This series is a 10/10 watch. Just a matter of time for this channel to blow up
its already started to blow up
Just binged this whole series. Seriously fantastic stuff, the Taco looks awesome! Keep it up Mike!
Hey thanks!
It's incredible the amount of abuse this truck has suffered, that paint is trashed. Can't wait to see how far you go with building it back up again.
I mean 1st owner got his monies worth. I did too with my Tacoma. Use it as a tool and squeeze every bit out of it.
@@craigman7262 i understand getting sratches from branches, but how the hell do you trash the underside of the handle bars?
@@craigman7262 did he though? He sold it for pennies vs properly caring for it and having it last him much longer or selling it for much more.
destroyed it!
at least it wasnt a street queen tho lol
@@MrDragomere he got $13k completely for trashed. Far from pennies on the dollar
it’s always a good day when you post, build has come such a long way already and i can’t wait to see what you’re gonna do next bro
Hell yeah man I'll give a thumbs up to anyone who puts a Taco back on the road. I just bought a new 2021 Trd Offroad and putting a icon lift with some methods and 34s. Killer job on your ride man she's a beauty!
Thanks, and enjoy the truck!
You're definitely putting in the work Mike, it looks great!!!
I'm still amazed how someone could trash a 2018 in that short amount of time. So glad you are bringing it back to life. 👏
5years
@@-Nick-T My dads 2003 tundra looks miles better then how this dude first got this car. 5 years is nothing.
again WOW!!! Beautiful Truck! Yes! I binged watched too! I really enjoyed your videos and subbed right away. Your videos are great! No frills just raw truth! Please continue to make more videos You're doing a great job!
Thank you 🙌🏻
I’m not sure why I like your channel, but it’s pretty good. Great problem solving, DIY, wrenching and commentary. Wish I was at KOH this year (was last year) so I’d buy you a beer. Keep it up!
rocking with the 3am uploads
Good for you in taking this on and doing the work yourself. The previous owner really beat up a new truck in a short period of time, simply amazing how destroyed it was. I'm in the Bay Area also, drive a TRD Off Road.
I can appreciate your hard work and dedication on this abused Tacoma. I'd of been scuffing the paint with 600 grit sandpaper and removing body trim parts getting ready for a complete re-spray at this point. Those branch scratches are no joke!
I know next to nothing about cars but can't stop watching this series
What a cool truck! Love it. I’d love to talk to the first owner and try and understand how he used it.
Idk how you can spend that kind of coin on a truck new, then trail bomb it to that extent. I got my taco 2 years ago, always wanted one, and the price of admission to that club is a solid deterrent from beating it. Haha
Currently in the middle of binge watching this series. I found your channel from the diy rear bumper video. You’re definitely inspiring me to get some stuff done on my tacoma that I’ve been putting off. Love the content!!
There is an active recall on the fuel pump. It mainly effects 2018 and 2019 Toyota Tacomas. I had mine replaced last March and prior to the replacement I had issues with my truck bogging out and not starting up because the fuel pump was going bad. I don't know if your fuel pump has been replaced under recall yet or if the fuel pump is the underlying issue for you.
Yup , already got the recall completed, along with the forward collision. Unfortunately not the problem
The noise made at 20:05 can’t be overlooked lol I felt that one just watching. That noise and the Next shot very much sum up my time in the garage usually 🎉 always fun watching you do your thing, bud
Get a wool pad and compound after wet sanding. Then go to a foam pad. It’ll make a huge difference.
Amazing work. The hardcore detailers will have all sorts of suggestions but for the condition of this thing you did an incredible job. And "lazy" is not a word I would use for you or this project! 😄
Thank you!
You’ve turn this truck from a filthy, non running shit box into a bad ass, respectable Tacoma. So glad I stumbled across your channel!
What I did for my moms highlander that was in almost similiar condition was just use a whole bottle of ceramic coat and it actually went inside the dents and hid all the defects. But you have to wipe off all residue or else you get stripe patterns. But it was so much easier than sanding and compound and polish that I just do a whole bottle of ceramic coat from now on cause I am lazy
I didn’t know ceramic did that
Nice work man! Incredible change in the paint.
I'm loving this series I just started my 05 Land Cruiser build. Can't wait to hit the trails soon!
Great job on making the truck look better! That's about as good as it can get without a repaint! Good work for sure.
The detail this guy puts into his work. This guy found his passion to rehab this truck. Great work. Keep it up. You'll get there.
looks way better! you should get a bottle of ceramic coating, stuff hides scratches pretty well! I'm glad your channel is growing!
