  • Since I switched to the mighty Leica SL2 as my main mirrorless camera, I had to figure out which camera strap system would work best for me and my workflow. I prefer to have cameras around my neck most of the time, so they have to be comfortable, but also sturdy. I also use my cameras on tripods and transport them back and forth between home and my studio. I don't really like doing camera strap reviews since it is very subject, but here are the two main camera straps that I've been using on the Leica SL2.

Wotancraft Full Leather PD Strap: bit.ly/3ZmL95C
These are the other straps and bags mentioned in the video:

Cooph double rope strap looks awesome. I love that it does not require metal rings to attach.❤

Amazed how long split ring has lasted. Adjustable length for cross body/shoulder hanging and quick release are 2 must-have features but surprisingly Peak Design anchors and straps seem to be the only one offering both.

That Minolta reminds me of the Himatic C I had and loved.

My RUclips algorithm came up with a whole video for a Leica SL strap! Coming from the M-series, I never considering the SL till a few years ago with a used 2015 SL - ‘the best deal in used digital Leica.’ Carrying/using a larger/heavier camera was my main concern. A good strap solved that carrying issue. The ‘best’ strap? Surprisingly I found the in box Leica provided strap very good. Strong, thin and doesn’t get in the way, and long enough with a curved padded section for comfort carrying on the shoulder across the chest/back, camera to the side. I was contemplating the Arte di Mano just for style, basically a copy of the original but with a leather padded area, but decided not worth the extra cost. A couple side notes; the original SL had recessed lug ‘bars’ which looked and worked well (smooth side grip). The only reason I can think of why they changed to the protruding SL2 style is easier to manufacture. Yes, a plain flat strip of material though the lug is the way to go (like with the M5), and I cringe a bit whenever I see a metal ring strap used on an SL.

Thanks for your thoughts. I also love the original SL and the smoother and cleaner lug design.

My only gripe with rope straps is that when it gets wet it is difficult to dry them fast. Unlike leather straps that you can just wipe them with a towel or a tissue and wear them as you were.

Congratulations on the SL2 I also took advantage of the market prices and picked up a silver edition open box. Check out Rock N Roll straps.

I like the double rope cooph on my SL cameras, but find that the webbing slips over time, so I get some extra webbing and pass it back under the webbing on the adjuster. Impossible to describe well, but basically I have to take extra measures to make sure itʻs not slipping. Due to the weight and difficulty of getting the cooph strap on/off, it looks like Iʻm settling on the DSPTCH strap. The little connectors don't seem as solid as peak design, but I find the peak design connectors annoyingly large. The DSPTCH seems the right balance between comfort and ease of use.

If you live in the US or anywhere outside of Europe, DON’T order factory direct from COOPH. Instead, buy from a local dealer. I returned a strap for a refund because it wasn’t what I expected, and getting that refund required filing a claim with PayPal. While I did eventually receive my refund, the process was a hassle. Their customer service department is slow and wishy-washy; it seems like they might be too busy watching TikTok videos on their phones instead of doing their jobs. I can't believe a large company like Leica would endorse their straps.

Rope strap is ridiculous. Freaking uncomfortable especially for heavier cameras. Love my Rock and Roll Goliath strap on my SL2S and GFR50R.

Like I said, straps are pretty subjective. I know plenty of photographers who prefer rope straps.
