- Over a year ago, I described Diamond Tiara as my least favourite character. I called her scum. At the end of this episode, I fucking loved her. This is MLP, guys. This is what it can do. Also, the CMC got their marks or something I guess.

During 'The Pony I want To Be' I just want you to remember that the pony singing all about all that insecurity and pain is about 8-10 years old. Makes that song a hell of a lot sadder.
I know :(. Her mother was mentally abusive towards her. Trust me if you neglect your child and teach her to be mean to others purposely you're a bad mother. I dont give a crap if youre having a bad time. You shouldnt have a child if you do this.

I'm up for redemption and all of that, but I'm still salty at my own childhood bullies (because they never apologized) so forgiving Diamond Tiara IS not easy.
@@lonelyscarygirl True! I really wish most of mine (and the current ones) would actually apologize and realize what they're doing is wrong. Out of all them, only one has ever apologized, and this is after she was removed from her abusive home. And I did cut her some slack after realizing the home she grew up in. It's to bad I don't know what happened with her father I moved, but we had become friends after a while.
@@jammington24 well I think that’s the point of the CMC, a lot of ponies were struggling because despite having a cutie mark they didn’t actually understand their role in life.
This actually explains why they couldn't get their marks up until now. They've been looking inward but they really should have been looking outward.
Not to mention, this was a journey they needed to take. Their talents require versatility, and they've got that now.
My Little Pony is the only child's tv show I know of that can bring grown men to tears. This is why I love this show

A sad thing is that I don't think Filthy Rich is fully aware of how Spoiled is raising their daughter. From what we've seen of him he seems like a nice guy. Especially in 'Family Appreciation Day' Diamond doesn't start bullying Apple Bloom until after he gets out of earshot. At the end he is making her participate with the "water singing" and warning her to be respectful. I think he is busy with work leaving Spoiled to raise Diamond. It's an unfortunate situation but Diamond has truly risen above it!
Yeach he's a good guy. His wife is a true evil.
I'm really proud of DT for breaking from her Mom's influence. Mean parents make kids mean. I think her mom is why she's so overly defensive. And honestly she's a child, at that age there's always a chance for change.

+K art Arguably the best episode of the show. I thought they were jumping the shark with Slice of life. But then this aired. This is my favorite episode. It reminds me of why I love this show. I am and I know that I will forever be a proud Brony :D

When I first heard “The Pony I Wanna Be”, the dams broke, I actually cried. Even now after years of hearing it, I always get goosebumps every time I listen to it.
Three things in this show still give me goosebumps:
The start of Diamond Tiara's song, Princess Luna's song as a Hearth's Warming spirit, and the first time Princess Celestia sang.
I love how this show change my mind about character in 1 minute. First Discord, next Sunset, now Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon and later in 6 season Trixie. I love it. I really hated Diamond Tiara but when she started singing song the pony I want to be. I even wanted to hug her and give her hope. Her mother deserves a monthly banishment from mane 6. Maybe this punishment would teach her something. Well prison can change a person, maybe not always but sometimes. At least Diamond Tiara has a good father.
There's people saying that the series will end because of things like this. I think it's pretty obvious that the CMC will still have episodes where they help other ponies get their talents, or at least guide them in the right way. We actually had a hint of this in the episode with the giant pony, lucky horseshoes or something like that.

5 years - 5 long and excruciating years - of hating Diamond Tiara. 5. years.
And yet, with one episode, all that hate for her crumbles away. One episode was all it took. One fucking episode. I still can't get over it, but I sure love it.
Being one of Amy Keating Rogers' last episodes for this show, she sure left her mark in our feels, huh. This season has just been.... how do you even begin to describe this season? Dear Lord this show is amazing.
I'm going to need a paper bag to breathe into, excuse me.
Some day I will watch this episode and not have it bring a tear to my eye.

Anyone notice how athletic the CMC are? Horses (and ponies) have an incredibly difficult time walking backwards, let alone running. (I also understand that it is a song, like how the CMC practically teleport in front of her.

Having completed the series, and not taking anything away from what came after this episode by any means, I still think that season 4 through this stretch of season 5 was the height of the series, capped off by this episode. This episode, for all it did, still has a strong case for being my favorite episode of the series, as well as one of my favorite episodes out of all the series I have watched. I don't know how it would have gone if I was doing reactions back then because I will never forget being completely speechless for the entire last 7 minutes of this one, not being able to do anything but just smile stupidly as it all unfolded. I don't think I could have managed any commentary at the end at all other than something to the effect of "How about that....? I'm completely speechless...."
The worst parents are the parents who beat you, hate you because you are lesbian, gay or bisexual, the worst parents are the parents who force you to be mean and evil. Diamond's Tiara mother is the third example. I really feel sorry for Diamond Tiara now.

This is a fantastic episode. The character development on Diamond Tiara is great. The CMC getting their cutie marks is fantastic. The use of the background ponies is pretty good.
I feel you bro. Waiting sooo long for something like this to happen and then finally seeing it happen before your own eyes is something unique and awesome. I can only recall one other show that did that to me. And that was The Last Airbender.
So you know, I like how this episode gives a LOT more significance to the Troubleshoes episode. A kind of "sneak peek."
I know this episode is 3 years old but it's still a big deal arguably.

