I use the peak design strap system and just wanted to mention a tip that you can buy a set of just the connectors if you want to have them on all your cameras - it’s listed under the parts section of there website. There is also the ability to buy the Anchor housing with connectors and I have done this to update other straps to the peak design system. I have a Disney strap that I liked to use pre covid when I could visit the parks and love that I could convert it to use the peak design system. Cheers as always for the videos
Great tip for converting existing favourite straps to PD. I might get that kit for my simple strap if doing weddings, thanks
Great review! I use Peak Design wrist strap as well. Very practical, lightweight and so easy to use. Thanks Matt!
Thank you! :)
The M3 is an awesome camera. Back when I shot film I had it and loved the huge viewfinder but preferred my M4 because of the wider views.
Thanks yes I love the M3 for 50mm (+ M2 for 35mm and maybe M4-P for 28mm).
Good subject as it is always a question whether to go with the neck strap or the wrist strap. When that is solved, which brand? I agree, the Peak seems the way to go. Does not have the panache of a leather strap but I just want to hold onto the camera not impress my neighbors.
OK, got one for me and my two Leicas and sent one to a buddy. You are costing me money. The upside is that it is money well spent. You have a good channel without puffery and ego. How refreshing.
Thanks Zoltan, Peak definitely works for me when packing light and multiple bodies 👍🏻
Vi Vante Bengal wrist strap fits the wrist snug while adding support for taking photos. My Matadors, Calibre and Daily Drivers go with me everywhere. I think I’m the only landscape photographer using designer bags for my equipment 😆.
All sounds impressive! It’s whatever makes you happy that counts, even if doing landscapes. (I enjoy nice bicycles to ride even if in the countryside so I guess the same ha)
Thanks alot to present us the Hawkesmill design high quality wrist staps ! Very intresting ! Greetings, Roger ;-)
My pleasure Roger!
Great Video ...Hawkesmill look very nice ... I'll check their products..I 'm a big fan of PD and using tabs on all my camras M10P, CL and M6 with both wirst straps and neck corded or leather straps...
Thanks, Hawkesmill we’re doing 15% off first order and I think free shipping - on first orders
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Wow... I just check they do have very nice bags ....
@@jeromearnould9940 a bit out my price range but yes a bit like Billingham I thought!
Good video and technically well produced - not undercooked, not overcooked
Thank you! I’m still working on not stewing the videos for too long but getting there slowly! (Trying hard anyway!.. it only too 200 videos to see some slight progression ha)
Nice job! I’ve had a Hawkesmill Westminster and Kensington for a few years now, I love them! I am also using a Peak Design Leash, it’s brilliant. Also the peak wrist strap.
I found Gordys to be too thin for my taste.
Thanks Joe!
I have a Peak Design neck strap - or rather, shoulder strap. I'm quite tall, and the Peak Design neck strap can become so long, that I can use it over one shoulder and across the body, and still have the camera hanging at my waist, when not in use. I have cheap textile neck straps for most of my cameras, and a an original Minolta neck strap (blue with the Minolta name in white letters), that came with an SLR and a couple of Canon neck straps, that came with a DSLR, but the Peak Design neck strap, I use for my two favorite SLR cameras. The quality is much better than my other camera straps. It's going to take something extraordinary for me to change my mind about the Peak Design neck straps being my favorite.
Thanks for sharing, I saw PD do a few different shoulder strap versions, different widths etc.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Yes, that's right. I have the narrow one, but plan to add a wider shoulder strap the next time, I need a new strap.
@@NPJensen nice yes wider are more comfy especially with heavier setups
Hi Matt, I've used a few straps and totally agree about the advertising types who are begging to get their gear snatched. And the hippy screaming colour brigade with enough width to also use as a girth strap on a saddle..
Now I use half inch light tan straps from WW2 Vickers machine gun leather accessory bags; very strong, contrast well with any black camera body. Small swivel clips attach it to the body. An 18yo recently commented on my "old" camera (an A7III) on the basis of this strap...oh well..
Thanks, that strap sounds very cool! :)
Have a Hawkesmill on my M240, lovely straps and built to last!
Yes! Great products. Nice.
I stay with the original leica strap 14312. Has 3 of them for M3, M6 and M9.
Thanks, my CL still has the original strap actually :)
I use the black COOPH rope strap, 126cm, for my Leica M3. Works for me.
Thanks Jesse!
For my 3 Leica camera bodies I use from "595 Strapco" the Mocal neck strap. I like its raw design which fits nice with a Leica, especially my mint IIIg 🤤 On my other film cameras and another digital camera i use the 595 Strapco Quick release anchor neck strap which also uses the peak design system. I think i need to travel to the UK again to shop some leather goods since i often find nice stuff over there 😀 💸
Mint iiif... mmm 👌🏻😊 Hawkesmill do free shipping I think if you can’t get to the UK and want one of their straps
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yes mint 😌 and i would go to the uk to buy other leather goods too 😊 there are some nice once in general
@@noeggi nice! You might like today's video.. "nice" iiif cameras get a mention :)
I have to warn about the Peak Design neck straps and a serious design flaw. If you use the anchor threaded to the bottom of your camera it can come lose and drop your camera to the floor. This happened to me in the middle of a event. Thankfully Nikon DSLRs are build like tanks. There are some safety tethers you can but just be aware.
