Splitting it into two episodes and separating the plotlines of Diamond Tiara and the CMCs would be terrible, because Diamond Tiara had a bigger role to play than you might think, which makes their plotlines intertwined and inseparable. First, her plotline in this episode was a great red herring to distract people enough so that they would defocus from CMCs and their quest for cutie marks. Without Diamond Tiara's subplot, the impact of the ending wouldn't be so striking and surprising. Especially that many people had the feeling that they're gonna get their cutie marks already at the beginning of the episode, but the whole fuss with the election and Diamond Tiara's subplot has distracted them enough so that they forgot about the CMCs and it was a surprise for them as well :) Second, it actually all _started_ from Diamond Tiara! If she weren't laughing at Apple Bloom for not having her cutie mark yet, there would be no Cutie Mark Crusaders at all! It was _her_ who motivated them to start their club in the first place. Third, it also all _ends_ on her. Her redemption was the final piece in the puzzle for CMCs to solve. It allowed them to realize what their true destiny really is. So it was only natural for them to get their cutie marks right after Diamond Tiara's redemption as its direct cause. Now the circle is complete. Even the flashback sequence reminds us about that. So I would say there isn't a _separate_ plot for Diamond Tiara - her story arc turns out to be entangled with the CMC's story arc, and _one depends on the other_. Diamond Tiara inspired the CMCs to start their gang and after 5 seasons she finally inspired them to get their cutie marks. And vice versa: the CMC's attitide and struggle with their quest for cutie marks was what inspired Diamond Tiara's standing up to her mother and finally her redemption. All of that makes their plots inseparable (heheh :P ). From the writing point of view, I declare it a masterpiece. One could still argue that they might simply stretch the story into two episodes, to make Diamond Tiara's redemption more believable. Well, perhaps. We will never know. But for me it _was_ believable. The fact that she turned from a big bad bully into a nice & kind filly who helps other ponies almost "instantly" _doesn't_ make it any more believable! Let me explain why: It's because what happens on the surface level isn't necessarily what happens on deeper surfaces. Notice how it turns out that she really wanted to be a nice pony and have friends, and admired what the CMCs do, she even was a bit jealous. It can be seen clearly in her song, where she admits she isn't very happy with her life she lives at present, under the dictate of her mother. And her bullying behaviour is actually caused by her trying to step along her mother's hoofprints. She just do what her mother tells her to do, and acts how she acts. Notice how her mother speaks about the CMCs when she comes out of the school - almost like you were hearing Diamond Tiara speaking, isn't it? That's because Diamond Tiara speaks as her mother taught her. She models her behaviour, that's all. Another hind we can see when the CMCs invite her to their clubhouse. She admits that she admires what they do, and she seems to be jealous that they still have those options to check, and still can try to find out their true selves, because we know now (from the previous scene with her mother) that this is what she would like to be as well, but no pony showed her how, and her mother is controlling her life to the point that she cannot be her true self. But we can also see that when the CMCs try to explain it to her, she switches to her old behaviour (as a defence mechanism), and what she looks like then? Exactly as her mother! It is the same exact behaviour, and even her nose changes for a split of a second to be more like her mother's nose! This is a sneaky hint! Her mother is literally "blocking her cutie mark"! She even explicitly said to in the episode, when she redeemed: that now she can be her true self and her future is now bright and clear, because her cutie mark is not locked anymore. What locked it was her mother, and it all snapped when she stood up to her mother. This very event, induced by the CMCs, has set her free. It was the last straw who broke the pony's back, so to speak :) And when that happened, her true self has been unlocked, therefore she can behave 180° differently now, because the last thing what stopped her from doing it, is gone. Nice reaction, though, I really enjoyed it :)
+Bon Bon Sorry, I don't have time to read such long comments. All I can say is that a two parter would not mean to split anything, it would all be DTs redemption story. They would have had more time to show DTs home, have more conversations with her and make her struggle more to change her ways

