I do have a couple requests if you get the time: Manufacturer level builds, showing how you power the machines (in a clean way I’m assuming ;) ) and more use of overflow/manifold system. The exact split way is cool and all, but too much maths for my brain. Thanks again! Wish you best if luck.

    So, as was mentioned in another video of yours, you need to build the sandwich layers before placing your smelters/constructors. You will need to add an extra 8x1 foundation to the bottom of the lowest sandwich foundation and then place your walls. No need to do the middle portion of the 3x5 platform, just the outer edges. Once the walls are placed go through and delete the bottom most foundations and voila...perfect sandwich layer. You can leave a wall off and are able to place it connected to the other wall after deleting the 3rd foundation. You can then place your smelters/constructors. Now that I think about it you may only have to do this for one wall and then connect the rest of the walls off of that one.
    I found I needed to skip ahead in your video for the placement of the walls then come back to the orientation of the constructors/smelters.
    Either way, great video. You have yourself a new subscriber.

    • @Scalti
      @Scalti  4 года назад +1

      The issue with that approach is the sandwich layers above the constructors I believe. By building 3 8x4 foundations, the lowest most 8x1 of the sandwich layer is the lowest you can go so you can’t put in a temporary foundation for the walls. You could always build 1 above that of course. There is always wiggle room in the approach and everyone can add in their own style however they choose. This is all of course in the event I’m understanding your method. Regardless, I value the input and appreciate the feedback to help me improve. Thank you.

    • @mattbrown9488
      @mattbrown9488 4 года назад

      @@Scalti Oh no, you still build the same amount of 8x4's. Just after building those you add the same that you add in the video, but you also need to have a 3rd added to the bottom. This all would be done before placing constructors so there are no clearance issues.

    I only just started playing this game but your builds are the best thing ever. Factories SO satisfying. I hope you keep the videos coming. Just a note to add to this build, I found a recipe for cast screws which can replace the 3rd and 4th floor, instead of 7 constructors for rods and 10 for screws you can just use 8 constructors making cast screws. It still uses the 100 ingots you had put aside for that anyway. Thanks again.

    You are a huge inspiration for me. Thanks a lot!
    I am playing without mods at the moment, so what I experienced when building, is that the AWESOME shop must have are walkways (and wall power poles). Building a T-Crossing on each side of a floor makes things so easy and can later be extended to help traversing up and down through the factory.
    With the wall power poles you can create a little kill switch at the front face or entrance to easily un-/power the machinery.
    I also like to extend the long side of the factory of about one tile to place pillars between the floors, so they don't just magically fly in mid-air.

    So I had the alternate recipe "forged screws" so I was able to eliminate a layer, and add a bit of efficiency. I added one more forge at the base, and since I was bringing in a MK.3 line from a MK.2 miner on a pure node I was bringing in 240 already. I split the 7th forge so it and another were receiving 20 ore/min. So I took one side of 30/30/20/20 up to the screws and was able to do 400 screws/min. Solved a lot of issues with this build!

    • @Scalti
      @Scalti  4 года назад +2

      I argue that one doesn’t need to walk around the upper floors really. Given the nature of the build being designed for a specific quantity, the system is a ‘set it and forget it’ build. Even if you pump more iron into it, requiring upgrading the belts, you are limited by the amount of machines. You very well could overclock them but it’s more efficient to build an entire second building next to this one instead. This eliminates the need to navigate the upper area for future belt upgrades and the like.
      These early game builds are not so much intended to pull from and build more complex components but to provide the engineer the resources to build the bigger factories down the road that produce the more complex components. This factory is fantastic for getting players ready with coal generated power because the generators, water extractors and pumps use rotors to be constructed. When it comes to late game mass production, the superior approach is an array/overflow method that can grow as you upgrade belt capacity. This is at least my approach. There is no right or wrong.
      Edit: Now if you’re referring to the building phase of the structure, my scaffolding video covers 2 methods of approach. The 8x8 double ramp from the AWESOME Shop and the belt scaffolding with ladders on the side.

    I have noticed a mistake(not really a mistake) by balancing the iron rods.
    You can divide the iron rods instead of iron bars so you dont have to underclock the constructors producing the iron rods.
    I divided 1 constructor in 3x5 and merged 10 iron rods to one line of 100 iron rods and the other 5 to the other line of 80.
    So i had 100 iron rods going up the next floor for the production of the 400 screws.
    And my platform is 3x6 for the production and not 3x5 as it is in your video because i have 12 constructors at one floor.
    I hope it was understandable
    And btw i love your building layouts. I also made a building by myself based on your designs with caterium and it is soooo clean.