Thanks for this and sorry to hear. Glad camera was OK.
Sounds like they could learn a thing or two from Black Rapid.
@@JoeLopez Yes! much better design in that sense.
@@JoeLopez ah yes I used to use a copy of those with Nikon cameras in the past
I use Peak Design neck straps. I like them. However, their website is American style and adds the VAT at checkout, which makes everything appear to be reasonable until you come to pay. and the price goes up 20%.
Thanks Martin, maybe try the Amazon site for a clear price. That's where I got mine from.
Nice video. What was the brand of camera strap at 3:33. I like.
Thanks, sorry I missed this. Those images wer just some I found online that looked good. I'm not sure tbh, sorry! Looks like Barton or something on the label if you pause it.
The Leica. Cooph straps look nice but they are too rigid and irritate the back of my neck leaving rope burns after a short walkabout. The other alternatives look intriguing 🧐
Thanks for info. Since making this video I’ve used the PD cuff straps more and I prefer my Gordy ones so I will by the PD upgrade kit on Amazon as that lets you make any scrap quick release. Best of both!
i use ropes on most of my m1 m6 and rangefinder fujis, peak design on Olympus Pen, Peak Design on Fujifilm XH1 and Lucky strap for xpro1 (only exception to ropes). I also have this very summer boho strap from Etsy (they have a few good shops there). Some straps are too bling for you? Haha come on Matt.. :)
Haha.. I do like nice straps of course :) .. but I think I rather put the money towards a lens or film :) ..they do look cool though!
how do you set up your Billingham Hadley Digital to carry 2 cameras?
2 is nothing, i've carried 4 haha.. 3 is common, single divider, camera and lens each side then 3rd lens about divider on top lying flat.
Matt! By using a wrist strap you risk putting a fine camera at the end of a pendulum. Imagine my cry of horror as I bash my M3/35mm Summichron into something hard-- unforgivable!
What about a video on the Leicaporn specialty cases from Italia?
Thanks Jeremy, yes another viewer warned me too but we agreed for small light lenses it is not an issue and I dont swing them around. I hold them or in my bag mostly. More for security. Cases.. I don't have any to share i'm afraid!
Peak Design split ring is the best
Thanks. I love the PD anchor system!
Nice strap intro..........................;)
Thanks! I'm still using the same (mostly wrists straps unless an event, then neck straps)
i like domke.
Thanks!
Vi-vante.com has really good straps 👍🏼 and super fast shipping
Thanks for sharing!
Matt I buy all my canera straps from Gordy I disagree with you the way you are using wrist straps. It is much more secure to buy a wrist strap secured to the tripod mount on bottom base plate of leica I guess you have never had a lug break on a leica. It happens and when secured by a single lug is WHEN it happens. Also never change straps, wrist or neck while shooting. It's just a matter of time before the cameta hits the ground. Liked the look of the #2 make and might buy a neck strap from them next m. No shit, I actually cringe when I see your wrist strap attached to a lug. Bad idea. Not sure whether Gordy sells a wrist strap with a tripod mount , seem to remeber they do. Most cameras I ever carry at once is three. Both M"s with different length neck straps and the Barnack with a wrist strap. Nice video. The tripod mount for the wrist strap Carrie's the same gravity of advice as NEVER leaving your camera in the car. Some of us, especially me, learn the hard way
Thanks John, I appreciate your wisdom and experience hear. Maybe something no one else has experienced from the comments so far and I how I see most people using Barnacks. Noted thanks. The counter argument is as someone else mentioned I’m more worried about tripod mounts unscrewing which happens much more frequently in my experience. I think I have more faith in lugs from my experience. I may start to consider the camera/ lens weight if using wrist straps. ..and give my lugs all a wiggle to check too. Great to hear you use Gordy though!
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom It bothers me less with a Barnack than with an M and a large lens. The style you use keeping the one canera on yrou right wrist while shooting a second camera can creates a lot of torque on a wrist strapped M. As for the screwmount coming loose, it is habit to test it after a few shots with your left hand. I have 2 writs straps and they are tight as hell when screwed in and do not leave a mark on base plate. Just warning you. You know what you are doing.
@@johnelder7449 no thank you John, I do appreciate it. Yes I dropped my Noctilux 50 f1 before so I will remember with regards to using certain straps, many thanks.
I like cheap third party and functional neck straps with protectors which are not flat. The flat ones always twist. I am using fiber rod ones which are mingled together like a double helix. I just shake my head about all this hyper priced leather strap market for Leica cameras.
Ona bags much better price/quality ratio than Billingham bags (the latter brand is arrogant enough not to even include the shoulder strap for the bag!)
Thanks ah makes sense about non flat straps I guess. I do t agree on the bags. Well I do in that Billingham are what they are but in terms of function they are better than Ona. I have a new Ona bag still with tags. I should sell on eBay. It didn’t close securely - design fault/ just the design in that can put hand in even when closed.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom love my Ona - maybe we have different models. I have the leather messenger bag with two clips to close. Had it with me on several airplane travels and all the time when doing photo day trips with my Leica gear. Still perfect!
@@MB-or8js thanks, mine is big enough for maybe 3 Leicas, end up..and yes different models must vary. Nice material though.