In short: although it mught seem as flipping a switch with DT's redemption, there was more going on below the surface level in this episode which only culminated with the apparently quick redemption, which has made it fully justified at least for me, so it didn't have to be stretched. +BerlinBronyANdy If you ask me, showing more of DT would had been emotional overkill. Seriously, you can see how many people actually gopt the feels fro DT and they only had one half of an episode. If you add her home and whatever it can contain. For example, I'm sure that between her solo and the CMC inviting her to her clubhouse (which the looks of it make it seem like it all happened from a day to the next), she would had probably gone crying on her pillow after shouting to her father in rage and going to her room without a dinner and... bronies would had died in that moment. I mean it.

I love where the "Cutie Mark Crusaders" getting them "Cutie Mark", and Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo help Diamond Tiara for the better life. At first I was for idea of each separate special talent but despite CMC got similar cutie marks each of them is unique. Sweetie Belle still has singing imprint and Scootaloo has bolt and wings so as Applebloom has apple but heart in it (maybe potions).
There is a big problem with making this episode into two parts. It would spoil the big reveal at the end. If we had a two part CMC episode, people would know before they saw it that it was the episode they got their cutie marks. Doing it like this, they can hide that revelation in an otherwise normal CMC episode.
+Princess Luna Yeah, probably they would know but the pacing would have been much better. I like the episode but IMO the pacing of this episode was way too fast. This epsiode felt exactly like "Magical Mystery Cure 2.0" for me. Too much content in too short time. I think it's a good thing that they finally got their cutie marks, but for me it appeared out of nowhere. Too suddenly. it felt if the authors didn't know if this should be an episode about Diamond Tiara or the CMC getting their cutie marks.
I agree that it would be spoiling the big surprise. But i think they could have just used less songs. then they would have more time too develop the plot.
+DamaOscuraDeTodos MMC being two parts wouldn't have helped, just as it wouldn't here. The whole point of a musical is that you can tell a story quicker with music. The pacing would be trashed if either of these episodes were two parts, even if I agree MMC felt rushed. If anything, the flaw with MMC is the coronation is boring. I agree the pacing on this episode is much better, but MMC is still just above this episode for me as the impact of what was going on was bigger - being the mane six. I'd have to say A Canterlot Wedding is still my favourite if I had to choose, but all three (counting that as one) are probably tied as my favourites.
Great reaction video! I love this episode so much it might just be my favorite episode! I've watched it so many times and I still cry when they get their cutie marks and sing that song at the end. I always liked Diamond Tiara and hoped she'd get an episode like this! It was definitely worth waiting 5 seasons for this!
I did a reaction to this episode and it's my first time doing a reaction video of anything. Before this episode I mainly did unboxing videos and travel videos so I wanted to open up to more audiences but I didn't want to lose my older subscribers because of doing reaction videos. So I decided just to use this episode to test out to see what happens. I a few weeks before the season premiere aired I decided to do reaction videos on the show thanks to comments on this reaction video of mine. I even said in my videos that I still plan to continue to do unboxing videos and travel videos along with the reaction videos of MLP it's just a regular basis so I can keep my current subscribers entertained until I do my travel video being they take a while to plan.

I get what you’re saying; I had a similar opinion about Magical Mystery Cure. It would have worked better as a 2-parter, and even M.A. Larson said he would have preferred it that way. With this episode though, I’m not so sure. I don’t know what else they could have done with the extra time. I had no trouble following what was going on, I understood Diamond’s mood swings as they happened, and I was tearing up by the end. In Magical Mystery Cure, I thought the songs were wasting time, even though I’d wanted a musical episode for a long time. Here, I felt like the songs were adding something magical. What a way to celebrate FiM’s 5th anniversary! It may just be the effects of the emotional rollercoaster I’m still on, but I thought everything about this episode was perfect.

Here I would have liked to see the CMCs befriending DT a little more, having a little more conversation and DT to have more stuggling with changing her ways. Her change of heart still feels too fast, especially calling the CMCs her "friends" after spending 5 minutes with them in their clubhouse.