    Missed optimization opportunity: You could have gotten away with 1 less constructor for further reduced power consumption and fewer load balancing headaches.
    Instead of having 6 constructors in a 5*15+5 array and 7 constructors in a 6*15+10 array, you could have just done 2 sets of 6*15 arrays and split off 10 rods per minute using a similar method used when load balancing the outputs of the ingots. This would create a new conveyor line that would need to be merged with the line going to the 2nd array of constructors, but a little extra belt-work is way less of a headache than trying to match material inputs with machine clock speeds.

    maybe they made some changes or patches of the sort idk but I built this exactly as you did correct conveyers in correct places, load balancing, proper distribution. everything and my factory is like half as efficient as advertised primarily because only one side of the factory even receives enough materials. I got one assembler at the top with 500 screws in it stacked up and the one right next to it is out here with 0? and it needs to pile up a bunch before it makes another rotor. I checked the belts and the constructors for any errors, double checked that everything was connected. I couldn't find anything it looks to me like the way this factory is built just does a poor job of getting the recourses to split efficiently not sure what I did wrong I've rewatched at least 5 times. guess I'm just wondering if anyone else is having issues too? or just me...
    Edit: I should mention that the shortages of materials appear to be specific to the side the assembler is on. For example one side (the side where the ore comes in) Is always low on screws. While the other side is always full on screws but constantly low on rods...

    Hey Scalti, at 14:20 you discussed the underclocking set up for rods. I was wondering if it would also work if you had both the last two set to 10 rods per minute instead of one at 15 and the other at 5. Thinking just for the sake of symmetrical load balancing.

    Everyone that had efficiency problems with the screw constructors connected the wrong rod floor to the screw floor. The their sandwich layers for the screw and assembler floors need the splitter output direction reversed. The video doesn't zoom out to show the orientation of the floors in relation to the miner, and it speeds through the lift connections so it's easy to get the floors turned around and the lift connections mixed up.
    edit: Nevermind. Even with everything exactly like in the video, the smelters aren't 100% efficient. The 80 ingot line is bottlenecked and the 100 line is starved.
    edit 2: I removed the balancer on the smelters to make it a line of 120 and 60 and everything perfect now. 100% efficient. Don't understand why, since the math doesn't add up, but it's been working 100% for a few hours now.

Though I had a question: Is it best to have a factory producing (and stockpiling the base materials) of rods/plates/screws and then dedicating future factories for rotors/etc, or is it best to dedicate all ore to factories building parts like this? Either way, I greatly appreciate these videos of yours, and hope you contine in the future!

      Stockpile. Always best to have items on hand and ready to use. If you end up allocating resources to other things, your needing them later affects the factory line.
      You can always overflow buffer too. I’d like it up as it’s hard to explain. Effectively it’ll allow you to store your items and then once full it will send the rest to an item sink. This way your factory never shuts down and you leave resources to gain points from on the table.

      Currently doing this on Twitch for a couple reasons. Gives people a chance to engage directly while I play and work out logistics or math and have conversation about why I do something a particular way. Second is time. If I played the game and did a let’s play then I’d spend a lot more time that what I have available to go back and edit all of the gameplay footage together.
      I’d suggest following me on Twitch to see that other side of my content if curious. I stream at least every Thursday from 8PM-12AM EST (tonight) and potentially on the weekend here and there if time allows.

      @@ScaltiBrilliant, I'll be sure to do that. If you don't mind my asking, how do you build these vertical factories of yours without some sort of flying mod? I've tried, but failed miserably...

      Observation towers. Blade runners help too. I’ll be building some stuff tonight so would be a good opportunity to see first hand.

    Watching this on repeat while having a spreadsheet by me, trying to determine how I can rig this for the alternate Copper Rotor Recipe. Obviously substitute the Iron Rods with the Copper Sheets, but somehow I am unable to process how it would become efficient.

    Very beautiful designs. Is there a specific reason you go for load balancing instead of overflow?

    • @Scalti
      @Scalti  4 года назад

      It’s a hybrid situation. I load balance by floor instead of by machine. This keeps it a little more organized and given it’s likely the player is only up to MK2 belts, overflowing 180 iron ingots doesn’t work well.

    At 14:49 how come you go for an underclock of one of them to 5 rather than underclock 2 to 10. I guess it would be the same, it just feels like you're all about symmetry :-)

    It's an awesome build, really! But will you do a build with an alternate recipe? Like iron screw casting. The 20 screws per 5 iron bars.

    • @Scalti

      I am doing vanilla recipes first across the board and then doing alternates. This is the current game plan anyway.

    Really great guide and neat and orderly design. I think even you said it but I am thinking most of your guides are great for early game since they are all pretty low output. I tried this game a failed when it came to scaling up.

    • @Scalti
      @Scalti  4 года назад

      The nice thing about this design approach is to scale up means just building a second factory next to or near the original and using the same ore node(s) with increased output as you unlock better miners and faster belts. Additionally it also enables you to know what good base value outputs you can have (e.g. 240 iron ore makes 20 reinforced iron plates). So if you need a particular quantity you have a more immediate idea of resource requirements

    like to see these kind of vids with no mods, done the legit way many are doing to see how it goes

    • @Scalti
      @Scalti  4 года назад +2

      The only reason I don’t record them without mods is because the videos would be a fair bit longer than needed. My focus is to show the build and let the audience use what strategy they feel best. I’ve also made a video showing the methods I use in my standard play through without mods as well.
