A standard US cop (with a gun) has an average of 12 weeks training which includes everything. A standard UK cop (without a gun) has an average of 20 weeks training. Then if they wish to become a firearms officer they'll need to wait 2yrs before 5-20 weeks of firearms training, depending on the role.

Hi Connor, the mounted guys in the uniform you love are members of The Household Cavalry Regiment, the ceremonial Part of the Royal Armoured Corps, The Household Cavalry is a union of the two most senior regiments in the British Army; The Life Guards and The Blues & Royals. It is divided into the Household Cavalry Regiment and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
The Household Cavalry Regiment is the operational unit, providing an armoured reconnaissance capability with the state-of-the-art AJAX armoured fighting vehicle. Our soldiers are first are foremost armoured reconnaissance experts but also specialise in other battle winning capabilities, including snipers, anti-tanks, remotely piloted air systems, and information activity.
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment are the ceremonial face of the regiment, conducting mounted state and public duties in London. Their prestige and horsemanship takes them across the UK and the rest of the world on key international events, all whilst representing the Monarch and the Nation.

If you like the guards on the horses, you really need to check out more videos from Horseguards. The ones you saw are 'The Lifeguards' (red with white plume) riding up (or leaving) to replace the 'Blues and Royals' (blue with red plume), they change everyone 2-3 days. I prefer the Blues, but that is just my personal preference 😊
There are also some behind the scene videos of both regiments at Hyde Park Barracks.
The Gurkha's, I used to live in the town they were based many years ago (no longer) in Hampshire. I remember working in a shoe shop in my late teens and they'd come in to buy ladies shoes for their relatives. Lovely friendly guys. Our market square and library is in an area named Gurkha Square, including a restaurant by the same name. Our town saw them in very high regard.

These are police that work for the Ministry of Defence. They guard all Military Bases & similar high security places. These are mostly to be seen in central London, but also at sensitive sites around the country. They are not military, but civilian police that work for the military, because this is not a military controlled state, but a Civil state with military defence forces. The soldiers you see usually have no ammo in their guns, but they may have, & they can act to defend themselves if necessary, but it's the civil polices job really. This scene is at Buckingham Palace, with the Victoria monument in front. The mounted soldiers in red are the King's Life Guards. There is an identical Regiment, who wear dark blue uniforms, called the Blues & Royals. The foot soldiers in front of the Palace, with the band are the foot guard regiments, of which their are 5. the Changing is when one of these regiments takes over guarding the Palace from another. There is a display of the regimental Colours, the flags you see, embroidered with the names of battles the regiment has been in over the centuries, these are different for each regiment.
The retiring Guard, the old guard, march out of the Palace courtyard carrying their Colour, the new guard having taken over the duty of guarding it.
Yes it is the Gurkhas, for occasionally other military units, like these, take turns on guard duty. The group that left are going to St James Palace which also has a Royal Guard. Meanwhile the mounted Guard go to Horse Guards on Whitehall to Guard the official gateway to the Royal Estate, about half a mile from Buckingham Palace. The Palace Guard is about 50 men, who stay at the Palace for a few days, rotating the men on Guard duty, in usually 2 hour shifts. If the King is in the Palace there will be 4 guards visible at the sentry boxes in front, if he is elsewhere then usually onto 2 men are seen. Another group is doing the same at St James Palace. The Guards Regiments have barracks, for both footguards & cavalry, not far away by Hyde. They also have other premises outside London in the countryside, & when not on Ceremonial Guard duty they operate as full military units, operating armoured vehicles etc. This is done by rotating the men through the various roles in periods of deployments. So soldiers could be on Guard in London one week, in full ceremonial uniform, & the next week he may be somewhere in the wilds driving an armoured personnel vehicle, or until recently he could be in Afghanistan facing the Taliban.

He talks the whole time and he's the only one pretty much that does. Then there is Buska in the Park. If he sees someone disrespecting the Guards or the horses he doesn't keep his mouth shut. He goes over to the police to let them know when they need help. I've been watching them since Thanksgiving or before. The Guards can be identified in several ways...tunic buttons, tunic cuffs, bearskin plumes, collar insignia and tunic tails.
There is an order of seniority which I'll give you the correct order of precedence - but here, just by the tunic buttons and plumes.
Buttons: Single-spaced row are Grenadiers. Spaced in Pairs are Coldstrream. Spaced in threes are Scots. Spaced in fours are Irish. Spaced in fives are Welsh.
Grenadiers - white plume on the left. Coldstream -red plume on the right. Scots - no plunes. Irish - Azure plume on the right. Welsh: white and green plume on the left.
That should be enough to get you started, as you wouldn't know the others by name or by design!
I don't know what you mean by "badges," unless ytou mean their collar insignia, so there are none with none! if mean "Plume," a plume is not a badge!
The medals are awards - earned through their service in a theatre of war, rather than most American awards which have no merit, but tend to look good (apart from any awarded for some military action).

I think that the changing of the guard ceremony shown in this video is the change over from one division or regiment to another every 24 hours, but within that 24 hours the 2 guards on duty are only on guard for a few hours before being replaced by 2 others while the first 2 rest up for several hours. That’s why there are so many guards (not including the military bands) so that they have enough pairs of guards to rotate through 24 hours. That’s roughly it, although I’m sure someone else with more knowledge can fill in the details or correct my misunderstanding.
