The beer thing was interesting: Emily could have immediately jumped on that, but she knew what Lorelai was doing. I bet Lorelai also knew Emily's reaction was to roll her eyes, so she was just trying to help Dean out, even if he did get panicked.
As much as Lorelai liked to protest how much she was like Emily; that beer joke and amused EMily calling her cruel showed how much alike they actually were. Emily doesn't like Lorelai's sense of humour much but she enjoyed that.
I can’t help but think of how it could’ve been different if Lorelai had told Emily beforehand that Rory was bringing Dean. Maybe they still would’ve been rude, but at least they would’ve been prepared. Bringing a “boyfriend” is not the same as bringing a “friend”. Lorelai should’ve anticipated that. Could it have helped a little? I don’t know. Maybe.😆
Classic psychological reaction -- this is where the father figure realizes he is being replaced and his girl is not a little girl anymore. Glad Richard got over it.
So, Dean is so willing to make himself the butt of the joke just for social stability, this does not pay off both in this scene immediately when Richard enters the Room and overall, no matter how many times Dean Prostrated himself, (arguably even when Richard Checked/Audited his car, they don't share genes either) he never learns that they don't want a good deal, just a better deal, whatever it is, they bargain some more And I hate him for it Title: This is why Dean is the Donna Reed of Men
Lane likes everything, and remember that Richard also like jazz, blues, and 50/60s pop music, so they would have had a great deal to talk about. Lane was to music was Rory was to books.
@@lauriecarson6483 Check the Comment thread, I said wishful thinking smh🤦♂, And recognizing Richards love for music and knowing Lane, They would get along I'm sure. Its all good, I understand you didn't run through a comment thread of only 3 replies.
@@Roger88faction I read what you wrote okay. But if Rory wanted Lane to go then she would have invited her. Nothing wrong with Rory invited Dean she did not know Richard would do that.

lol. I remember watching this episode in the early 2000s and feeling so much second hand embarrassment for him.
@@adeel-eh7xq so awkwarddd
I think it's a little unfair to blame Lorelai for her parents actions
@@katringo5376 no for sure! But she might know how they would react..like did she really think they would roll out the red carpet for Dean?
I completely agree especially since their relationship was strained. Lane would have been a better choice
Dean looked sooo fine in this episode.
Man Richard and Emily are so disrespectful when it comes to meeting new people
Only people they think are "below them".
Emily’s purple shirt makes her look like Hilary Clinton or at least her sister.

She should've brought Lane, Richard and Lane prolly could've talk music all night, Does lane like classical actually?

@@epbrown01 Would've been a awesome scene or just mini moment ...but hey wishful thinking is all 😄
Well Rory wanted Dean to go cause she wanted her grandparents to net him. She don't have to bring Lane with her all the time.

Do they already know Dean?
Yes, Emily's sour expression is due to the *first* time she met Dean, picking up Rory for the dance at Chilton.
Emily does Richard dont
Just Emily and she already doesn't like him. Richard only knew about him from Emily.
aww love dean go dean frienday nigght