Its looks like that truck was driven through brush every mile of it existence. Looks much better now. I like the direction you have taken the truck.
I’m just so impressed that a dude my age is so proficient in turning wrench and brining that Taco from the dead. I feel like whenever I do my own minor maintenance like oil change or spark plugs it takes hours and I’m cussing the whole time lol
We all start somewhere. I was the same not too long ago really
Loved the Tacoma project videos! It's come a long way
Thank you!
Great video mike
You've done a stupendous job on the Taco -- I still think it makes a fantastic impression on anyone who looks at the exterior, thinking "Jeez, what this truck's been through" and then looks at the way you've fixed up the "working parts": Terrific job! Sorry about KOH -- but the Taco will make it some other time. BTW, your 98 XJ is much like my '01, including the rock rash/trail damage -- but mechanically, everything works fine. Trail damage is just "beauty spots" and merit badges/campaign ribbons showing it earned its keep. Bravo Zulu!
They’re fun jeeps!
Looks good , still hard to imagine how someone could trash a truck in just a couple years , glad you saved it .
My guess would be using the truck for its trucking purposes.. too many people are buying trucks these days and never even touch dirt with it haha.. scared of some pinstripes and dents go buy a Honda Civic 👍🏻
@@ryanjohnson5315 yeah and some kitty litters too
Hey man, if anything. You can always wrap it. Wrapping is amazing!
Mike, as much as love your videos....imagine the videos of what the previous owner was and wasn't doing to make this truck this way! Keep the videos coming, much appreciated!!!
Must’ve been a lot of fun! Haha
Did an old boat like this once. Almost took a month to polish it out. this job is for a patient person
Absolutely
Check your filter around the filler neck. usually that get clogged causing it not to fill up.. can blow air from one of the charcoal canister line to the filler neck filter.
Looks like alot of dirt build up around the gas cap
Causing the charcoal canister not vent properly when filling up
Wow man you have been putting in work! So awesome to see!
Love it man a perfect change from wat it came from
Your videos bring me joy
You bring me joy G
I smoke every time I watch your channel but you always seem to appear more clapped, Kudos. and the truck looks great!
i have detailed enough cars to know that that detail attempt was straight heroic. insane !
So. much. work.
nice job mike ! taco looks incredible what a buiLd maN !!! mas cerveza...
best decision on the XJ, sick offroader man.
Can't wait for you trip to HAMMERS viD bro.
enjoY!
Hoping for that O2 sensor. Fingers crossed. Truck is still a steal. Don't sweat it.
just discovered this channel yesterday! And I BINGED THE WHOLE SERIES, great channel man, beautiful tacoma! greetings from Costa Rica
Thank you!
Pulled a full watch of the taco series. Man that thing was a basket case and it broke my heart to see it so trashed. Great job on getting it back.
Thank you!
Wow Mike, it like a completely different Truck now. It has come a long way.
This is literally my favorite series on RUclips rn. Great job man. Please don’t stop making videos! Cheers 🍻
Thank you!! 🍻
Looks much better, I would definitely replace the driver side rear door and new bumper caps. Would just live with the scratches, that way don't have to worry about getting anymore.
The exterior is trashed...replacing that door would be pointless
Defintely inspired to polish my 01 Cherokee this Spring/Summer (I’m in Chicago). Great job man. FYI, Pacifico is the best beer lol 🤙🏼
Hey that is one clean looking jeep! Thanks for sharing!
Love your videos man, keep up the videos they’re super enjoyable.
Great vid. Sorry about the set back! I will be here watching for sure when you take her out! Keep it up!
Way way better! Great job bro. It’s really coming along great. Keep it up.
I'd use a spray on clear coat for the newly painted fenders to help the bed liner stay intact. It worked for my grille.
Great work! It has been fun to watch!
Good job enjoying the progress
Dude that’s awesome! It looks amazing
And you are by no means lazy. You are excellent.
Just came across your build - you did an amazing job! Nice work man!
Thank you Ted!
🤙🏾much respect man ! Trucks looking nice
Loving this series. You should definitely try a 4th gen 4runner if you ever get the chance too.
