.

Cheers man, the biggest problem with the game is, is the framerate and screen tearing. When it comes to the handling on the game, it's actually a big improvement of DR2.0. I've tweaked my force feedback settings and it's made a big difference. The view you use rally makes a difference to the handling/physics. The cockpit definitely handles the best, and the 3rd person view handles a lot like Dirt 4, in my opinion. The more I play of it the more I like it. The stages are so cool in this one. If they fix the frame and screen tearing we will be in for a treat 🙂👊 I don't think Kunos will get the WRC licence from EA on this. I'm actually loving the game now, even with all its glitches! 👊

Sorry man, I tried to respond to your other messages but RUclips keeps giving me an error when I try to send it so I copy and pasted it here in the hopes you would see it. Now, it has showed up in both comments you sent me! I don't know what is going on with youtube recently for replying to messages. I keep getting errors when trying to reply 🤔 Thanks for the comments 🙂👊

So right about the Dirt 4 handling!!!!! First other person to say that, I don’t actually like it as it feels a bit dead, dirt 2.0 was much better, and had all the assists anyway so I am bemused why they changed it, the rear wheel drive cars are no very boring. I have put the game down now, and doubt I will go back.

Man, I hear what you are saying but I wouldn't give up on it just yet. You really need to setup each car to get the best feel for them. The tarmac physics still aren't right in my opinion. The game is very forgiving when you go off road and hit rocks or ditches. You seem to be able to get away with a lot more in this game. That was done to cater to the masses, I think. I find the view you drive in makes a big difference to the handling, with the best views being cockpit and bumper cam. 3rd person cam has a really arcade style handling feel I think. The stages are really good, though. Even though the game is forgiving, it's actually really tough to get around stages flat out in one piece. Especially the long ones. Concentration levels have to be on point. I was initially disappointed, but after giving it a chance and putting in time to set up the ffb and car setups, I am enjoying it much more. Don't give up on it just yet, brother 🙂👊

physics kinda feel like dirt rally 1.5 to me although i think the original dirt rally is harder. the track surfaces are also far too smooth compared to 2.0. they certainly made it easier for people. even generations and wrc 10 are harder games

    • @footdownracing
      @footdownracing  10 месяцев назад +1

I thought the physics were a downgrade at 1st too but having spent a good bit more time on more surfaces with different cars, I think it's actually an improvement. The track surfaces are quite smooth and if you do happen to hit a ditch or bank, it is very forgiving. I think it's going to be difficult to get a perfect run around these stages in fast cars. The WR times will be tough to beat in this one.the stage design in this is really cool I think. Some of the stages are nearly flat out the whole way which I awesome. I love fast flowing stages. The biggest problem for me is the frame rate and screen tearing. Apart from that, I'm really enjoying the game now. Thanks for the comment my friend 🙂👊

Hi mate i enjoyed your video and you made some great points on the game .. i got the game on early access on ps5 where iv had some frame rate issues.. have a go at driving the metro it sounds awesome and a beast to drive .. enjoying the game overall despite the few bugs .. all the best mate.

Cheers man, glad you are enjoying the game so far 🙂👊. I haven't really played it too much on the ps5 yet. I threw it on for a bit and tried it out with the controller for a while. I find the view you use makes a big difference to the handling. It's very difficult to control the car in the 3rd person view. It feels more arcade in that view than in the cockpit view, in my opinion. There is a great sense of speed when you are flat out in any of the cars, even the slow H1 category, which is pretty cool. I definitely need to put a lot more time into it to get a better feel for the game. Hopefully, they can iron out the framerate issues on all platforms. I'm sure they can. Thanks again for the comment. I appreciate it as always 👊
