- We decided to visit Spier Wine Farm as one of our first stops. We saw some owls in their bird enclosure, but unfortunately it was closed for the day. What really messed with my brain was the interactive sound sculptures which were formed 260 million years ago from fossilised volcanic ash. I still don’t quite understand how that works! Jenna Burchell, the artist, found 12 of them as she walked along this extinction horizon. Definitely worth a visit and will enchant young and old. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #spier

Amazing trip guys! And the "singing" rock....absolutely phenomenal!
The vineyards are spectacular and the scenery gorgeous!
Thank you again for sharing your travels with us!
I still wonder how that works.
Spier Wine Estate is beautiful Wow!!!!!
What an experience…….singing rocks😳😳😳😳
Wow that was fantastic I never heard of rock that can make sounds truly amazing. Loved the owls so beautiful. Well done !!!
Me too. Still don't know how that works.
oh! I really liked this one. The weather is as I remember! I want more!! Have fun
Stay tuned. More on the way.
The two of you are a great worry to me, I never see you eating veggies!!!!!!😂🙃💕
Thankyou for enjoying my artworks at Spier "the singing rocks". They are actually called Songsmith. If you are ever in the Cape area again there is another Songsmith that is 3tonns big hidden away on the Tygerburg Medical Campus. You won't believe the sound it makes.
Beautiful Strand! July 2019 I was having breakfast in one of the restaurants with that beach in view….simply stunning👌👌👌👌🥰
Well I have been to Spier before but never heard of these interactive sound rocks...will have to go again.
It really is amazing and we were super intrigued by the whole concept. And fortunately there are so many other things to see when one does visit this beautiful place. 🤩 🚗
Absolutely amazing to see those rocks making sounds🤯! I wonder how long they've been there! I cycled through Spier once, about a quarter century ago, and can't recall seeing them.
They are certainly very intriguing. 🤔 If I remember correctly, the artist did the installation in 2018.
The friendly guy has a Madiba voice😊😊
Psalm 66:4 says that the earth will bow down worship and sing God's praises. It's so amazing because it's not just one pitch of sound it's different pitches really fascinating
Those rocks must be vibranium 😢
What causes them to make a sound???? Could be aliens inside them yhooooo
This is above my level, but I found the following on spier.co.za: 'Each rock’s unique sound were generated from the raw electro-magnetic readings captured from beneath the rock’s original resting place. Embodying a place in time, the resulting sound sculpture sings of its creation and of the land wherein it has existed for millennia - connecting the listener in the present with the rock’s ancient significance.' 😁⛰️
