Natasha says despite her 8-year marriage with her husband, Brenden, being full of screaming, fights, threats, name-calling and pushes to the face, which she calls “muffing,” she still stays by his side. Why is Natasha trying to make this relationship work? Brenden admits he can get anxious, which leads to outbursts of anger, but says he suspects he could have a medical problem. Dr. Phil asks Dr. Bradley Jabour, CEO and Chief of Radiology at Medical Imaging Center of Southern California, to find out if Brenden could really have something medically wrong with his brain. School sports, bike, skateboard, skating injuries and rarely do they even get examined afterwards. Kids get hurt just being kids and then they start driving, car accidents are rampant. my generation didn't have bike helmets, wear seatbelts. Concussions are overlooked. Some head injuries are minor, some are not. But repeated blows to the head are all too common and highly underdiagnosed and they're cumulative. Society is full of undiagnosed brain injuries and the outcomes are now becoming all to visible and maybe medicine is starting to catch up with the football players with CTE and now celebrities with Frontal Temporal Dementia. So many people do not believe you when you tell them that something is wrong with someone you love brain. When you watch someone change so dramatically after a head injury, and YES they can become abusive, but you stay with them because you KNOW it isn't coming from their heart but from their brain. It does NOT make the abuse any easier to take though so I do understand why most spouses or family members leave.

My husband has Intermittent Explosive Disorder because he was beat in the head as a child. His whole family treated him awful and denied any abuse for years Even though they knew his abuser hurt others in his family. I took them his brain scans and went off on them for not taking care of my husband when he was just an innocent child and ignoring his medical needs. We hardly see those people anymore. The diagnosis gave me a way better understanding of what he goes through and how to handle it when he gets upset. It's not always easy because it requires me to master my own emotions but he's a wonderful person and he is worthy of love and care just like he took care of me through all my medical issues. These issues are very real and traumatic brain injuries known as TBI can cause serious problems. If anyone you know gets a bad head injury or has a history of being abused please get them looked at. The physical and emotional scars run deep.

Children fall from trees, bikes, skateboards and playground equipment. Boys tend to play rougher games like football. I had a friend’s son who tripped while playing a pickup game of basketball in college and hit his head on the curb. He was knocked unconscious and woke up in ICU with a subdural hematoma and didn’t remember anything. His injury was severe but how often are injuries less common. Children pick up younger siblings and accidentally drop them. I walked outside with my head down and hit a heavy clay planter pot hard enough to stun me and break the pot. Accidents happen but we tend not to think think they are serious unless you end up in the hospital. It doesn’t necessarily point to child abuse.

Dr. Phil: Although it’s heartbreaking to get a diagnosis of brain injury, at least now he’s in a position to get neuropsychiatric help to begin his neurorehabilitation.
I’ve known a LOT of people whose lives were able to be improved incredibly after getting the specific diagnosis and the right help.
There are still many people out there who believe that old lie, that anybody who receives a brain injury after the age of four years, is essentially mentally challenged for life. It’s really important for that man and his family to know that while he may always struggle with certain aspects of functionality subsequent to that injury, he and his family can come a long way to recovery from this, and that many of the biggest steps can be achieved inside of a few months of getting started.
My heart and prayers go out for this couple.

My son has small tumors that causes his anger issues. Before he knew of them he tried so many things to help himself even signed up for the Air Force.
He was awarded a War Hawk, ranking 3rd most fit in like a huge number of people (forgot what it's called,lol..) He was so sick he hadn't been to the bathroom since before he went to boot camp until the end of it.
Tim ran with tore up infected blisters he had barely any sleep he was cross eyed in his photos from it but he made it through probably would've ranked #1 had he not been so ill. He even ranked high scores in the written tests as well. Im So proud of him!
He thought the military would fix his anger issues but it was too hard he was getting angry there too. He just couldn't handle it permanently without help when he got out he got a brain scan.
That guy reminds me of my son. So sincere about not wanting to be angry going through so much to get better.
My son is even on BP and psych meds now both meds make him exhausted and make him feel like a shell.

Everyone wants to hug the man. What about his wife who has been emotionally, mentally, and physically abused for years by him? Yes, they found a "cause" of some kind and hopefully he'll get help, but she could have been killed or her children seriously harmed with some of the dangerous and violent things he did. I'm very glad they found that something is physically wrong that potentially explains his behavior. I truly hope he gets the help he needs. But let's not forget the victim of his rage and violence too. I will be praying for every person in that family.

Jenny, It appears you fail to realize that HE is the primary victim. whatever his wife had endured (and now, obviously his children, too) she is now able to walk away if the challenge is too great for her, but he is left to confront the problem for the rest of his life. His children may be straddled for years as well with therapy of one kind or another, but their options are clearly more optimistic than his.