This build has me so interested plus you actually made me crack open a beer for a RUclips video for the first time so ima stick around 😂
Yeeeee yeeee brother, enjoy the trip 🤟🏽 Can’t wait for the new Taco vid
I just bought a Tacoma, this series has got me vying to start upgrading asap
great videos man! i just binged each episode for the Tacoma haha!
i know you do most of your own work, but i wanted to give a shout out to Bonanno Auto off Piner Rd in Santa Rosa. I used to live in RoPo/SR and would take my toyotas there for the jobs i didnt want to or couldnt do. Good peeps and he used to be a toyota master tech. i'm living in SF now and I still make the trip there sometimes to have work done its worth the drive. just wanted to give them a shout out in case you dont know them... keep up the good work man enjoying your project
Love the truck man did a good job on the waxing Taco as Mr. me Augie to say wax on wax off
Love this series. I see that Hightower as well.
Love that bike.
Videos are super entertaining keep um coming
Seeing hoe far you have come on this project is truly inspiring! It makes me want to quit being a teacher and work in auto mechanics or get into welding. Keep doing you bro!
I think turtle wax makes a black wax to help cover white scratches in black paint. I've never tried it but it might work
Awesome effort and work man
Dude are you kidding me? It looks amazing after the sand and polish! Keep it up Man! Loving the truck!
Just a tip for next time, but use a sanding block. Just your fingers is going to leave grooves when you sand and will never be as even as when you use a block.
I strongly recommend Klasse high gloss sealant, big dollar look for little cost.
Matte black fenders look great.
Gawd, so good. Thank you! G’night
Great job with everything you've done to bring this truck back!!!!
Love to see it man you got a great work ethic and the truck looks awesome
Thank you!!
Inspired me to work on my old 2014 GMC Sierra 1500
This truck has come a long way is an understatement. Nice work.
It's good consistent stuff man. The vibes are just good
You’ve already brought the truck so far along from where it was! I genuinely can’t wait to see what the end result is!
Bro the series on this truck has been a ride. What a turnaround in a short amount of time. If you ever end up in NC, the beers are on me.
I might take you up on that!
I've enjoyed this series so much. If you don't ride the Santa Cruz MTB that was in the garage you could sell it for a small fortune nowadays! Lol
They’re going up 📈
The evap is the cause of your check engine light also. Had the same issue. When you fill the tank on the truck NEVER overfill the tank. Once it clicks off go one more click and stop. Once I started doing this problem stopped. You may have to replace the canister but just may need drained.
The EVAP system is causing a Catalytic converter code? Doesn’t sound right to me.
@@mikes4x4garage, I can't remember did you do anything with the MAF sensor? Clean or replace it? Those are the only 2 things I did and haven't had the problem since? Could be a dirty MAF also?. I forgot I did that also. It's been too long ago now. I do remember mine was only reading a lean condition on 1 bank, not both. I didn't understand why it wasn't both.
@@trentherring5640 it’s a cat efficiency code. Not before the cat. The truck is running correctly but the Cat isn’t doing its job.
@@mikes4x4garage my truck is a 1st gen. The code I was getting was a P0171. Lean bank 1. I tried cleaning the MAF with the correct MAF cleaner and it didn't work. I ended up getting a Denso MAF from Rock Auto. I never charged an O2 sensor which is what I thought I was going to have to do. I would try the online Tacoma forums. It very well could be O2 sensor? I'm sure your not the only one with this issue.
This channel now is one of my faves. Phenomenal job!!!
brooo i had the exact same problem with gas not filling up on my 1st gen taco. The problem for me was that i capped a vacuum line on the engine bay. EVERONE LIKE THIS SO HE SEES
I’m here for the Taco build!
Talk about a rescue 😱
My raptor had a 430 code and continued to drive it for another 2 years with the code on. I did end up replacing the cat which got rid of the code. Jus5 keep driving it.
Well done Mike! Amazing what hard work and dedication can do. Also, what you were able to accomplish in a small home garage. Really enjoy this series, keep up the good work.
Thank you!
great video series brother, loving this content.
sending good vibes from socal, keep it up.
Hell yea man! I’m sure u will get the taco going soon
Those fenders look SO much better, dude! Makin due with what ya got!
For sure!
This has became my favorite channel of lately! Keep doing you and being original
I will!
Recommendation: either plasti-dip or buy the oem black badges!? Looking good, man!
Bummer about the Taco, always another year tho! Love that Cherokee!
Thank you!
At the first video I was really wondering what the effort would look like. Thanks for documenting this! Awesome job Mike!
And careful with the back, squat it up ;)
Cheers!
Wow!! The truck looks amazing. You’ll take her next year to Hammers. Have fun with the Jeep😊😊
That paint came a long way buddy it looks good and I’m kinda depressed that you won’t be taking it I followed the whole process good job on all the work y’all did I got a black four door and I love it