Pondering about this CMC episode being a two-parter rather than a single episode would’ve been good. That’s no longer likely now, but if that were the case, then perhaps the extra time would’ve helped build more on Silver Spoon forgiving DT or Twist (candy cane cutie mark) getting more screen time to take part in the CMC’s success.

Spoiled Rich, an adult, just called 3 CHILDREN confused, insignificant lowlives right to their faces, despite 2 being direct sisters to national heroes, 1 of whom is part of the family her husband is partners with and without whom, Filthy's family wouldn't be as rich as they are today (something Apple Bloom pointed out back in Family Appreciation Day). I get the feeling something happens to her regarding her job after this. Something that rhymes with "packed".
THANK YOU! I thought i was the only one that felt that the redemption of Diamond Tiara felt a bit rushed in this episode. Don't get me wrong, I still loved this episode. In fact, it's still one of my favorites of the entire series. I just wish they could've made the redemption a bit less rushed. Personally, i think they should've done like a quick 2 minute song montage of Diamond and the CMC hanging out for a bit, before Pip showed up, and I think it would've been enough, but it's still a great one. Granted, it's not as great as "Rarity Investigates" (I'm a huge movie guru, so I loved the film noir homage) or "Canterlot Boutique" (surprising considering Rarity is my least favorite out of the mane 6), but I still love this episode a lot. Great commentary by the way.

Spoiled had already had a statue of Diamond made, something Diamond made clear would be done if she won the election and now there's no money in the school's budget for something the students want that Spoiled didn't think mattered as much as her daughter being made to look better. So, if Diamond got the school to spend money on a stained glass window of herself before, where would the money for the statue have come from? And now that Diamond DIDN'T win, there's no money in the budget for playground equipment while the statue has already been made. So where did that money go?
I didn't cry either but is good to see a character development of Diamond Tiara and having the CMC to have their Cutie mark( i sense the fandom-created cutie mark for the CMC ruined).
I don't think her redemption was rushed. She constantly wanted to go back to her old ways, but in many moments, her face most of the time was saf and filled with regret
This episode is the best in the entire series, and will likely remain so until the series ends (Or at least until the 10 year anniversary, though the bar is high). It managed to do something that I both hoped to happen and thought would be impossible to do: Make Diamond Tiara likable.

brony bigtime Not to me. For me, everything works perfectly. In fact, this not only has my new favorite song in the whole series, but also one of my favorite shots in the series as well (the zoom-in and spin shot when Diamond Tiara sings her line "Whatever I have to do to win in the end.").
funcoolfunfun well yes the song is good, not gonna say the best (I liked the ending song better), however there are PLENTY of flaws with the episode. It's fast pace character development doesn't settle well along with their being no antagonist at the school anymore with a dash of stereotypes doesn't settle with me. The resolution, while I think too early in the series, is the best part of this episode. However, opinions are opinions

Spoilers At first I thought DT was really planning on trying to get her position back, especially with what she said before the song started. But when you think of it, how did she have a written statement already prepared for her father just like that? I think she was planning on giving the statement to her father, but she didn't want to admit it, she still wanted to put on the bully front because she still felt insecure. Or maybe she wanted to tell off her mother in front of everypony. Another explanation is that she really did at first want to take her position back, but seeing her mother for who she really is was the final push needed to finish what the CMC started when breaking through to her, and the letter being ready was just a result of the show being a cartoon.

Give it watching Diamond Tiara´s 3 or 4 watching and you´ll end up crying. I agree at first it´s too shocking but rewatching it makes you softer and softer about it. I ended up crying watching the 3rd reaction so yeah :P
I love and hate this Episode at the same time. It's a great plot but all the Songs made it shorter than it should be. But I really love that they finally get their cutie marks. there were actually plans for a cc spin off series, where they help others solve their problems. with this it could become possible
I loved MMC from the start but I still think this episode had much better pacing. I always get kinda bored at the coronation in MMC but this episode I love it from start to finish and it didn't feel rushed to me, which I was actually quite surprised about. Spending more time showing Diamond Tiara moping wouldn't have made it any more believable. Better to do it by song as it helps you suspend disbelief as its already talking to you on a different level, not just what you see.

