Masculinity and Disability

  • I want to really address this idea of masculinity and what it is to be a man. It can be so easy for the out dated ideas of what a man should and shouldnt be to leave you feeling at odds with your own masculinity as a young male. Being disabled doesnt make you less masculine and I want to talk about why this can sometimes be one major factor in the difficulty when identifying as disabled and also retaining your feeling of masculinity.

This made me think about the social idea that disabled, etc people aren't sexual and/or can't be attractive to others. And this ties in with the idea that men must love sex, and if they don't, there must be something wrong with his "vitality" and energy and ability to be a "real man". So if you think a disabled man doesn't want sexual experiences, you may also think disabled men are less manly.

Being a gay young male is great - the entire masculinity spectrum is your oyster. :D
And you're just about as masculine as I could handle :-P

This video was awesome and really helped me understand my own internalised ableism about my disability. We need to talk about disability and masculinity more in society.

Hello, I'm Daniel, I had a motorcycle accident once and my left leg wasn't broken. What happened to you, and why is your leg always wrapped? Can you never walk properly again with it? By the way, you always have totally cool Nike, what size do you actually wear at Nike? (if you want to tell me)? Lg Daniel

Hi Oliver, you often show different shoes in your videos. A simple question: do you always wear sneaker or which do you prefer?