To be honest, I found/find it plainly ignorant to hate her. Or anybody for that matter.
Hating Haters just shows how little capable you are of compassion IRL. Not only towards others but yourself as well. And of how little you understand how hurtful people actually work.
It's simple: Hurt people hurt people.
In other words: Diamond Tiara was never just "horrible". That's black/white like thinking. She was confused as everybody is who needs to put others down in order to feel right (or better... you could also say artificially complete and worthy. Too bad it only works for a short time so she needed to strike again soon).
I don't hate on anybody or anypony, and no, not Spoiled Rich either. She's confused as well, which is clearly pointed to by the fact that she has no real friends.
But for people like you who need to hate others in order to feel right (in other words better) in comparison - because that's all hating others is serving in the end - you now have Spoiled Rich.
I don't say you are wrong, by the way. There is no other way to act until that changes because of your insights, just as it was impossible for DT to act differently until she began to clearly see what was happening to her by treating others the way she did.
But anyway. If its so important to you to rant over how horrible a character is just take your hate on Spoiled Rich. Problem solved.

I don't need to hate others to feel right your jumping to conclusions. How I feel about a fictional character does not determine how I look at people irl. I try to be friends with everyone and all I was saying is I'm gonna miss DT being a brat because it was entertaining. And I'm not saying people bullying is entertaining because it _is_ _just_ a tv show. For kids.

It is a big difference to say you were entertained by a villain - but still understanding the tragic behind them - or to complain that you "don't have someone to rant over how horrible she is" which is really lack of compassion, just needing a character that you enjoy to take down, to hate. Which always comes from a need to feel good in comparison.
Let me tell you a little secret. If you don't understand it now, you may one day you do and you will find it incredible helpful:
Everything you percieve, especially how you judge it is your projection. It's not pure, what it presented as your perception is your brains personal interpretation of reality. Therefore your judgement about others mirrors your personal thinking.
No matter if it's what you call reality or TV Show.
You don't interact with the world, you interact with your story about the world, with part of yourself in the end.
Example:
- People who find others childish for liking MLP are suffering from not being able to allow themselves to like stuff if their brain labels it as childish. The thinking that causes them to attack others is attacking themselves in the end. It's like a personal "daddy" in their head that keeps them in check and ultimately limits them.
So the amount you hate others, the world, even cartoon characters is the amount you hate yourself in the end.
The amount you take others down is the amount ... you get the idea.
You can say "It's just a TV show" all you want. The brain works the same way with whatever you percieve, its all a mirror of your own thinking. That's psychological reality.
Dude not going to lie I teared up too. :') 6 seasons so seasons, so totally worth it.

7. I think Amy did something very clever by introducing her mom in the way she did. Now she can be a lightning rod, so most of the fan's dislike for Diamond Tiara transfers to her mother. Get what I mean? I think Amy employed a little bit of viewer psychology there.

8. Even though AJ mentioning her parents didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, it still felt a little shocking to me that they actually addressed it in the show. It was just one more indication of how much our little show has grown up (much like our little CMCs).

on diamond terria’s redemption.
yes i’m happy she stood up to her mom yes i’m happy she’s friends with the cmc and yes i’m happy she more or less apologizing treating them horribly.
however... there’s one person or pony she needs to apologize for
is scootalo.
her insult on her disability is a kick in the face to all disabled people.
making her feel horrible because she can’t fly due to what most people call a disability is a big insult and it hits hard to home for me.
when i was younger there was a kid who used to bully me constantly just because of the fact that i was handicap.
he did years later “apologize” for his actions and he’s one of my best friends i’ve had.
however the difference between him and diamond Terria is because he actually apologized and meanted it.
diamond Terria just realized her mom was a horrible mother and found worth in the cmc.
i don’t see her telling scootaloo she’s sorry for making her feel bad about her not being able to fly.
yes.. her apologizing as a whole would cover that but to me that action deserve it’s own apology.

this is one of those episodes where i am glad i went in knowing nothing about it beforehand, because i thought the conclusion would be "the CMC learn a lesson but keep the status quo" and the ending genuinely took me by surprise

This has been a season of dreams. Rarity opened her boutique in Canterlot. Rainbow got to fly with the bolts in a show. The CMC got their marks. We got to see a glimpse of the lives of the background characters. What a ride... and I am loving every minute of it.
I just realized something the CMC got their Cutie Marks the same way Vegeta became a Super Saiyan after they gave up trying to get them.
We waited 5 years for this
And it was worth it

I'd think it wouldn't be that surprising that there's a 6th season incoming with the caliber of this season (that has yet to end!)
Also, I felt the way as you did in Magical Mystery Cure.
After amending fences, Do princesses dream of magic sheep, Brotherhooves, social, this, and some others.
I think MLP has reached new heights, it has always been not only my favorite show, but arguably my favorite work of fiction ever, but with Season 5, they have shown that they aren't the same as other cartoons, they aren't staying the same or losing imagination, they have managed to not only provide amazing comedy with every episode, but with many of these, tug at the heart as well, Season 4 also did a decent job at this, but season 5 thus far has been the most character focused season of all time, it is near perfection.

It's like if someone went back in time and carefully sabotaged every episode. So maybe Applejack's parents will show up due to a time rift or something.
