Pegasus: Surveilling journalists from inside their phones | The Listening Post (Feature)

- Here is an offer many governments cannot refuse: do you want to hack into the phones of journalists, gather every bit of data and trace every call, message and keystroke?
Those governments are in luck, as there is some malware - malicious software - designed specifically for that purpose.
This story starts with an Israeli company called the NSO Group. It says it is in the business of "cyber-intelligence for global security and stability".
The company's primary product is known as Pegasus - a programme so sophisticated that it can embed into your mobile phone through just a phone call - even if you do not take the call.
The governments that use Pegasus - from Saudi Arabia to Mexico to India - say they are out to stop "security threats" but it is also used against civil society, including human rights activists.
And in October, WhatsApp sent the NSO Group a clear message: it is suing the company for developing Pegasus to specifically hack people's devices through that messaging app.
The Listening Post's Meenakshi Ravi looks into the growing surveillance threat against journalists and the malware of choice for the governments involved.

Phone manufacturing company should add a manual key to disconnect microphone,camera & gps.
yes but physical switches for disabling the mic, camera and gps will do nothing to stop the spyware from accessing all of the files, emails, texts, messages, photos, contacts, clipboard, cloud drive(s), health data, map data, banking information, etc, etc... ALL of your personal data on the device can be exfiltrated by Pegasus spyware, in real-time.
U are lucky for not living in Saudi Arabia spying on u who killed kids and Women they tried to kill me in the hospital bed because this vid :) !
Since it's Israel nothing is going to be done about it.
Government spying on you is already bad but private company also doing it made it even worse.
Do not lose your sleep. This software costs lot of money. Unless you are a threat to eh society, you have no reason to worry.

I am thinking what would be the possible reaction of our world leader if NSO Group is an Iranian/Turkish/Qatar company, or you can think of some other countries like Venezuela, that might start another non-ending war. But it is Israel Company, so all ok, they are so superior that they can't violate the human right.

Two years ago I received a text message that I traced to a WhatsApp number. The message read “come outside and turn on the light.” It was sent at around 11:30pm... after that my entire phone was hacked. My primary concern was... who and why. Who would expend all that effort and resources to initiate a cyberattack against my smartphone and home internet?
If they watch me, I hope they will see what God wants them to see.

What an up narcissist reporting on such an important story. Journalists had to make this about them when heads of states are also impacted. We barely had anything about that side of the story. The even more important and worrying side in my opinion. This said nothing about heads of states targeted by who, why and since when.