It was just too fast. I mean she is like super mean and the CMCs arch nemesis for more than 4 seasons but gets redeemed within one episode? I'd be all for a two parter for each redemption. It always feels too rushed for me if it takes only one. But whatever, I can live with it.
BerlinBronyANdy I think the point is that while-ever Silver Spoon was following her lead, she felt unable to change, vindicated in her actions. When it became apparent her behaviour actually drove SS away, she no longer had that motivation. With the CMC then showing they were willing to give her a chance, if she changed her attitude, she relented. She suddenly realised she didn't want to become her mother. So while yes it did happen in a short while in the shows running time, if you look at it more objectively its not completely ridiculous. I can't imagine them ever doing a two-parter musical, but it would be interesting if they did. They struggle to get that right in Equestria Girls with the longer running time. The last one particularly, some of the songs seemed forced and unnecessary.

At first I was for idea of each separate special talent but despite CMC got similar cutie marks each of them is unique. Sweetie Belle still has singing imprint and Scootaloo has bolt and wings so as Applebloom has apple but heart in it (maybe potions).
There is a big problem with making this episode into two parts. It would spoil the big reveal at the end. If we had a two part CMC episode, people would know before they saw it that it was the episode they got their cutie marks. Doing it like this, they can hide that revelation in an otherwise normal CMC episode.
+Princess Luna Yeah, probably they would know but the pacing would have been much better. I like the episode but IMO the pacing of this episode was way too fast. This epsiode felt exactly like "Magical Mystery Cure 2.0" for me. Too much content in too short time. I think it's a good thing that they finally got their cutie marks, but for me it appeared out of nowhere. Too suddenly. it felt if the authors didn't know if this should be an episode about Diamond Tiara or the CMC getting their cutie marks.

The whole point of a musical is that you can tell a story quicker with music. The pacing would be trashed if either of these episodes were two parts, even if I agree MMC felt rushed.
If anything, the flaw with MMC is the coronation is boring. I agree the pacing on this episode is much better, but MMC is still just above this episode for me as the impact of what was going on was bigger - being the mane six.
I'd have to say A Canterlot Wedding is still my favourite if I had to choose, but all three (counting that as one) are probably tied as my favourites.

I love this episode so much it might just be my favorite episode! I've watched it so many times and I still cry when they get their cutie marks and sing that song at the end. I always liked Diamond Tiara and hoped she'd get an episode like this! It was definitely worth waiting 5 seasons for this!

I did a reaction to this episode and it's my first time doing a reaction video of anything. Before this episode I mainly did unboxing videos and travel videos so I wanted to open up to more audiences but I didn't want to lose my older subscribers because of doing reaction videos. So I decided just to use this episode to test out to see what happens. I a few weeks before the season premiere aired I decided to do reaction videos on the show thanks to comments on this reaction video of mine. I even said in my videos that I still plan to continue to do unboxing videos and travel videos along with the reaction videos of MLP it's just a regular basis so I can keep my current subscribers entertained until I do my travel video being they take a while to plan.

I get what you’re saying; I had a similar opinion about Magical Mystery Cure. It would have worked better as a 2-parter, and even M.A. Larson said he would have preferred it that way.
With this episode though, I’m not so sure. I don’t know what else they could have done with the extra time. I had no trouble following what was going on, I understood Diamond’s mood swings as they happened, and I was tearing up by the end. In Magical Mystery Cure, I thought the songs were wasting time, even though I’d wanted a musical episode for a long time. Here, I felt like the songs were adding something magical. What a way to celebrate FiM’s 5th anniversary!
It may just be the effects of the emotional rollercoaster I’m still on, but I thought everything about this episode was perfect.

