  • After our search for Paardeberg Nature Reserve, which unfortunately ended in disappointment, we travelled through Malmesbury which is in the heart of the Swartland. It was sad to see the state of that old damaged thatched building. We were happy to hear that the Town Council is planning on renovating it sometime. Dassenheuwel Farm Stay was fantastic. The history of the place, the tortoises, springbok, zebra and reindeer were a real treat and we enjoyed every moment! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #malmebuy #dassenheuwel

I hope you didn’t hit your head again after the first time! They need to have a warning sign for tall folk! Otherwise, it all looked rather lovely being a guest on their farm and was a treat to see real Reindeer! And baby tortoises as well as their large parents.

🤣 No, fortunately I hit my head only once on that particular day! Tortoises are one of our ultimate favourite animals and to see them in all sizes there, was a real treat! It was fantastic to see the interesting collection of other animals they have there too and a really nice place to stay. The farmhouse was super comfortable and we loved that wraparound porch! That homemade bread was still warm and didn't last very long! 😆🍞

Loved it. What a pity that the beautiful thatch cottage roof was all caved in. I really hope someone restores it back to its original condition. Farmstay was so special. Beautiful area.

It was really sad to see those gables lying on the ground, we too hope it gets restored soon. Our host actually told us that the restoration of the building is in the works, but there was a delay at Heritage. We haven't been back since January, hopefully the work has begun already. 🏛️ Our stay at Dassenheuwel was fantastic, we just loved the tortoises of all sizes! 🐢

Hello there! We love the dry heat of the Karoo in places like Vosburg, Loxton, etc. We travelled there in winter though, so it's hard to say. The coastal towns like Betty's Bay and Sedgefield have moderate weather with a breeze blowing in from the ocean which helps cool them down in summer. I hope this helps! ☀️💨

@@DustBugsTravel just places that are not so overwhelmingly hot 🥵 that is comfortable.

It'll have to be towns along the coastal areas of the Garden Route then. Knysna, Plett,, etc. 👍🏻🌊

Hi. Great video and lovely footage. Was wondering what camera are you using and is it mounted on something as you're moving it?
