Dandy, the Flower

- A young man named Charles finds himself talking to a dandelion.
This is a short film I wrote in the fall of 2023. Thanks to some great film student buddies, we shot this in the spring of 2024. It has played at the Fort Smith International Film Festival and the Arkansas Cinema Society Filmland Festival at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art. The film is also on Retrospective of Jupiter, which is an online film festival that includes many great short films and commercials. The festival has an audience award for favorite short film of the month. You are most welcome to check out the film there and vote for this film if you'd like. I am most proud of what the cast, crew, and I were able to accomplish for this little film. I hope you enjoy!!
The film was shot on my Canon Rebel t4i that I hacked with Magic Lantern software to shot RAW video.

remarkable really. simple and slow paced. Sincere and charming. I think many would see the end as dark, but it seems more melancholy to me, a bit humorous but more a nod to the reality of life. Things, even beautiful ones, come to an end, and Dandy's "short life" as she says is not unexpected, but actually what brings value to her beauty and what seemingly nudges her to reach out to Charles in the first place.
I also like the thought that Charles has seen that particular dandelion on his way to class and the subconcious of his mind placed her in his dream suchly. Maybe his smile in the finale was the realization of this, he created Dandy and ultimatley he knew what was true of himself without an outside influence.