Here I would have liked to see the CMCs befriending DT a little more, having a little more conversation and DT to have more stuggling with changing her ways. Her change of heart still feels too fast, especially calling the CMCs her "friends" after spending 5 minutes with them in their clubhouse.

Pondering about this CMC episode being a two-parter rather than a single episode would’ve been good. That’s no longer likely now, but if that were the case, then perhaps the extra time would’ve helped build more on Silver Spoon forgiving DT or Twist (candy cane cutie mark) getting more screen time to take part in the CMC’s success.

THANK YOU! I thought i was the only one that felt that the redemption of Diamond Tiara felt a bit rushed in this episode. Don't get me wrong, I still loved this episode. In fact, it's still one of my favorites of the entire series. I just wish they could've made the redemption a bit less rushed. Personally, i think they should've done like a quick 2 minute song montage of Diamond and the CMC hanging out for a bit, before Pip showed up, and I think it would've been enough, but it's still a great one. Granted, it's not as great as "Rarity Investigates" (I'm a huge movie guru, so I loved the film noir homage) or "Canterlot Boutique" (surprising considering Rarity is my least favorite out of the mane 6), but I still love this episode a lot. Great commentary by the way.

So, if Diamond got the school to spend money on a stained glass window of herself before, where would the money for the statue have come from?
And now that Diamond DIDN'T win, there's no money in the budget for playground equipment while the statue has already been made.

I don't think her redemption was rushed. She constantly wanted to go back to her old ways, but in many moments, her face most of the time was saf and filled with regret
This episode is the best in the entire series, and will likely remain so until the series ends (Or at least until the 10 year anniversary, though the bar is high). It managed to do something that I both hoped to happen and thought would be impossible to do: Make Diamond Tiara likable.

funcoolfunfun well yes the song is good, not gonna say the best (I liked the ending song better), however there are PLENTY of flaws with the episode. It's fast pace character development doesn't settle well along with their being no antagonist at the school anymore with a dash of stereotypes doesn't settle with me. The resolution, while I think too early in the series, is the best part of this episode. However, opinions are opinions

At first I thought DT was really planning on trying to get her position back, especially with what she said before the song started. But when you think of it, how did she have a written statement already prepared for her father just like that? I think she was planning on giving the statement to her father, but she didn't want to admit it, she still wanted to put on the bully front because she still felt insecure. Or maybe she wanted to tell off her mother in front of everypony. Another explanation is that she really did at first want to take her position back, but seeing her mother for who she really is was the final push needed to finish what the CMC started when breaking through to her, and the letter being ready was just a result of the show being a cartoon.

I love and hate this Episode at the same time. It's a great plot but all the Songs made it shorter than it should be. But I really love that they finally get their cutie marks. there were actually plans for a cc spin off series, where they help others solve their problems. with this it could become possible

I loved MMC from the start but I still think this episode had much better pacing.
I always get kinda bored at the coronation in MMC but this episode I love it from start to finish and it didn't feel rushed to me, which I was actually quite surprised about.
Spending more time showing Diamond Tiara moping wouldn't have made it any more believable. Better to do it by song as it helps you suspend disbelief as its already talking to you on a different level, not just what you see.

It was just too fast. I mean she is like super mean and the CMCs arch nemesis for more than 4 seasons but gets redeemed within one episode?
I'd be all for a two parter for each redemption. It always feels too rushed for me if it takes only one.
But whatever, I can live with it.
BerlinBronyANdy I think the point is that while-ever Silver Spoon was following her lead, she felt unable to change, vindicated in her actions.
When it became apparent her behaviour actually drove SS away, she no longer had that motivation. With the CMC then showing they were willing to give her a chance, if she changed her attitude, she relented. She suddenly realised she didn't want to become her mother.
So while yes it did happen in a short while in the shows running time, if you look at it more objectively its not completely ridiculous.
I can't imagine them ever doing a two-parter musical, but it would be interesting if they did.
They struggle to get that right in Equestria Girls with the longer running time. The last one particularly, some of the songs seemed forced and unnecessary.
